Dining Plan and salads??

Our first time on the dining plan and was wondering if I can get a Salad for my "appetizer". A little confused on what we can order for each TS meal. I don't generally want an appetizer or soup before my dinner but I love a salad. Can anyone tell me if I can order that instead?
