I booked a room at the BWV & park hopper tickets and then decided that I wanted to add on the dining plan after I read about it on this board. I booked by calling Disney directly and got a AAA discount on the room. I also ordered my park passes at the same time. A few days later I called back to add on the dining plan. The CM told me I couldn't add the dining plan because I wasn't on a package. I asked what a package was & she told me it was a room & tix purchaed together. I told her I had reserved both at the same time. She said the CM had put them in the system separately so they were not considered a package. She said the only way to make it a package was to cancel my original reservation & rebook. When she tried to do that she told me that there were no rooms available with the AAA discount so I would have to pay rack rates to get the meal plan. Naturally, I declined that offer. Does this make sense?? Did I do something wrong initially or is this just soem strange Disney rule?? We leave in 2 days, is there anything I can do now? :confused3 I know I'm probably missing something but it just doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks!

I'm sorry to say, that's the way it is. You can't add the dining plan unless you book a Magic Your Way package. Unfortunately, to get the package you have to pay rack rate for the rooms.

For some reason that doesnt sound right. We booked through AAA and I know we got the discount on the room even though we purchased the magic your way package with dining. We did not pay rack rate for our rooms. I am almost positive of this as I got the quotes from CRO and AAA and AAA's prices came out with tickets and dining costs the same as CRO (as expected) but room costs were with discounts.

I can clarify this one.

We are going in 9 days and will be at Disney World 1/27 - 2/04. We booked room amd tickets separate and not a package. We got the AAA discount for the room which is a very nice discount. We decided against the dining plan. I just don't think it is that great a deal particularily with our eating habits. I later asked about the dining plan and was told only with a magic your way package and the quoted rates were higher. My travel agent was very honest and told me I could book a magic your way package with AAA discount, however, it could only be booked with a AAA travel agent. There is a contractual agreement which only permits AAA travel to sell PACKAGES with a AAA discount, however, anyone can book room only with AAA discount.

In summary, room only with separate tickets anyone can book and AAA rate is available. A magic your way package with AAA discount can only be booked by AAA travel agent.

In the end it all comes out about the same. The discount with AAA room only rate is very nice and there are advantages to not having the dining plan.

I hope this is useful and enjoy your trip.

We are travelling tomorrow with a Magic Your Way plan w/dining that we booked through AAA. What I learned through this process was:
1. If you want the dining plan, you must book a package.
2. If you want a AAA rate, you must book through AAA.
3. If you book a package through AAA, you get the AAA discount on the room, but there are no discounts on the tickets or dining plan.
4. If you book a package, you must pay the entire amount 45 days in advance. If booking a room only, you pay one night's stay in advance and can pay the balance at check in.

So, if you want the dining plan, call AAA and book a package. Otherwise, contact AAA or Disney for the room only AAA rate.

Boogeyhead has it right. I originally booked a room only through Disney with a AAA rate. I later called to change to a package that included DDP they told me that I could not use AAA for that unless I booked through AAA. The next day I went to AAA and the TA did it all for me :flower: I can't wait till June :cool1:

It doesn't make sense but that is the way it is. It is similar to airlines, same flight some seats are cheap, some expensive. When the cjeap seats are gone they are gone, well when the AAA rooms are gone they are gone. This happened to my friend, but she checked back daily and sure enough eventually she was able to change things over to AAA package. Someone must have canceled or they added more rooms to the package. Don't give up, have a great trip

My 6th trip but first time as a mom with the kids, it is like the first time all over again!

Thanks for the help! I think I now understand it. I think its too late to try to change anythng now, but I'll know for next time....although knowing Disney, they'll probably change it again by then! The dining plan would have been nice to have, but we're so excited anyways, I'm sure it won't really matter once we get there.

Two more days!! :cool1:
