Dining Help: Single Mom w/ Kiddos

Hello Hello!

I was wondering if you all could offer any advice on my last dinner reservation. I am taking my 2 kiddos (4/7) and my nephew (12) - to Disney in March and we are doing the dining plan. I am a little nervous about taking on the buffets since it is just me! Seems like a lot of plates for me to fill, which sounds like a lot of work at the end of busy park day.

I am contemplating a reservation at Boma one night so we can see AKL, but I want to keep "stressed out mommy" locked away! Also booking 1900 Park Fare breakfast our last day before we fly out, which is a buffet.

I have already decided on reservations at Ohana, Coral Reef, Whispering Canyon, Sci Fi, and Spoodles.

Should I stick with Boma, or go another route? I really want a non-burger dinner that night after being at MK during the day.

I think you will totally be fine at Boma. You will need to sheperd your 4 yr old, but the other two are old enough to manage their plates (I would think). The 12 yr old should certainly be able to help the 6 yr old with getting food from the tables.

I would book Boma and then near the end of your trip, if you feel it is a big mistake, just cancel and go to someplace like ESPN that doesn't require an ADR but is on the dining plan.

I think you'll be fine.

I was babysitting by the age of 12, so I think if you request assistance for your 12 yr old nephew in advance ... could he help you out with the 7 yr old and the buffet? ... I think you'll do fine.

I traveled to The World January 2008 for 13 days and will be there in 6 MORE DAYS!!! for 14 days with just me and my two kids. Skye was 3 and is 4 now and Tyler had just turned 9 and is almost 10 now. We were on the Deluxe DDP and we did a lot of buffets. I would take Skye with me to the buffet but she would hold her own plate (usually) and a lot of the time even fill it herself (the kid's sections have a lower counter for them to be able to reach on their own) and she liked being able to do it herself. Tyler was able to fend for himself.

I guess it depends on your kids. If they are not shy and like to do it themselves then I think you'll be just fine. If not, then just take your time. No one will rush you.

I would keep Boma. I'm a single mom too, so I know how difficult buffets can be with little ones, but I think that you can go through the buffet either alone or with your 4-year-old and get your plate and 4yo's plate at once - then send your nephew and 7-year-old through the buffet together, the 12yo should be able to help the 7yo if needed.

Have the 12 yr old sit at the table with the young kiddos while you make two plates. One for you and one for the two smaller to share. Grab extra plate underneath and just split out the kids meals at the table. A 12 yr old should be able to navigate the buffet alone. I think you will be fine.

We took a 3 and 10 year old once and buffets were so hard for DH and I to manage.

We are going back and they girls will be 6 and 12 but we are still doing TS places that they will enjoy like Ohana breakfast, Princess Breakfast, Coral Reef etc.

I would take the kids up to the buffet, hold the 4yo's plate while also helping the 7yo get food. Nephew will be able to get his own. Walk them back to the table, ask nephew to watch kids while you go back and get your plate.

I agree with this post, but I think the 12 yr old could prob assist the 7 yr old, since there wont be a lot needed.

Now if we were talking 3 toddlers, I would say RUN, and fast from the buffets, lol.

Have you considered any of the all care you eat to meals that are served family style such as Ohana. It may be more relaxing for you! There is no law saying you have to eat at AKL to visit the hotel. Maybe just visit AKL after a meal in DTD.
