dining for kids-with no buffets

Trying to gear our dining plans without doing buffets, making this trip more for my niece.

So far my dining plans I hope to get

1.Liberty Tree Tavern
2.Sci-Fi Dine in thearter
3.Hoop-De-Doo Musical
4.Rose and Crown
5.Le Cellier (Since she liked it last time try for lunch this time)
6.Plaza

I need one more!

MY DS9 tells me that he loves Yak & Yeti. He also really liked Coral Reef. You already have his 2 must do's on your list- Sci Fi and Hoop De Doo. He adamantly votes against 50s Prime Time. Hope this helps!

How about Akershus? It's a "princess" character meal, but not a buffet. I guess there *is* an appetizer buffet of sorts, but you do order off of the menu. My dd was 13 when we were there last and she *loved* it. It's on her "must do" list for next trip when she'll be 15.

I, and my kids, really liked the kids' menu at Sanaa.

Also, if you niece is a Princess fan, the Akershus breakfast is a great start to the day, and is dearly loved by my Princess-happy girls.

You didn't say where, but my girls loved Akershus and Coral Reef. Sanaa was also a big hit with my kids. They loved watching the animals from the viewing deck and we are going back in March. What about Ohana dinner? We haven't done it yet, but we're doing it in March. It's supposed to be loads of fun for the kids.

My daughters, 6 and 2 on our last trip, loved Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. One is very adventurous with eating (the two-year-old) and the other is not. Their parents loved it too!

Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL is also a kid favorite. Waiters are very interactive with guests and kids can participate in various activities. There are many posts about WCC and the inside jokes, such as asking for ketchup.

Garden Grill in EPCOT!!!

It's our boys' favorite restaurant and our arrival night tradition. We really enjoy the food (we think it's been even better lately) and the character interaction is some of the best at WDW. Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale visit each table at least twice each, and it's a relatively relaxed atmosphere for a character meal. They serve the food family style, so it's not a buffet - one of the reasons we enjoy it so much. They do serve a nice variety of both kids' and adults' items, and always have a fun dessert for kids.

If you decide to go, I'd suggest asking for a booth on the lower level.

You'll eventually get the entire list of WDW dining posted here! Everyone has their favorates.

We recently returned from a week. DD12 said Kona was her favorate. She had steak which was one of the best but it was the dessert selection she loved the most.

She also loved watching the 9pm Wishes from the Polynesians beach after dinner then taking the boat to MK to watch the 10pm Electric Parade. Just a great evening.

Liberty Tree Tavern doesn't have anything to hold a kid's attention. We ate there on our last trip (DH & I) and thought the food was good. But there really isn't any entertainment, etc.

Whispering Canyon was fun, The food was good and there was lots of antics and hijinks from the wait staff. We really enjoyed it and I'm sure it would be even for kids. They have stick horse races for kids.

Ohana is fun for kids too. It's all you can eat but it's not a buffet. There is coconut races and hula dancing for the kids.

Great non-buffet options for kids (my kids liked them, ages 3 and 5...and were very welcome to dine by everyone!):

5. San Angel Inn

7. Akershus (princess meal)
8. CRT

The above restaurants were also enjoyed by the adults very much!

Boma is a buffet though and gigantix!!! I would say stick with AKL/Kidani though and do Sanaa and see some animals Lunch is supposed to be the most animals but if you do dinner than you could hop over to the pool area and try out the night vision goggles.
