Dining Credits....

We are a family of 5. DS 12, DD9, DS5, DH and I are going to be at POR in October. We've never been before so I'm really trying to get the most bang for my buck. Anyway, we will be there 5 nights and are on the DDP. Because it's our first trip I want to really get into the disney magic and do several character meals. I think right now I have 3 booked along with Ohana for dinner so I know for SURE that we will use our DDP TS credits for those buffet meals. BUT, the other table service meals I know that DS12 and I will NOT eat that much. Should we just order separate on those times and pay cash for them so that we can possibly have another nice TS meal along the way? And, do they keep up with who uses the credits? Like, DH is the biggest eater so could I let him use the TS credits and do 7 TS meals and just pay OOP for all the "small" stuff. Sci-Fi is one that I just didn't see anything other than a 9.99 app that I really wanted, but I thought, why waste a TS credit on that when we could add an extra ADR and DH could use the credit for a steak or something. Am I making any sense?? Thanks!!!!

They do not keep track of who uses the meals. Your plan has 3 adults and 2 children, so for 5 nights you will have a total of 15 adult meals and 10 kid meals for TS and 15 adult meals and 15 kid meals for QS (assuming you're on the 1 TS, 1QS per day plan). All they keep track of is how many meals you use. It's up to you to keep track of who uses what. So if you want to, your husband could use 7 out of the 15 TS meals. Keep in mind, however, that some character meals are two dining credits per person. They should be able to tell you if they are when you make the ADR. Good luck and have fun!

It will really depend on which type of dining plan you have.

If you are on the normal dining plan, you'll get 1 Table Service Credit Per Person Per Day, these will be split into adult meals and kids meals. So in your case you'll have adult meals for all of you except the 9 year old and 5 year old who will have kid meals.

You will also get 1 Counter/Quick Service meal per person per day but unlike the table service meals, there is no distinction on the card between adult and kids meals (or at least that was the case last August). The official line is that you have to order from the kids menu for a child, but we never do because my daughter and I always split an adult meal.

With your table service meals, there is nothing stopping you splitting your bill, paying out of pocket for smaller items, but you will need to let the server know right at the start that you wish to do that so they can split the bill and deduct the right amount of credits from your card.

Yes, you can pay for some items and save the TS credits for different/nicer restaurant. Just tell the server who is using credits and who you will be paying oop for. And, remember to check your receipt to make sure it was done that way, so you don't get a bad surprise later.
