I just wanted to share this because I thought it was funny. I called WDW dining to change one of my ADR's for our Oct. trip and the CM that I talked to said "what is an ADR?" I had to explain that it was an advanced dining reservation.

I just thought it was funny that the persion taking ADR's didn't know what an ADR was :confused3 :rotfl:

I had the same thing happen when I made my ressies the CM didn't know what a AP was. I asked about the AP discount, sorry I ment annual pass. I just assumed that they would know the lingo.

I assumed that it was just "board speak" and not really something that would be recognized elsewhere. You know, just so we don't have to bother typing out Cinderella's Royal Table or Donald's Breakfastasauraus (that last one might have gotten away from me a little there at the end :rotfl2: ).

Why would you expect a Disney Cast Member to recognize your acronym for something?

In the first place, Disney only used the term "Advanced Dining Reservation" for a very brief period of time. Now they just use "Reservations" or "Dining Reservations" so the abbreviation ADR would most likely elicit a "huh?" from most Cast Members.

Secondly, do you really think that the Cast Members who book dining care enough about the Disney-Obsessed poplulation that frequents these boards to take the time to learn all the different acronyms and abbreviations? As much as people would like to believe that these boards are the pinnacle of Disney information, the reality is that only a very small percentage of WDW guests frequent these boards with any regularity. Plus, when you get out of work, do you spend your free time surfing the internet about your employer?

Finally, Disney has plenty of its own acronyms and abbreviations to keep up with, and as anyone who as worked in a call center will tell you, when you are talking to customers (guests in the case of WDW) you NEVER EVER use the internal acronyms or abbreviations. Instead you use the correct names, such as "Cinderella's Royal Table" and not "Cindys" or "Disney's Polynesian Resort" and not "The Poly."

I've always just asked to make a reservation and they have never had a problem with that. :confused3

Yeah, and that'll teach you, OP, to be amused by something! Seriously, why the lecture? :goodvibes

They don't call them advanced dining reservations - just reservations. And they definitely don't use acronyms that we made up =)

Didn't mean to lecture, it just seems awfully unfair for DIS board folks to expect Cast Members to know all the DIS boards jargon and such. Plus I interpreted the OP's comments as more mocking than simple amusement (sometimes those "smilies" give the wrong impression) which may be my bad.

Having worked in various call centers in my life though, I was trying to give some perspective to the OP and others here who forget that Cast Members have lives outside of their jobs and even if they love Disney, it is not reasonable to expect them to keep up with all the jargon used here at the DIS.

I can see it now, a new CM orientation class - DIS Lingo 101, with weekly updates via the CM computer system.:rotfl:

Yeah, I get that the CMs don't know the internet lingo, but I thought the OP was just amused. I worked at a student loan call center, and it'd always make the callers laugh when I didn't recognize the abbreviation for tiny college they were attending and would guess wrong- but I think they were just laughing at the situation, just the fact that we'd managed to miss each other, languistically or whatever.

Also, while I know they're the exception, I've been surprised by the multiple CMs I've had mention the DIS specifically while I've been on the phone with them.

I didn't mean to start anything..I am sorry...I did not realize that ADR was just a "Dis board" acronym. I thought that is what disney called thier reservations....They used to call them "priority seating" (PS)....I thought that Disney changed them from PS to ADR

I am sorry for the confusion :confused3

No worries! Don't feel badly.

The Disboards have made up lots of terms and acronyms for WDW related items. CMs almost always will use the proper term for things in order to remain professional and to also ensure both parties know what they are talking about =) Other Disney boards may have completely different terms for things so they have to make sure they know what we're talking about.

They changed to advanced dining reservations for a very short time, yes. They were previously called priority seatings. For whatever reason, months ago they instructed CMs to just call them "reservations" but people on this board still call them ADRs or PS. We don't deal with change well :teeth:

That's ok. I have often referred to my husband as "DH" while talking to friends. They just look at me funny like, "What are you talking about??" :rotfl2: Why don't they understand DIS (message board) speak????

Maggie

I really feel for the CMs. With the advanced information we get from devoting our free time to the DIS, we put them at such a disadvantage, they have practically no chance of providing us superior service.
