How much do you generally budget for an adult for one day for food. We plan on eating breakfast in our room every morning. I am trying to figure out how much money to set aside for food each day. We will be eating lunch in the parks every day, and we plan on eating dinner at Planet Hollywood one night. Possibly making Fantasmic dinner ressis. Which MGM restaurant is best?

Are the resort mugs worth the money? I've heard the mugs were small.

Thanks again for the tips!

My fiancee and I are going to WDW in September, we plan to eat breakfast in the room, lunch from counter service, and a sit down dinner. Our plan is currently $50 per person per day. On the days we eat at buffets or family style (LTT) this will be less. One the days we eat at nice restaurants (AP) this will be more. We've budgeted an extra $150 into the overall food budget for our night at V&A's. We don't drink alcohol that much at all. So we don't figure that into our food costs. Hope that helps. To Southernswthrt,
I know it is all a matter of choice, but unless you are just a BIG Planet Hollywood fan,I wouldn't eat there at all.We ate there 3 years ago and didn't like it at all.The waiting area is right at the front door, with hardly no seating(45 min or more wait time),smokers allowed to stand and pass by right there, with their NASTY smoke.Too much confusion in the atmosphere, too noisy, too unorganized, etc.Food took way too long to arrive, waiter barely returned, once. The only thing I can say good about the place,is that the food itself was good, only.I suggest to try the RainForest Cafe, over in Marketplace. It is much better overall than PH.(You may read other people's bad reviews about Rain Forest, but we have never had a bad meal or experience there. We have eaten there about 5 times. My suggestion for the best Disney/MGM restaurant is Prime Time Cafe.It is decorated as it was in the 50's,with waiters and waitresses playing the parts as the customers big brother and sister, and mom is the cook. The theme is good and well enjoyed. As far as the resort mugs go,I feel that they are a rip-off.Unless the price has changed(probably higher),they are $8.00 a piece. Now think about it.If you are going to be spending a lot of time at the parks, getting back to your room late,as well as not drinking enough water throughout the day,why waste $8.00 a piece on those mugs?Drink water with all meals and save a lot more money than you may think. That is the only way we do it.Plus you cannot refill the mugs at any parks, only at your resort.Unless you are rich,I wouldn't waste my time or money on any fantasmic dinner reservation or on any reservation for any dinner show for that matter.I mean,we checked about the Polynesian Village Luau,$40-50 per adult.NOT!Might I make one more suggestion for your eating?Try the Intermission Food Court at the AllStar Music Resort. The food is very good and prices extremely reasonable, even for Disney. We stay there and eat there for our dinner meals.Anyway, that's my opinion and suggestions.Hope they help, any more questions, post a reply and I'll do the same.Have a great trip.
We'll be there Oct 2-11.

My fiancee' and I just went to WDW over the 4th of July week. We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter resort and purchased resort mugs. The mugs are $10 each and well worth the $$:D Acually the mugs aren't small at all, they hold a can of soda which is 12 oz. Considering that drinks in the food court are roughly $2.50 each, the mug really saves you money! We used them twice a day and we were there for 5 days. Without mugs that would have been $25 per person, and the mugs are only $10 with free refills. For one person that's a $15 savings!

I have no experience with the mugs but they sound like a good deal to me IF you are going to be getting drinks at the food court. At $10 each, they pay for themselves in 5-6 fill ups and you get the mug as a suvenior.

PS
As far as which restaurant for Fantasmic!, with no hesitation I would chose Hollywood Brown Derby once again...OUTSTANDING SERVICE, WONDERFUL ATMOSPHERE, AND GREAT FOOD!!!
