We are taking our DD this December, she is a gastric bypass patient, and while she'll be completely healed, and adjusted to her new way of life, we've been told by her surgeon that he will issue her a card, showing that she is a bypass patient and asking that she be allowed to dine from children's menus. Has anyone ever gone to WDW and dealt with this? We weren't sure if WDW would honor this card, and if not, well, if she eats a little and gets full, and we have to pay full price, so be it, it's worth every penny for the life changing/saving sacrifice she is making to become healthy.

Thanks!

It's only really relevant at the buffets and all you can eat places. Anywhere else she'd likely be permitted to order a child's meal.

She will be charged as an adult at all buffest/all you can eat places regardless of the card. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But any place else she can order off the kids menu but it will be very limited choices to what is available. Think mac and cheese, burgers, chicken fingers at some places.

I agree with PP.Any restaurant that is a buffet or family style will still charge ADULT pricing.

And I thank you too. I'm getting ready to have gastric banding done in December/January and was wondering about all that.

I know this is a "restaurant" board and I may get booted to the family board, but I wanted to tell you that I hope all goes well with your surgery!!

Take care:goodvibes

Hello there..I am a gastric bypass patient. 3 years out WOOHOO! Disney is really great about the Kid's Menu thing....I do pay full price at the buffett. However, if you are going to a buffett make sure you tell them that she needs a low sugar or no sugar dessert and they can make that happen too..It is very tempting to be there and see it and think you can have just a nibble, but I know how easy and quickly you can get sick from sugar. Make sure she takes water. I buy a case from Sam's before I go and freeze in my home freezer. We take it with me and it lasts the whole week in a cooler. I take a couple in each day so I can stay hydrated and it doesn't cost a fortune.

Have a blast!

Just a thought about the kids' menu. It may not be the best choice for her as far as carbs go. Like a PP said, lots of macaroni, fries, and bread or breading. What I tried to do last year was check out the appetizers and order one or two of them. Generally, you can get a better selection of high protein, low carb choices and still waste less than ordering a meal. That also assumes you are not on the dining plan. Also, I've heard that some buffet restaurants will allow you to pay the child's price with that card. It's up to the manager there, but doesn't hurt to ask (as long as no one is embarrassed by that). Good luck and have a great time!

Kathy
