Ding Question regarding one-way booking - Possible Hidden Dings! See 2nd post update

There's a Ding special I'd like to book, but I can't get it to come up one-way the way I need. I have both Houston & Ontario airports on my registration, and both come up. I can select Houston to Ontario round-trip and the return flight from Ontario to Houston comes up on the date I need at a good Ding rate. But, I only need it one-way from Ontario to Houston for the return flight. When I go to the list of Ontario Dings, it doesn't include Houston, so I can't figure out how to book one-way from Ontario to Houston.

Any ideas how to get this to work?

I found the solution in a post on FlyerTalk, and I'll include it here in case it might help someone:

Select a Ding offer and move forward with either a round trip or one-way booking. Then, back out by clicking "PLAN TRIP" and book the one-way in reverse, or even take advantage of offers not in your ten-city list.

Using this method, I was able to book my one-way flight from Ontario to Houston even though Houston didn't show up when I looked under Dings for Ontario. And the trip to Ontario is for Disneyland, so it should be considered on topic on this forum. :)

This makes me wonder if I've missed some Ding opportunities since they apparently don't list all the city-pair combinations that are available! For example, if I only had Ontario listed as one of my cities, I wouldn't have known that Houston to/from Ontario was included, and wouldn't have tried to book it. This seems to open up possibilites of "hidden" Dings! This is crazy - now I feel like I have to try the method above for every Ding offer and see if one of the cities I need is "hidden".

Does this make sense to anyone? Has anyone else seen this happen? I'm going to try to change the subject of my original post to include "hidden Ding offers" and see if that gets anyone's attention. :teeth:

I just tried to walk my self through this and I don't see the "plan trip" button to get it one way hidden rates.. where is it? Just want to be prepared for if this happens for my locations.
Thanks!

Never mind I just found it... that's what I get trying to look for something when my 4 year old is talking to me lol

Cool way to look at Dings!

I also read this today on flyer talk and I am totally lost. Why would a ding fare not "show up" when booking a round trip? :confused3

I have noticed that too, but there have been times that it only shows it as one way then you hit roundtrip and it shows it both ways, but the issue is when you want to book it as one way there and one way back so going this round about way helps with the booking process!

Now I get it!! :thumbsup2

Great! It's one of those things that's difficult to understand unless you're going through the steps yourself.

I've gotten so much useful info from the DIS that I try to share info myself that might help someone else.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that. That is something to know for all future planning.
