Dim Sum anyone??

Oh my gosh, those photos are making me so hungry! I've only been to dim sum a couple of times, once with a Chinese friend, and once with a group of coworkers, one of whom loves dim sum. Most of the dishes are made with ingredients that a typical American palate would find pleasing, but there are the unusual items. I think you'll find lots to try. I agree you should try the char siu bao, it's very good. Although I've always seen it called hum bao? Not sure if there's a difference, but it sounds like the same thing. Yummy regardless. :thumbsup2

Just remember to ask what it is before you tell the server you want what they are bringing by.

The first time I had Dim Sum I was SO hungry on the way there - I thought I was about to starve to death. So the first thing they bring by - I say yes I'll take that. My friends said "You should ask what it is" so I did. When they said chicken feet I made them take it back.

So I'm still very, very hungry and anxiously awaiting the next thing. Well it was something with a little tiny egg on the top of it - I guess some kind of little bird egg. One of my friends says "Oh that looks like an abortion". Well at that point I lost it and could not eat one thing the rest of the meal.

But I have learned to like Dim Sum - but to be careful what you say yes to.

Those sesame balls are DELICIOUS! My husband makes fun of me b/c I eat so many of them when we go for Dim Sum...remember most items are steamed so the meat and such have a different consistency. Oh...it's so good...you'll love it!

I was tempted to try to make them. But I have not deep fried anything in a few decades!

I always think of dim sum as little presents all wrapped up for me to open and eat!! Dim sum yum!!!

I will certainly report back to you Sunday night about my Dim Sum experience! I will even try and take some pictures....

Love dim sum. Those sesame balls are sooooo good.
We usually go with an asian friend of mine.
One thing that is a tradition is that the youngest at the table pours the tea. You could wow them with this info!!

OHHHH nice thing to remember! Thanks for that little bit of info! :)

Seeing those pictures made me hungry!! It's been over 11 years since I had Dim Sum! I would love to do it again some day.

Dive in,

Try dim sum-style chicken feet

WASH chicken feet. Chop off toenails. Not a recipe for the chicken-hearted, so to speak.
But Elizabeth Ching wants to make dim-sum-style chicken feet at home. Specifically, she says, "I would like to know how to puff the chicken feet so they become very light and fluffy."

I can remember the first time I ate chicken feet, boiled in the kosher soup my grandmother made for Friday night dinner. They were spread out on a china plate, pale and bloated.

It never occurred to me not to partake. There was no surrounding taboo, no disgust at consuming bird feet. I just ate them, and they were good: soft, fatty, and salty, the perfect child's food...as much a game as they were a dinner.

First, I bit the center pad off the foot, which detached in a sinewy lump. That was the prime morsel, the fillet mignon of chicken feet. Then I nibbled the cartilage running up the leg.

The toes, which were the most fun, went last, one claw at time. As daintily as an eight-year-old might manage, I spat out the bones. By the time I went through this elaborate technique with each foot (usually two or three), dinner was over.

So? Did you go? How was it? What did you eat? What did you like or dislike?

Do tell!
