Can I ask your thoughts on this please?

We are currently booked for WDW 9th-30th Dec. The reason I booked to come home before New Year was I assumed that DDs school went back on the 3rd Jan. They dont actually go back till the 5th! I am now thinking we will be gutted to come home and miss all the fun New Years stuff!

Here are the problems. I can change the flights but it will cost £50 pp (there are 5 of us).

If we fly back on the 2nd then it only gives DH the day we fly home to recover before returning to work on the 4th.

If we fly back on the 1st, then the £50 pp makes it very expensive for just adding 2 more days.

Any thoughts on what I should do? Is it worth staying for New Years? Will we REALLY feel like we are missing out if we return on our original date? Do you think the extra few days is worth spending out the £250 (plus the extra nights at the villa, another £200)??? Im looking at £450 for the 3 extra nights for 5 of us...good idea or stupid idea?? I really just dont know! ANY comments would be appreciated!

Going to move this over to trip planning for you to hopefully get some advice on from people who have travelled at this time of year.

I havent.....but would say do it !! LOL :)

It wouldn't be worth it for me. After 3 weeks on vacation I would need at least a couple of days at home to re-adjust. Especially with the time change! Then again, I would never go on new years anyway with the huge crowds!

Hi Allie,

Or should I say "Stalker Girl"?? ;) (My flight back is on Jan 1st!!!)

This is a really tough one. The Disney obsessee in me says, go girl, it's only £150 extra per day. And who would turn down the chance to be in WDW on NYE? (If you are there, fancy meeting in the UK at 12 midnight UK time for a drink??!) Will you have the opportunity to be in WDW on NYE again in the next few years? Also, bearing in mind how much you are already spending is £450 a huge amount on top proportionately?

However, what I would ask myself is:

If I spend the money on this, what will I have to "do without"?? Will it mean less spending money when you are there? Would it mean that you couldn't get that new bit of furniture (for example) that you wanted? (and then I would weigh up the new bit of furniture versus the 3 extra nights). Even if you wouldn't have to "do without" anything - is this simply too much money to spend for 3 nights? I think only you know what's best for you and your family! (Sorry not meaning to sound pompous :) )

Best of luck with your decision.

Cheers

We came back the weekend after new year earlier this year, landed the Sunday and I was back at work Monday. Although I would have to say it was more like Wednesday before I was really back!

Epcot on NYE was wonderful very busy but something really special. We didn't do rides as such just people watched and enjoyed the atmosphere.

I think the fireworks at Midnight Florida time were the best and loadest I have ever experienced. From where we were I think we could see the high fireworks from all of Disney! Amazing. Would I do it again? yes in a heartbeat! but we are keeping it smaller this year so I can start saving a 4 week Disney xmas and new year in a few years time.

Suspect if you are leaving the parks just after midnight then its going to take a age to get out. We were at the Beach Club so we just walked out of international gateway. The reason I chose Epcot no hassle about getting back to room.

So I guess what I'm saying is I would stay but I don't know how this fits in with your family.

Thanks everyone! Going to compromise a tad. I am going to call Expedia in a minute to find out if the flights are still available. DH is a little concerned about his "recovery" time, so I think we are going to do the NYE and fly home on the 1st (hehehehehe...I think I am DEFINATELY stalking you Karen :teeth: ). If there are no seats left, then I will leave it and return on our original date. There was availability a few days ago, so its fingers crossed!

The new furniture will have to wait :D. Karen, do have a spy camera in my house...how did you know I was actually "furniture hunting"???? Its true I swear! The baby has used our old stuff as "teethers"!!!

Jane, thanks for the info about NYE, it sounds fantastic and Epcot is probably where we will choose to see in 2005! I will book a dinner ressie at Cape May or the Yachtsmans and Valet park the car at the Beach Club for the evening to try and avoid the crowds. Uh-oh, look, Im planning and I havent even booked the flights yet!!!

Sounds as though you've already made your mind up, Allie, but to add my 2 cents worth, I think you'll spoil the rest of your stay if you don't do it - you'll be constantly thinking that you've been cheated out of something you were 'meant' to do.

I had a few dilemmas like this in planning our current trip - should we stay onsite at Universal for a couple of nights? (We normally do, but with teenagers we need 2 rooms, so it gets expensive). Should we stay at the Grand Floridian for the night of our V&A's reservation? Should we extend our stay from 2 weeks to 3? Once all these decisions were made (we decided "Yes" to all of them!) I felt a sense of relief and was able to enjoy the planning and build-up to the trip.

Oh, flippin heck. All the flights are now fully booked. Looks like I left it a little too late to make my mind up.

I guess New Year at WDW will have to wait for another time.

Off to sulk now.

Ive cheered up now, as DH says I can add on 3 more days to next years holiday instead...and I can book ANY hotel :teeth: .

Desicions, desicions...!!

Oh, Allie, that's sad :( :( :(

Sorry your plan didn't work out - is it worth trying again in a week or 2??

(But at least you are getting 3 extra days after AKL...and as for ANY hotel...well it would almost be rude not to chose the GF ;))

Cheers

Just to make you feel better, we stayed at wdw last Christmas and New year and flew home on January 2nd. Christmas was wonderful, new year was a nightmare, we had to leave the parks just after lunch as it was impossible to get around. We tried again in the evening and ended up coming back to our hotel by 10pm as we just could not stand the crowds. The hotel though was great and everybody was out singing and dancing around the pool at midnight. I would love to do another Christmas but I think I would make arrangements to be home for New Year.

:sunny:

Thanks for the info, florida sun. After the initial disappointment, Im not too worried now. Our two children are only 4 and 2, so far too young to enjoy any of the NY festivities. They will love all the Christmas stuff though! Im sure there will be a twinge of sadness having to come home "early", but we have another holiday booked for next year already, so plenty to look forward to!

Thanks once again for all the great advice!

Allie
