I'd already assumed that 3 would be what you would do . Boston is a great city - and it doesn't depend on good weather. A crisp autumn day in Boston can be very special.
Definitely keeping the transatlantic flights for next month.
I have just booked flights from Tampa to Boston at the end of the trip, perfect times & direct for a good price.
Only thing we need to decide on now is the start of the holiday, 2 days in Boston or straight down to Orlando, no rush to choose I can wait and see if I see a Boston hotel deal or a flight deal.
I don't know if it's still the case, but when I used to fly internally in the US a lot, I always found that South West were very reasonable. Before MrsR and I were married and I was living here and she was still living in MI, I used to fly in and out of the US and I would fly into whatever city was cheapest and get a cheap internal. It was rare that South West were not the cheapest for the internal leg.

Another vote for option 3
We loved the time we spent in Boston a couple of years ago
October is a really good time of year for whale watching if that appeals?
Boats go right out from Boston harbor

Decided not to do Boston this trip, due to it being Columbus day weekend the hotels were silly money, ones I wanted were all £300/nt plus.
Got direct flights down to, and back up from, Tampa with really good times. Cost a little more than I wanted but had to pay it for the convenience.
Hotel booked in Orlando, staying at the Extended Stay America LBV again, where we stayed last month, great value at £30/nt incl breakfast in a studio. Has a kitchenette, full size american fridge(with ice maker) etc. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_...Orlando_Lake_Buena_Vista-Orlando_Florida.html
Glad I booked it this morning, just checked again and cheapest I can see is £61/nt
Will probably book car with Hertz, they have a 33% off sale on this week, they are cheapest I can find for a SUV at £134 for 9 days.
Meet & Greet still to book at Manchester airport, best I have seen is £33 for 11 days but will look to beat it before booking, although doubt I will get much lower.
I've been watching the price for an SUV in the Hertz sale - the price seems to go up and down significantly on an almost daily basis! Haven't found anything to beat my Alamo/Brits reservation yet (maybe because my time frame extends later into October when its slightly busier), but just a warning, if you get a quote you're happy with, then book it!
Actually just checked this morning and its the lowest quote I've seen since the sale started, so might be a good day to book? (Still £50 more expensive than Alamo for me, including the slightly different cashback rates I can find)
