OK - I need some honest opinions. Don't worry about hurting my pride or offending me, that's pretty hard to do ;)

Here's my situation. I have never had a scale in my house - until yesterday when I was the receipent of a Healthometer Professional (had been used at our church for WeighDown Workshop, sat in the library for over two years and since i'm cleaning out the library I got it) So, I brought it home last night, found it a place in the basement, no carpet and not to handy to become obsessive. It's the dial type, big dial with a knob to turn to set it on zero. I set it on zero and put a 5 lb bag of sugar on it, readout: 5 lbs. So I stepped on it last night and it weighed me 1.5 lbs less then the Y had that morning!

After my jog today (yes I sweated some out) I tried it again and it said 3.5 lbs less than the Y the previous morning. Ironically this is what Mom's scale said to me just Monday morning.

Now I know that the variables aren't identical - i.e. when I weigh at the Y, I have eaten breakfast and it's later in the morning during which I have consumed some water in prep for working out. BUT, I'd like to use this scale here for WI as it's much more convenient and I can WI on the same day every week instead of according to my schedule.

Thing is I feel like I'm cheating to just accept the readout of the new scale. It puts me at mini-goal for July 4, but it feel like dirty money:eek:

I feel this is more about poundage lost, not final weight, so I'm not comfortable claiming those 3 lbs as lost weight. So, how can I transition over to my new scale and not cheat my integrity to myself and feel good about my claims?

CLAIM THE WEIGHT ON THIS SCALE!!!!

You did the sugar test - so you need to CHANGE YOUR WEIGHT IN YOUR SIGNATURE!!!!

I don't see it as cheating at all! :) REALLY!!! Stick with this scale from now on, don't weigh in at the Y anymore. :)

I say if you want to be "official" about it, wait until first thing tomorrow morning, make a pit stop first, then head to the scale to see what you weigh pre-breakfast, pre-any morning beverages, pre-workout sweat-a-thon. Then you can claim that as your weight! :)

And then I can do virtual cartwheels for you MAKING your July 4th GOAL!!!! And also for finally getting a scale at home!!! Hee hee!

Can you hear the "duh" in my post subject line?? OF COURSE YOU CLAIM THOSE POUNDS!!! I say Claim them and then just use this scale to measure from here on out- AVOID the Y scale- even out of curiosity!!
As long as you pick a scale and stick with it- those lost pounds will always be lost pounds- regardless of which scale says so. And I can weigh as much as 2 pounds more if I weigh during the day than in the morning (oh and I always weigh in the buff- never letting clothing have an edge on me not getting a new clippie! :)
ENJOY THE NEW WEIGHT!!!!

I am in TOTAL agreement with Karen and Tara. Claim it- kind of like a refund from the IRS:eek: :) and then STICK WITH THIS SCALE. I wouldn't be bouncing from the Y scale, to Mom's scale to this one....just pick one (preferably this one) And stick with it!!!!! See the Whoosh fairy did find you, you were just standing on the wrong scale!;) :p

I agree, if the sugar was right! Then it's right on the money! Just use this one from now on. I also weigh differently in the morning versus the afternoon. I tend to weigh more in the morning (Odd, I know!). Everyone is different.

What they said!!!!:D :D :D :D

I don't see a problem here at all! You know that your new scale is accurate because you tested it. You also know that the new scale first showed 1.5 less than the Y scale and then 3.5 less--THERE CAN BE NO QUESTION AT ALL ABOUT THOSE 2 POUNDS!! OR THE OTHER 1.5!!! There! Was that loud enough? Don't make me come over there!

Seriously, we all have times when we have bigger losses than at other times. (Think, Whoosh Fairy!) It sounds to me like that is what is happening to you! Be happy, be grateful and TAKE THAT LOSS! YOU HAVE MET YOUR MINI-GOAL!!! WOO HOO!!!!!

excuse me....I've got to go lie down now, i'm tired from all that yelling....

Hey Molly!!! I am COMING OVER!!! I NEED to borrow that scale!!! My scale WONT budge.!!!! LOL!!

Claim those LBS baby!!! Like everyone else said..."keep using that scale and you will be fine!!"

If you would have started with that scale...you would have started at a lower weight (does that make sense?). So according to that scale your weight is what it is!!!

Thanks for the good chuckle though.....(dirty money...ROTFLMBO!!)

Tracy

Congrats on making your mini-goal! And NO, you didn't "cheat" to do it! My new scale shows 3lbs heavier than the one I was using at Curves. So I just adjusted my starting weight accordingly (ie. I would need to be at 190 on curves scale to get my 15# clippie, however I only need to be at 193 on my own scale to get it). I am now using my own scale exclusively for WI, however I will get on the Curves scale every couple of weeks just to compare. It was doing some funky things about a week and a half ago, but is now totally back in line with the 3# difference.

I was at my FIL house last Sat. My ds got on the scale there and he was about 5# lighter than at home. I got on the scale and I was almost 50# lighter than at home!!! I had thought about using that scale to post my loss for the check-in thread ;) My dh got on and he weighed in about 30# lighter ... I told my FIL he either needs new batteries in it, or possibly a new scale (LOL)

you guys are too kind and such my friends! i'm claiming those lbs, ok! I heard ya Mowsie! :) I'm going to WI tomorrow first thing pre-workout/brekkie/coffee etc and that'll be it! I think I'll dock a couple pounds off my all time high just so I feel "clean" about it all, right Tracy ;)

Even at that if it stays the same I"ll be able to say I've lost 20 lbs and claim my 15 lbs clippie! Woo hooo!! I am lowering my goal a few b/c I'm still not quite there, but I never ever dreamed I'd be so close again! I know by the end of summer I'll join Karen with that beautiful red shiny clippie! And if I don't by then, soon after :)

Check in tomorrow for the final results! he he he

Thanks so much for all those supportive words, I really like the new scale much better and I'm glad I can legally claim it and still hold my head high!

at this point if you disagree please express your thoughts to me, but I think you're outvoted!

I support your decision 1000%!!! (I just didn't see the thread in time to post before you made your decision. ;) ) Enjoy that new scale!! And those new numbers!! :teeth:

I got a little in the happy mode last night and ate a few things thinking I was already on my July 4th day. OOOOPIES!!

So the salt and one drink probably didn't help me WI this morning, but I did it anyhow.

I have to tell you that these one pound incriments are harder to read! (I think Karen has a similar scale b/c she says the same ;)) Anyhow, my fuzzy eyes squinted and tried to focus through my astigmatism contact lens and my final decision for today was 138! yipppppeeeeeeeee!!!!!! I was 137 yesterday, and that will hopefully be back by my next official WI on Wednesday.

But, the other thing is I have thought to myself that to avoid being hung up on my "goal" weight that once I hit goal I will consider myself "maintaining" as long as I remaind in a 5 lb range. I know that my weight fluctuates and I don't want to be all disappointed and in a funk if my weight is up 2 lbs from my "goal" b/c I know it two days or a week or whatever it could just as easily be back down. So, these scales is perfect! I can't read those darn one lb incriments very well so my new goal is 134 and then maintaining for me will be to always weigh between 130 - 135.

off to change my signature! Oh happy day!

WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heck, that is a GREAT WI even with the early partying you did last night!!!!!!!

Change your stats, claim that new clippie!!! YOU ARE SO CLOSE TO GOAL NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Molli - I am very proud of you and really happy!!!!! I can not wait to hug the stuffing out of you in December. And I am jealous of all the people going to Kamy's meet who will get to meet you before I do!!!

CONGRATULATIONS on MAKING your mini-goal FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY!!! :) YOU DID IT, KIDDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hug hug hug hug hug!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

P.S. You can ask DH or one of your DDs to check the weight for you. Old man Ross and I did that favor for each other this morning. It really helps! :) I was looking down and seeing one number, Ross was able to take a close look and gave me a "half" (phew!) ;)

ohMom, yup...everyone has this right, and I am glad you took them up on it! Taking the loss as a loss is the proper thing to do. That scale has got to be right anyway because it's been sitting around in God's house before you got it. And you know, He's always right! :D Congrats!
