Dilemma: Need Advice

HH can be difficult to get into during the summer at the 7 month window, especially other than a 2 bedroom.

If you're just looking at this summer, no way I'd buy more points. I think you have the idea you can sell them latter without a loss and have the use in between, I doubt that will be the case for SSR bought retail but you never know. I'd just do cash or else get transferred points into your account for a one time trip.

I considered the transfer option, also thought about a different TS in HH I might be able to rent for less than the DVC HH points. I am just trying to figure out the best way to make a vacation work and appreciate any and all help.

You can also do HH DVC for cash or a private condo rental as well.

I think I would rent points for the summer trip. If the family likes it enough to make it an annual event, then buy HH points resale.

I too think I'd go with the point rental. If you could find a member that is renting HHI points and would book the ressie for you, you wouldn't have to wait until the 7-month mark.

Good luck!

It would be close, and there are certainly a lot of variables, but renting points would certainly be much less hassle.

Look here for data on recent resale transactions:

Buying at $83, using 1+ yrs worth of points and selling at $78-80 seems like a pretty good deal. But don't forget you need to pay maintenance, which will add $4 per point for at least one year. You would also have to sell the contract yourself to avoid broker commissions. If you have to use a broker to sell the contract, you will pay 12-15% on the transaction. That's another $13-17 out of your pocket, bringing your proceeds on the sale down into the $66-70 range.

It's also unknown how the resale market will react to this DVC promotion. If prices bounce back to the $90 neighborhood, then points will probably continue to sell at the prices you see in that database. But, if another highly-discounted price should follow, resale prices will surely begin to slide in response.

...(snip).... Unfortunately, after having DVC for so many years, it makes paying large sums for accomodations very painful......(snip)...
Yes, it sure does. It is one of the reasons that keeps me from selling our BWV points - the urge becomes stronger in January, LOL.

Rent the points - IMHO, it will be better than buying and taking on debt at this time. College is expensive!

Best wishes -
