In the market for a digital subcompact camera for our upcoming Disney trip.

Have looked @ the Sony Cybershot 7.2 megapixal DSC P 200 but have seen some reviews on one website about pictures being out of focus. Also looking @ the Canon Powershot Elph (5 megapixal) SD450 but once again, one website shows that they have had problems w/ LCD breakage.

Anybody have any experience. We are also open to suggestions on other brands. What's your experience or suggestions ????

I have canon SD300 and love it!!! I got it to use as a second camera, but find myself always grabbing it first because it's so portable. Not sure what specs are different on the SD450, but mine takes great photos and I've had no problems at all.

I just got the sony cyber shot 4.1 mp this weekend(posted on budget board, saving of week) anyway- I wanted a SMALL camera that had decent features, and took video w/sound- the price was excellent- had features that many others in it's price range didn't- I suggest doing your homework, poring over websites -find cameras you think you want- then go to store and handle them. To me this is the most important thing- I did this, and the one I thought I wanted, was awful in the store. You can see how it feels, buttons, ease of use- most important, shutter picture lag- this varys widely in cameras in the same price range... I didn't like the canon elph digital I tried b/c it had a slow recover time from snap to snap- these tings are all important. But it's personal, the one I chose may not be your favorite! :goodvibes

I just bought the Canon Elph 550 and love it!! I did extensive reviews on all the small digital cameras and this is the one I went with. I love the size and all the features it has. The pics came out great and the LCD screen is so big 2". Have fun camera shopping!! :goodvibes

I bought the Canon SD500 - 7 MP and great pictures - so easy to use too!

The only thing I don't like is teh flash cycle time, but I didn't like that on any of my other cameras either - though I do think that this camera cycles faster than my other cameras.

I just want to be able to take 5-7 pictures in a row with a flash each time - by in a row, I mean all within a second or so of each other - i'm not sure any camera's flash would do that.

But I do really love this camera - nice and small, great pictures, and so easy to use!

I just bought a Nikon 7900 Coolpix (7.1 megapixels). I looked at Canon, too, but preferred the Nikon as I felt it was easier to hold and was more intuitive. My husband would have gone with Canon an SD550.

Good luck. I've been looking at cameras since the summer and since my trip is in 2 weeks, it was time to make a decision.

We, too, have the 550 and so far are quite happy. I'm told the 550 has a thicker LCD screen to help address the cracking that some 400/500 owners experienced. We shall see.

I didn't know that the 400 was having problems with the LCD screen. I hope the Canono 550 doesn't have that problem.

Thanks everyone for their imput. Still searching reviews & considering cameras including just looked @ the Sony DSC W5 tonight. Anyone have any experience w/ this camera?

Keep your comments coming because it certainly is helping us. Wish the Canon 450 + models were a little bigger because that's my first choice but my DH feels it's too thin for his comfort level.

It is highly recommended to stay with the name brands who established themselves in the 35mm market. Nikon and Canon are great choices.

I would recommend Canon SD500, SD300 or Nikon Coolpix 7900, since you are looking for a Subcompact Digital. Just remember any camera thrown around and not treated with a level of care will break or start to malfunction, so it is recommended you purchase a camera case to fit your personality (softcase to hardcase) and the level of concern you expect to give your camera.

You might want to purchase a November edition of Consumer Reports which is their annual Electronics Edition. This edition provides a ratings section for all categories of digital cameras from compact to SLRs.

I agree with everything you said... minus the Consumer Reports thing. Just visit websites such as dpreview.com dcreview.com, fredmiranda.com. They live and breathe digital photography.

Bought the Canon SD200 this past summer. Loved the small size and the great photos, but the LCD screen broke after just a couple of months use. I treated it with care and know of no reason why the screen broke. I just sent it back to a Canon repair facility for the SECOND time trying to get it fixed. :(

I have a Konica Minolta Dimage X50. The size is great. ITs 5 MP and has lots of features....HOWEVER...although the outside shots are great I find that the indoor shots are not that great, especially it you are shooting movement....ie not posing the shot. So I would recomend NOT getting this camera.

Thanks for the imput - understand that the LCD on the 450 is a different sytle (also larger) but it certainly makes us leary.

Also the info on the Konica Minolta was helpful.

Thanks everyone - we are still struggling with decision. Need to make decision by Black Friday as I hope we can get a good deal over Thanksgiving weekend.

All comments are appreciated - keep them coming.
