Digital Pictures In A Dark Setting??

This last weekend my daugther was in an event where she was on stage. None of our digital pictures turned out, because they were too dark. The only setting that I have found to take good pictures is nighttime, but then you have to be completely still, as does the object you are taking a picture of. Is there any solution to this???
 
Your best hope is to crank up the ISO (as Kelly suggested), set the camera of "aperture priority" mode, and set the f-stop (aperture) to the maximum (smallest number). Also, if your camera zooms, use a wider setting. Almost all zoom lenses get "darker" as you zoom out to telephoto. It's east to loose half the light or more when the zoom is at it's farthest settting.
