Ok, I finally started playing with my digital camera, and figured out how to use the manual settings.

Now... what do I use when???

We're doing the princess breakfast in Norway, and I'd love to get decent pictures of the parade (dare I hope to get some of the fireworks???).

Can anyone give me a quickie lesson about changing the settings for these???

Just some advice...take pics in high resolution, better quality pictures. Good luck with the camera, I know I love mine.

Let the camera do as much of the work for you as you can! Unless you know what you're doing, it's best not to mess with too many settings - the camera is smart enough to do it itself. My only suggestion would be (for parades) use the whatever setting allows you to control shutter speed, with the camera controlling everything else, and set a high speed (anywhere over 1/500 will do the trick) to freeze the action, so you don't get a lot of movement blurs (unless, of course, that's what you want).

Happy shooting!!

Thanks all. Oops, I forgot to mention it was spectomagic...

With my 35mm, about 1/3 of the pics came out, the rest were just plain dark. I was hoping that I could use one of the lighting settings (backfill?) that would help. I wouldn't mess with the default settings, except that I've never really gotten a good shot of the night time parades.

Any more help?? I've gotta go pack, so I probably won't be back until tomorrow.

Can't wait!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Dan's given you some great tips with those links. Does your camera have a night time setting? Many do now days and will automatically configure the camera for great shots - you will probably need a tripod or a real steady hand. You can practice by taking nighttime shots at home (realizing you're getting ready to leave :-) but you may find that the camera does fine just by pointing and shooting and not messing with any of the settings. I've taken a digital camera with me on each trip since 1999 and have been able to get great pictures at night (MSEP, Fantasmic, MK Fireworks, Illuminations) without altering any settings on the camera. Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks! those are awesome sites, Dan.

I'm not expecting success this trip, but I figured that since I never had it before on my 35mm camera without overriding the auto settings, I might as well start messing around this trip. Of course, I got the brilliant idea to ask you camera-gurus AFTER I already packed my camera's manual....

At least with the digital, I can delete anything that doesn't come out, instead of getting an entire roll of dark night-time parade pictures, with only one or two shots that you can see...

Everyone behave while I'm away, ok??? And I'll say hi to Mickey.
