I really don't know where to post this, so move it if you feel it's nessecary.

For those of you out there who have Digital Cameras:

What size memory cards do you have for you camera? When you go to Disney World, how many pictures do you fit into you memory card and do you bring more memory cards?

Also, I know that if I take pictures with a disposable camera the quality is horrible. I have my Olympus and the quality is EXCELLENT (it's nothing major, just a regular snapshot no SLR). Anyways, what determines the quality of the pictures on a digital camera?

Lastly, what kind of zoom do you guys have? I'm not sure what the zoom is on my Olympus but I know it's good enough for my Disney World pictures. So what type of zoom do you suggest is good for when you take pictures at Disney World?

I'm possibly thinking about purchasing a digital camera for the sole purpose of not lugging around film and I also will know if the picture gets screwed up cuz I can view it right on the camera afterwards (when I went with the cheerleaders a lot of my pictures came out HORRIBLE and I don't know why).

Thanks for your help.

Here is what I have. I have a Kodak Easy Share 3.1mp camera. CX6330

I have a 1G memory chip that will hold 1072 pics in my camera. 775 in a 4.0mp camera. Last year I took about 250 pictures and almost filled up my 256mb memory chip so I got the 1G for Xmas. If I fill that sucker up with 1000 photos at Disney then I have serious issues ;) :teeth: I think my mom got it at Sams club for around 80 bucks.

The quality is good in mine, I have some that come out darn near if not postcard quality and some have thought some of my exceptional (not common) pics were postcards. The higher the megapixel the better resolution but I find I get great great quality with my 3.1

My mom has a 4.0 and she told me the higher the megapixel is better if you wish to enlarge the picture like to an 8x10 size or whatever. I guess mine will put out a good quality 5x7 but start getting grainy the larger I go and the higher the megapixel will reduce that.

My camera has the standard zoom that came with it I guess it goes from 37mm to 111mm (equiv) AF 3x optical  not sure what that means but it says it on my camera. It does a great job for what I use it for.

I love having it because I don't have to store all those strips of negatives.
When I get my pics developed I have them put on Kodak Photo CD so I have a copy and can erase my memory chip for next time. The picture CD holds 100 pics so that is quite a bit and I keep a CD case to store them all in.

Kodak also comes with easyshare software so you can crop and print them yourself if you want. Don't know if other brands do or not. I love my camera :)

Hi,

I just bought a canon powershoet S1 and love it. For my trip next week I'm taking (2) 256mb (1) 64mb and (1) 32mb. I'm sure I won't be taking 2500+ pictures, but I got a nice deal on the (2) 256mb at bestbuy when I got my camera so I figured why not.

Hi. I just got a Sony 5.1 for christmas. It came with a little memory card but I bought a 512mg one with the $20 coupon. I can save 354 on that card in standard mode. I haven't used it much yet. I'm still figuring it all out! You can take pics at diff qualities depending on what you want to do with them. From what I've read so far, the higher the quality of pic the more space it takes... I'm not much help :confused3

There are several problems with having a very large memory card like 1 gig. First, does your camera read a 1 gig card? Two- if something happens to the card you have lost quite a few images.

Having several smaller cards allows you to switch them around. If you lose one you haven't lost all your images.

I carry two 512MB memory card with me. I have a 4MP Nikon and I take all pictures at the highest resolution and at a fine setting. I easily get over 200 pictures on each card. So over 400 pictures.

I have a Nikon SLR that I also take. I take all of the photos with the SLR and my husband uses the digital camera. We both get great photos.
For quality on a digital camera, you are mostly looking at how many megapixels the camera has the resolution you set it on for your photos.

I have the standard zoom lens on my SLR that came with my camera body, but I also use a 70-300 zoom lens. This is great for taking pictures of the castle and photos that are further away...like Fantasmic, Cinderella's celebration, TOT, etc.

I completely disagree....

If you are going for, let's say...a week. You can use a 1GB card for your entire visit. If you have a 4MP - 5MP camera and you purchase a 1GB card - you can fit 450 - 650 images on it by using the two highest settings. The number of pictures you get solely depends on which you choose and of course what you take pictures of. Even at 450 pictures, that leaves you taking 64 pictures a day..so basically, close to 3 rolls of 24 exp film.

If you are taking one card with you, then you will be leaving that one card in the camera the entire time, therefore, you will not be losing or misplacing it.

In addition, if you are looking to purchase a new camera for this trip, chances that it will not read a 1GB card are slim to none. If you have an older 2MP camera, then that may be a possibility.

Having more cards to keep up with is a hassel. Especially if you have to swap them out during the middle of a show or parade. You would then lose precious picture moments, like you do with a 35MM camera.

BeckWhy - I work in hardware and software and have quite a bit of info I can provide you if you would like to PM me. :) I would be glad to help.

I have the Olympus Stylus 300 Digital (3.2 megapixel) and for some reason, my camera is only capable of holding up to 256 Mb cards :sad2:

Last time I had 1 128 Mb card and 1 16 Mb card. The 128 can hold about 130 or so and the 16 can hold like 30 (ha!).

However, I still managed to take 411 pictures during my last 5 day visit, because I have a laptop, and took it along to dump my pictures off each night. For those of you worried about memory card accidents, this may be a plausable solution. :flower:

The thing I had to watch out for last time was that my Lithium-Ion battery is allegedly good for no more than 200 "normal" shots. So I made sure to recharge it every night, as on the second day it died out on me mid-day in Epcot :sad2:

Moral of the story: I am getting a 256 Mb card (larget my camera can hold) and a spare battery for this trip off of Amazon.

I hope to break my previous "record" of 411 ... :rotfl:

Hi DisneyDude. Does your manual say that it can only accept a 256MB card? Sometimes this can depend on the quality of the card as well as the age of the camera. If you use a card like a SanDisk or Lexar vs something like PNY or brand X, you can run into this problem. Some of these cards come from the same manufacturer, but just have the vendors label on them.

Well, the Olympus camera site says mine can accept 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 Mb cards. I supposed it doesn't say I can't use a 512 or 1 Gig, but I guess there's no way to be sure. My camera was bought in late-summer 2003.

My camera uses xD media, and I have Fuji and Olympus cards right now. ::MickeyMo

I have a Kodak DX6490, it's a 4 megapixel. We took it on our WDW trip last fall and it was great! I have 2 memory cards, each is 256mb, and I had 250+ on one card and 200 or so on another, 457 total pics with room to spare. The chart with the cards said they held less than that at 4-mp quality, but I had more room anyway.

I love my digital!

The Olympus brand is good; both the card and the camera. I have heard of that issue with cameras that use an xD card. I prefer cameras that use a CF card. They are also usually the least expensive cards. I have two 512 CF cards myself. One was $89 with a $20 rebate and the other was $32 after rebate.

If the site does not say it can take a 512 or higher, it may also be because those were not available at the time of press release. However, I think the 512 would have been.

Have you tried a 512MB card? Like borrow one from a friend?

I haven't tried a 512 yet. I might call up Olympus and see what they tell me about it.

I have serious photo issues. I'm an addict and I admit it! For our Feb 04 trip I took 25 rolls of 35 mm film and filled up two 512mb memory cards (over 500 pictures).

My 35 mm is an SLR but I still love the digital aspects so this year I purchased a digital SLR camera, 2 512mb memory cards (can fit 200 photos each) and a laptop so I can transfer my photos each night and have clean memory cards.

I purchased the laptop a few weeks ago at Best Buy for $499. I figured I would have purchased at least 5-8 memory cards at over $50 a piece so it paid for the laptop...

Serious issues I know.....

Love the information. I have been looking at digital cameras for our trip in April - they had a Kodak Easy share 7530 for $328 CND at Walmart (5.0) and I'm glad to see the Kodak works good. I'm a newbie so I have a question on the cards. When I was looking some took memory sticks and some the cards. What is a 'xD' and 'CF'? Thanks.

Too funny - you and I should be in the PA (Photos Anonymous) class. :rotfl2:

It is a different type of card, this depends on how the camera is designed.

A CF card is Compact Flash, xD is another kind, there is also an SD card, which is secure digital.

Here is a link you can look at that may help you. You can see what the cards look like.

CF cards are usually the least expensive.

We just got back from our Disney trip and before we went we bought a Kodak LS753.

We also bought a 512 MB card. The card cost $40 but when you think I would have had to buy 24+ rolls of film to for the same # of pics, you just can't beat it. It was so great to have that one tiny card and not tons of rolls of film!! This camera has 5.0 megapixels with the ability to videotape and also lower the pixels if you want to get more pictures.

We are very happy with the quality of the pictures, they do not look digital at all and the color is amazing!! I was able to take 586 pictures on the 512 card. We used the 5.0 setting for most of the pictues but did switch to a lower setting for some of the pictures but I cannot tell which.

The best thing about this camera is it part of the Kodak pocket series. It easily fit in the front pocket of my backpack purse or in my husbands pocket.

By the way I read somewhere that at MK they will download your pictures onto a disk for you at one of their photo places. If you filled up your card that would be an option.
