Has anyone bought a digital camera lately? What prices are they running these days? Thanks!

Hey PinWizard! We bought a Sony digital camera almost 2 years ago for mid-$200 range. You can buy an even BETTER Sony now for around the same price. Of course, there are other brands that are less expensive, but after all the research I did before I bought this one, I liked Sony the best. Mostly for the usability factor. It seemed relatively easy to use compared to some!

Hope this helps!

Anytime! And, I would suggest you order it off Amazon! You can get free shipping and pay no tax! I'm all for a bargain! :teeth:

My sister just bought a Kodak easyshare camera, it was about $200 at OfficeMax, and came with a free 128mg memory card.

I'm thinking about upgrading my Olympus c720 to an Olympus c5050 ... that's about a $400 upgrade, so I'm not sure if I'll actually go with the new camera or not. The 5050 has a very nice underwater housing available, which would be nice if I want to actually do some underwater photography, but I'm not sure if I can cost-justify the camera upgrade.

I'd love to be able to afford a digital SLR camera, but I don't see that happening soon, so for the time being, it's just wishful thinking.

DPReview Boards
This is the sony board but they have every possible camera board there... Excellent information, not too overwhelming....

We bought a 2MP for DW about 2 months ago and it was around $200. It died and they no longer have that one, so we ended up getting a 3MP for her and the total for the camera ia around $300. I already have a digital camera that takes CompactFlash cards, so we got her a camera that took CompactFlash cards. It seems a decent 2MP camera is around $200 and 3MP is around $300. We got a Canon and it is very easy to use as a point and shoot. Her camera can also do all kinds of things for an advance photographer. Nikon has some nice ones out there too.

Wow! That's a bargain. :teeth: Thank you!!

Dave...your wife's camera died in just 2 months? :earseek:

Lachesis...Thank you so much for that link! I'll be sure and check it. :)

SW...Good luck with that upgrade. Sounds expensive! :scared:

We think it was the interlock on the door for the memory card. It is a simple little switch. Those things can last forever or you look at them and they say I quit. LOL The camera tokk great pics. Best Buy just replaces cameras that new. That is why we ended up getting a better camera.

We finally convinced MIL to go digital especially since she is going on a trip of a lifetime to Sweden this August. I found a Canon S-30 from Ritz Camera for $219. Shipping was $9.95. The camera arrived three days after we ordered it on the internet and it is a great camera; it is easy to use and the pictures look wonderful. It is a 3.2 megapixel camera. (I wish I had that camera!)

Ours is a Nikon 3.2 megapixel camera Coolpix 3500; it works great but I like the feel of the Canon better. We got our Coolpix last year for around $300.00.

Id be making the company fork over a new camera :( That sucks!!

Your welcome. It takes about cameras but also how to take better photos. They've saved my life more then once :D

Thanks, Kathy! I have a Ritz down the street. I can at least start looking to see what's out there. Best Buy too...I forget them. :)

Dave...Did they replace the camera with a better model without you having to fork over more money or did you have to pay the difference? I would hope that if they aren't carrying that model or if it's been discontinued by the manufacturer, they replace it without additional charge!

I got the Kodak easy share dx 6440 with the charging dock at Staples for $300. I added the replacement warranty - very worth it, as the battery door is SO flimsy. I've replaced it once, about to replace it again, as the door is broken again (I think someone dropped the camera). GREAT camera, just that darn door sucks!
