I'm sitting here debating on whether or not to go for the Kodak Dx 7630 6.1MP. Is it worth it to go for the higher MP as opposed to getting a 4 MP?? Wal-Mart.com has them for like $360 which is the best price I can find. They're $400 everywhere else (including the Wal-Mart store I was at today!) I want to go ahead and order tonight if I can make a decision. Amazon had them $1 cheaper yesterday and now they're $20 higher! So, I want to order before Wally World raises their prices too. Any advice?? I am by no means an expert on Digital cameras. Okay, I admit I've never owned one, so HELP Please. :D
Thanks,
Sherry

For all practical purposes (typical snapshots) a 4mp is fine. You can get pretty decent prints from a 4mp. But for $350 from Walmart the 7630 is a great deal. Just think, no more film processing costs. I went digital over 3 years ago and won't go back to film.

But don't be too caught up with the idea that higher mp automatically means better pics. It usually does but not always. The main things to look for is OPTICAL zoom (pretty much ignore digital zoom specs and avoid using it), battery type (and replacement cost) and the memory card type. I always recommend getting a extra few memory cards and a few extra set(s) of batteries.

You mentioned the 7630 but not the model # of the 4mp.

I've looked at some sample pics from the 7630 and they look pretty nice. This camera gets rave reviews at circuitcity.com (user reviews).

You can see sample pics at www.steves-digicams.com

Just click on "camera reviews" then find the right mp category then look to see if the model is listed and click on it. There's pull down menu on the left that will get you to the samples. Click on the smaller one to see the full size image. I like this site because he takes sample pics of the same subject which makes comparisons better (apples to apples).

Thank you so much! I went ahead and ordered it. Now, if I can just figure out how to use it when it gets here. LOL

Don't go for Megapixels alone!!! The quality of the lens is much more important! There's no use of having a large CCD with a bad lens. Additionally: the more pixels you have, the more memorycards you need.

I have a 3MP and the picture quality is as good as my 35 mm.

I echo the above, mega pixels are nice to sell, but rarely used above 3 by most people. That steves is a great site for review. Good luck, which did you order?
