Digital Cameras at Disney- how can i do this?

I dont have a 35MM camera, or I would just buy tons and tons of film and not worry about it.
I have a digital camera, and my memory card will hold about 120 pics on highest setting. I will buy another memory card, but dont want to buy more than that b/c Disney is the only time I would ever think about taking that many pics. Knowing me i'll take a gazillion pics.
What is the best way to empty a memory card?
I dont have a laptop to download to, is there a way I can do this without buying 3-4 memory cards?

How do you do dig. pics?

I'm thinking about maybe taking a full card to a local store and having them transferred to a Cd- will they still be high quality ? i usually do all of this at home.

Yes, you can go to a camera shop and have them transfer to a CD. In fact, I think you can do this at Disney at a self-serve kiosk. I did hear one story recently about someone who did this, then got home and found the CD was blank, so be careful. I'd opt to do it at a camera shop in the area.

You can get them downloaded to CD at Disney. I would go to a local store if you transportation, because Disney's prices are very high there. If you go to Disney often, it maybe cheaper in the long term to buy more memory. The difference in what you pay to get the pics downloaded, to the cost of memory in the long term may be cheaper.

You mentioned you don't want to buy another memory card because you won't realistically fill up the first one, except at Disney. My question is, what do you plan on doing with the pics when you get home? If you will simply download them to your computer and either print the pics out yourself or burn your own CDs it may be cheaper to buy another memory card.

As others have mentioned, it is very expensive to transfer them to a CD at Disney. Even many off site places may be on the expensive side since you are in a tourist area (plus you'll waste time driving to the off site place). And, what happens if the images didn't transfer properly and you've already erased the card? You would lose a whole vacation's worth of pictures. If you have an extra memory card you can keep all the images until you get home and can transfer them yourself and verify that the images transferred properly.

Memory cards are relatively cheap these days. I don't know what type of memory card you have, but a 128 MB Compact Flash card can often be bought for $40-50 on sale (look around for a good sale/rebate). Plus, you'll have the extra memory card for future use if you ever need it or the original card breaks. It never hurts to have a spare and can be very expensive to but one when on vacation.

Buy yourself a little peace of mind and get an extra memory card.

If you're using compact flash cards, don't pay more than $50 for a 256 MB card. I think Staples has one at $49 after rebate.

The quality of the pics if transfered to cd should be fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was $20 a CD.

The quality of the image on the CD are dependent on what you took the image at with the camera. There are different levels of quality so you need to pick a higher quality to be able to print at larger sizes.

I would buy one or two extra memory cards. That way you could deal with saving the images until you got home. Also if something were to happen to your one and only card you could still have some pictures left.

I was planning on buying a second memory card, but i'm debating on whether i should get a third.

Think i'll need it? I'll save the pics to cd and have them printed at Costco for my scrapbook when we get home Ü

I would go for the third card. Then you won't have to worry if you see that great shot for your scrapbook.

Then when you get home you can go through them.

I know this sounds weird, but do you have an iPod? There is an adapter that will let you down load from cards to the iPod hard drive. You can find info on it here .

1) Like others, I recommend extra cards.
2) We have two cameras with (3) 256mb and (1) 128 mb cards.
3) We have yet to run out of memory space.
4) We then transfer the photos when we get home. *
5) Be sure to carry an extra battery or two.
6) Hand-carry the chips through airport security.

* We have heard of several people who have lost photos trying to transfer them at WDW. Regardless of whether this was operator error, guest error or machine error, the pictures were still gone.

We always bring 2 cameras with us - that way hubby & I each have our own when we need to snap a shot. One is a 35mm, and the other is our digital camera. I have 3 memory sticks for it, and have in the past borrowed a memory stick for our Disney trip from my Mom - who has the same camera. This was really helpful for our Christmas trip to the World. Another option if you don't have a 35 mm, might be a disposable camera? We brought a waterproof disposable once for use at the waterparks. HTH!

I'm so glad I read this thread! I never thought of borrowing a card! My DSs camera takes the same cards! Oh, and be sure to bring an extra battery! My Canon Power Shot S45, takes only a rechargeable, and we have invested in two batteries. One will be with us, and other in the room recharging, so that we never get caught short!

Are you supposed to carry the memory stick thru security?? I think someone mentioned hand carrying the chip thru security at the airport. You're talking about the memory stick? I thought they were safe to go thru????

I always take my cameras and film and/or memory cards in my carry on. Film needs to be hand inspected, the xray machine may mess it up on carry on. The xray machines for checked baggage will mess up the film. Xrays do not hurt memory cards. Ii take mine for peace of mind, because of the cost of the cards.

Why not buy an extra card before you leave, but don't open it unless you need it and hold on to the receipt. That way if you don't use it you can return it when you get home. Another idea would be to buy the extra card and use it for the trip. When you get home, if you don't see another use for it later, sell it on ebay. You probably won't get all of your money back that way, but you'd get at least get a portion.

I've got a 256Mb card and I'll probably pick up another one before our trip in June. My camera uses the xD cards which cost a little more. $90 for a 256Mb card is a good price for me!
