I am planning to get DH a digital camera for Christmas. With the help of the BUdget Board and esp, GailT, I decided on a Nikon 3100. Amazon has the best price I can find at $270, plus $25 mail in rebate from Circuit City. If you go straight through Circuit City there is no rebate offer.

But, this board has taught me well, and I'd like to earn points too! I noticed that I could buy a SuperCertificate from giftcertificates.com through UPromise and get 4% back.

Then I'll go to Circuit CIty through MyPoints with the rebate, and buy a memory card and get points.

Does that work? What am I missing?

Don't buy the Supercertificate. They'll charge you a 95¢ handling fee for it. They do not charge for emailable merchant GCs, so you could buy the Amazon.com GC directly instead.

However, I went thru the checkout procedure for this item at Amazon.com and they will not accept Amazon.com GC's for the Circuit City purchase. This is true for a few of their merchants. I noticed that this was the case with Nordstrom's last year.

In theory, your idea works. It just won't work for your particular case.
