My husband loves to fish and he likes to bring a camera so he can take pictures of the fish he catches since he lets most of them go. The last camera he had was dropped into the lake and was ruined.
He would like a camera that can get dunked but is not too expensive.
I looked on Amazon, but most of the cameras were way too expensive.
Anyone have a nice camera that can take a quick drop in the lake?

I bought an Olympus this summer that is waterproof up to 30 feet. It was $350, but they had a less expensive one good to 10' for less. It is also drop resistant up to 6'. I LOVE it. It's point and shoot but the pics are great. I did buy one of the previous year models in green, the yellow and other colors were more but I didn't care about the color.

I don't know the model off the top of my head, I'll check tonight.

Also...search the photography boards, that's where I had gotten a bunch of recommendations this Summer for an underwater digital.

I bought one of these:

Went to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA this summer and my camera survived being dunked way under the water and the pictures came out great! The case is very light and I was able to sling it across my body. All in all the best $30 I've spent in a long time. It will be perfect for my annual OBX trip next summer.

We have this camera, and it does take nice pictures. DH is a photo nut, so he still prefers his nice Nikon DSLR, but we love having a camera we can take to the beach and not worry about water or sand or salt ruining it.

We did have to replace the camera, though. It got water in it after a trip to the beach. The Canon folks were great - they replaced it with a new one with no trouble.

DH did a lot of research before buying the Canon, and he has been pleased with it.

Here's another vote for http://www.dicapacusa.com/. We got ours at Best Buy. We live at the beach and my husband takes pictures all the time of everything. This hasn't failed us yet! You can even hear sound if you are recording video. :)

I love my SLR but it is so big to lug around. I had been wanting a small water camera since summer. 2 weeks ago I finally go the Fuji and love it. It is small and I am happy with the pic quality. When I first started looking I think it was 199 but I picked it up at BJ's for 139. The same week Target had it for 159.

I love it and it takes the same memory card as my SLR.

I bought the dh the OLYMPUS Stylus 790SW which is both shock and water proof. We used it for out under water Swim with the Stingrays in Grand Cayman! It was AMAZING and the pictures were crisp and clear. I think I paid about 250 (over year ago) prob cheaper now.....great camera!!!

Thanks for all the replies! This gives me much to think about. The camera doesnt need to be fancy, just take pictures and a dunk in the lake sometimes :lmao:

I have the Olympus 850, takes decent enough pictures, provided there's a good amount of light. Evening, indoors, murkier water, or the like and they are grainy. I much prefer my DSLR, but it's great for what it is. Disclaimer I did have water get in the seal somehow early on, not sure how. Luckily, I'd bought it (on clearance) at LLBean, so it was a very easy swap out.

My recommendation for any of them is to get something too for it to float. Olympus sells a floating wrist strap that holds it up. I went uber budget though. I cut a 9" piece of a pool noodle. Looped a lanyard through the camera strap and then looped through the hole in the pool noodle. I got alot of odd looks, but it held up the camera!

we also have the OLYMPUS Stylus 790SW. Love it- take it to the beach, swimming, skiing, etc.. It takes great pictures..

I am also in the market for one of these cameras, and based on my research, the Canon one has the best reviews. Now my question is do I buy now or wait for Black Friday.

here is the Olympus one in Blue:

personally I think the fuji takes great pics for only 20. more

this Canon takes awesome pics but is quiet a bit more

The Canon PowerShot D10
Blue.Fairy mentioned is a good one..:lovestruc

This is like a regular Canon Camera with all the features and the added waterproof feature. It can be compared to the new SD780 IS which sells for fifty bucks less

and you can also have a look at the Olympus Stylus 850 SW 8MP Shockproof Waterproof Digital Camera (it is Orange)..

My daughter has the regular fuji(about 2 yrs old) and my son has the underwater one(got it this summer). They have both had extremely good luck with them. My son takes it in the pool and the pictures are incredible.

this camera must be discontinued because it has gone up in price at amazon, which usually means it has been discontinued and replaced with a newer model I did find it at Crutchfield for $249 low stock

I recommend this too.

Be careful buying the dicapacs online. We bought one that they SPECIFICALLY listed as fitting our camera on their website, and it did not.

We ended up buying a waterproof olympus for around $300, and have been happy with it but that might be overkill...

We just bought an Olympus Stylus 850SW for our Disney trip in May. (I think we paid about $200). I was a bit hesitant to take it in the pool at CSR because it was halfway through our trip and I was paranoid I was going to lose our pictures. I saw a lady with one near the slide and she assured me she had been using hers in the pool for a week. It was fine and we got tons of great shots at the pool (even took it underwater) and in the parks (we were there during the 20 or so inches of rain).

Here are a few shots:

Our other camera is also an Olympus that we got in 2005. We love that one too, but you can't drop it, freeze it, or take it in water. :upsidedow

We have the Olympus water resistant, drop resistant point and shoot as well and love it! DS4 loves to take pictures with it and we don't hesitate to let him, since we know he would have a hard time hurting it. The screen on the back is a large size, and DS4 is able to work all of the buttons easily.

I really wish the camera we took with us on DS's first trip to Disney had been drop resistant, as DH accidentally dropped it and broke it halfway through our trip. We ended up buying a disposable camera w/flash from the photo center at Epcot and trying to take some still photos with our video camera, but they just weren't the same (thank goodness for Photopass!). Lesson learned: take at least 2 point and shoot digital cameras with us next time!
