Digital Camera Problem

I have a problem with my digital camera. It seems that every time I change my battery, it does something to my card. This happened twice now. My battery died, so I changed it the other day & when I tried to view the pics I had on my camera, it told me the card couldn't be read, so I had to re-format the card, which in turn wiped out all the pics I had on it. I'm really worried about this happening while we're at WDW next week. Help! :(

What happens when you remove the card first, then change the battery, then put the card back in?

(I'd be running back to the shop where I bought it if I were you. I wouldn't risk my trip pictures.)

Just curious: what kind of camera is it?

It's a Nikon. Uh-oh...I haven't tried taking the card out first before changing the battery. Am I supposed to do that? I've had the camera for over a year, but I really haven't had time to play with it too much. I guess I should read my manual, huh?

I doubt you are supposed to, I just wondered if it would help temporarily. If it is still under warranty, I'd take it back.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4300. It has the rechargeable battery. I always take out the battery to charge it while the card is still in the camera. I haven't lost any pictures.

It's a Nikon Coolpix 3100. I checked the error message in the manual & it says to use an approved card (which I know it is) and if the card is damaged to take it to a Nikon rep. So, the only thing I can think of is maybe it's the card. I'll have to buy a new card & keep my fingers crossed.

I have a Nikon Coolpix and my directions say to take the card out before replacing the batteries or it could my delete the pictures. :D
