Digital Camera Downloads in the Parks?

I'm going to be bringing my digital camera with me again on this trip and was wondering if there is a place either in the parks or resorts where I could download the pictures from my camera and burn them onto a cd rom. If so, how much does it cost? Can I bring my own blank cd's to burn these onto? What about outside of the parks?

I think there is some place at MK, and maybe at other parks. However, I'd be very careful about erasing the photos off your memory card. I read a post on here where someone was doing the same thing or close to the same thing as you. Somehow, everything got erased.

I keep everything on my memory card and get the photos printed out first before I do anything else. Better safe than sorry as far as I'm concerned.

There are two places. One is in the Magic Kingdom at the Exhibition Hall. Warning, the machine is very slow and can take up to 45 minutes or more to do if your camera is set to the highest setting. The cost is like $13 per CD-Rom disc. The second place is MGM studios in the camera shop, you can drop your memory card off and the shop will have your CD or prints back to you around 1pm. I believe the cost is about the same.

I have heard of people pictures not being on the disc after they get home and after they have erased their memory cards. But what I did was after the pictures were finished downloading and everything was complete. I took the disc out of the machine and then reinserted the disc in the machine as if I were going to add more pictures. I then double checked the cd against my memory stick in my camera to ensure all of my pictures were on the cd. Once I saw all of my pics were downloaded to the cd, I then erased my memory stick.

Thanks for the tip Kimickey. I would not have thought to check the cd before erasing the images from the memory stick!

Thanks for the info. Since the one at the MK is so slow, is there a local CVS or Walmart or Target that has the machines to do this? Is it cheaper than in the parks? Should I just hold onto everything that's on the sticks until I get home?

I went to Walgreens just off the Disney property and the cost was $3.14. The girl printed out 1 photo and let me see that the pictures had been downloaded onto the cd before she gave me the memory card back. It took about 10 minutes.

Another option to consider.

We purchased a 20GB Vosonic X's-Drive II from mydigitaldiscount.com when we went on our summer vacation this past July. It's about the size of a paperback book, operates on battery or outlet and accepts several different kinds of media. You insert your media in the appropriate slot and press the transfer button. Basically acts as a hard drive with out the PC. Connects to your home PC via USB. Transfer from the X drive to PC was as simple as drag and drop.

My wife carried two 256 MB memory sticks into the parks and transfered each evening back in the room. We were gone for 18 days and she took over 3000 pictures!

The only draw back was the price, about $180, with shipping. We haven't,however, needed to buy any additional memory sticks or pay for transfers since. She says the best part was taking as many pictures as her fingers could snap!

Again, just another option. We found it to work well.

if you have a laptop bring the laptop with you and leave it in the hotel, each day when you get home copy the contents of the card to the laptop HD. of course, if you dont have a laptop this wont help, you can also use an Ipod and get the memory card reader for that. or buy a few memory cards.

We bought an extra memory pack for our camera when we went on our cruise. Had over 300 pics available, more then enough. We also had our original that held about 100.

This was the high quality. If you down the quality it went up to about 800.

I think we have a 52mb card cost about $80 at Best Buy, well worth it.

Another long term option, believe it or not, is iPod.

If you have any need for portable music, an iPod is a great device. But even apart from that, you can also use it as a place to store your digital photos before you get home. You buy an adapter, download them onto the iPod every day, and then when you get home dowload them right on to your computer. It's like taking a 20 or 40 MB laptop with you everywhere -- except without a keyboard or monitor, and less than the size of a deck of cards. I can get by now with just one medium sized memory stick. You can even stick the iPod in your pocket and download the pictures to it while you're walking down the street.

Check with your hotel. We stayed at the Wyndham I drive and they had a business centre that I burned my pic's to a cd-rom. I brought a blank cd with me it was fast and very convenient. I plugged my camera into the usb and off I went.

I have 5 sticks that will hold a total of 570 pictures at the highest quality. Thanks for the info. If I'm staying at Pop Century, how do I get to Walgreen's? How far is it? Do they supply you with a disk to burn it on or do you need to bring your own?

Thanks!!

We had a car, I guess you could take a taxi. From Pop Century it took me about 10 minutes. They supplied the cd.

Thanks Tammy. We're renting a car, so once I've filled the sticks up, I can make a quick trip over there. Thanks again everyone!!!

Is the Walgreen's close to one of the major attractions (MK, AK, MGM, EP or DTD)?

If anybody is worried about not having enough space on their digital camera cards to store pictures and want to increase their memory, I have been seeing a lot of retailers having big sales on CF cards and SD cards. We only have a 512MB card and found a 1GB card at either Best Buy or Frye's for $70 after mail-in rebate. SanDisk brand. The 512MB were $45 after mail-in rebate.

I have seen sales on SanDisk and Lexar both lately. Both are very good brands. PNY has also been one advertised. PNY is okay, too.
