Need some advice:

I have a digital camera and I was planning on taking my laptop on our 3-day cruise so I could download pictures everynight. I do have 2 memory cards but I don't think that they would be enough and I really don't want to buy another. One is 256mb and the other is 512mb.

I know that's still a lot of picures but I love taking pictures. So what do you normally do when you go on a cruise? I would prefer not to take the laptop but I like having the ability to free up my memory card whenever necessary. :confused3

I take lots of pictures. I have a 6 megapixel Canon digital Rebel. At the 2nd highest resolution, those cards should hold about 375 - 400 pictures. Having been on a 4 night and a 7 night, if you fill those cards up on a 3 night, you won't have time to do anything else! That said, I don't go hardly anywhere without my camera, laptop, and external hard drive. If your laptop is wi-fi, you can also web surf on the ship if you feel the need. :teeth:

I would spring for another memory card so I wouldn't have to lug the laptop around and waste valuable vacation time transfering photos etc.

An alternative is that I believe shutters will burn a CD with your photos from your memory card, so you could fill one card, drop it off at shutters while you fill the other.

Moving files from your memory card to your laptop is a few minutes at most.

We actually enjoy relaxing at the end of the day by viewing our photos. I turn the slideshow option on my picture viewer and we hang out on the bed and check out the photos of the day.

It is fun for us to see which photos came out well and those that we will be deleting soon. :goodvibes

We are leaving tomorrow for Magic and Wilma! I called last night - Shutters will burn an 800 megabyte CD for $14.99. I am a Creative Memories consultant so I take LOTS of pictures- I am heading out today to buy another memory card. I don't want the bother of my laptop and for the cost of 2 CD's - I can get another 512 memory card.

I am sure no computer nut but could you go to the internet cafe and download pictures? On our 4 day on the Wonder in 2004 I took over 400 pictures. Have fun :wizard:

My husband is a super techno computer geek and he has a high end Nikon Digital Camera. I got tired of him dragging his lap top on every trip to download the pics each night. So he found this cool little gizmo called Flash Trax by SmartDisk. I just think he wanted another new toy!!!

Check it out at www.smartdisk.com. It's not cheap (about $300) - but it sure beats bringing the laptop and it's been every worth the $!

Sorry, this is a no can do.

Mine has a DVD player on it, so it's great for plane rides and late night movies when you don't like whats on TV.

I brought my laptop on the repo cruise. I could have used the luggage space for something else but it was nice to download the photos daily. We are looking at this Flash Trax as well. I want to wait until prices come down (next cruise isn't until September). If he gets it, would love to hear how he likes it.

I filled my 512 MB card three times in a four-night stay at WDW in May, and my old 256 MB card every day on my cruise last December.

I always bring my laptop, download the pictures and burn them onto a CD at the end of each day. Then I organize and label them on the flight home. This way I'm sure that I don't lose any of the pictures!

We have taken the laptop along for several trips. While we enjoy the ability to watch movies on the plane ride, plus the downloading of pictures . However lugging it around is a pain.

I'm getting the new Ipod for this. Holds 60GB and will download pictures straight from you camera. You can view them and even run a slide show as well. Listen to music, audio books and even your favorite move too. PLUS, it's small!!

I'm not sure if the price will go down - it's been the same price since my hubby got it like a year a go. I'll tell you it's well worth the $$.

I bought extra memory cards to take digital photos with on our cruises. They're cheap, tiny, and if something happens to one I don't lose all of the vacation photos like I would if something happened to the laptop. I also love the challenge of packing light and I don't want to lug a laptop. Truthfully I don't even want to see a computer while I'm on vacation! :badpc:

I've lugged around a laptop and external CD-Burner plus several blank CDs.

I never want to risk loosing these once-in-a-life-time pictures, so I copy the images to computer hard drive AND burn to a CD before deleting from a memory card.

During the Repo cruise, I exceeded the capacity of the hard drive and burned two copies of the images before the memory cards were deleted.

It's been more to lug around, but it's total cost and piece of mind has been worth it ($50 for 2nd hand laptop, $15 for memory card reader, $100 for cd burner, and I'm only limited in space by the number of CDs I bring). So far I've been able to use this setup 3 times.

This is exactly what I was considering, only I was worried about the "all my eggs in one basket" thing. Anyone know if I can carry the iPod into WalMart (or shutters) and burn the photos to a CD from there?

I have just purchased the most incredible little gadget I have ever seen. It an Epson P2000 40gb portable media storage and photo viewer. It was quite pricey at about 500 bux but this thing is awesome. You can downlaod thousands of mp3's, 20.000+ photos and movie files. It aceepts memory cards straight from your camera. Has a 4" inch lcd viewing screen that is incredible. I bought this exclusively for my trip instead of extra memory cards. I don't have a laptop, only a desktop at home for my photo sharing. I want to be able to sort through my photos to pass time on the trip and on the plane. Plus I can download hundreds of music or video files to it for on the flight to entertain me. The options this unit has is just mind boggling. Like I said it was pretty high on price but it is very convenient and not much bigger than the size of my wallet. Look it up on any search engine or Ebay to get a glimpse. This looks to be by far my best investment for electronic gadgets in my collection. I had looked at other portable media storage units on the market which can be much more affordable starting at around 100 bux, but this is the GRAND DADDY of them all at this current time according to all the reviews I read up on. These are great tools for travelling and most devices accept your memory cards right in the unit with no adapters. Beats the heck out of lugging around some bulky computer for a week in my opinion. Check them out. Great travelling tools. try here www.peddlerstore.com
They have a wide selection.

We are getting to ready to leave this afternoon for the 10/22 Magic. I purchased a IONI yesterday - will let you know how this does this week. It is a 20 gb and about $160. Will tell Mickey hello for you all! :cool1:

I didn't take my laptop and I'm glad, the safe was too small to hold it.

Have you considered an iPod? You can download thousands of pictures to one, they are small, and you might be able to use it while lounging at the pool.

Thanks everyone. I have decided no computer for me. I really didn't want to lug it around. Especially since it is only a 3 night cruise. I am going to look into all those smaller gadgets that some of you mentioned. Thanks, Thanks.
