Let's stop hijacking Bernie's challenge and continue this conversation here.

If you haven't read what's been put out there so far, read up HERE.

I probably should keep my mouth shut as I don't really want to fan the flame, but here I go. Why should we keep them Disney only? This way we ARE excluding people and that is wrong. I admit that when I made my monkey page, I completely forgot about our hidden "disney" requirement and when I remembered, I just kept going on, no sense in starting over and at that point I didn't care if I got DQ'd for it. I got a page done and that is an accomplishment.

There have been many challenges where I didn't do the challenge because it wasn't something I wanted to scrap about with Disney pics. Perhaps if we change it to: Try to make it Disney related, but if you cannot, that is ok. That way we will try to make it all Disney themed, but we aren't excluding anyone because they don't have appropriate pictures or experiences to scrap about.

And while this is a Disney forum, this is a subsection relating to scrapbooking, ALL scrapbooking. We all happen to be Disney fans, so the talk sometimes centers around Disney themes, but when they released Hello Kitty Cricut cartridges, you better believe that it got posted about!

Here's what I think . . .

If we are considering challenges with a Disney theme as "excluding" people then that can be said of ANY challenge with a theme. If you don't have the pics to go with the theme, you don't do the challenge.

That's why I'm suggesting starting a non-Disney related challenge chain if you want.

The challenges we've started here were started with the purpose of inspiring us to get our Disney pics scrapped. That's their focus. We didn't start the challenges so that every digi-scrapper out there could scrap along with us. We started them so that we Disney-freaks who have too many Disney pics than we know what to do with can start to get inspired and get them scrapped. I'm sorry if this doesn't apply to everyone - we don't intend to purposely exclude anyone - that is just what these challenges were started for.

On the other hand - that's not to say that there can't be digi-scrap challenges hosted here at the DIS that every digi-scrapper out there could scrap along with! That would be totally great too and I'd probably be a regular supporter of such a challenge! It's just not what we started this specific chain of challenges for.

Hope that makes sense. :)

Makes sense to me, Britt. Since we have so many eager scrappers, including myself, we can just try a second challenge and see how it goes. We can make a decision about whether we want them to be a regular addition to this board once we see how many people participate. I'll do the first one.... a recipe challenge. I'll post it up in a new thread in just a bit when DD goes down for her nap. It's so awesome that we have so many people interesting in participating over here! :thumbsup2

I agree with what Britt said. An additional challenge sounds good to me, too.

I personally love the Disney challenges because they inspire me. I like keeping them with the same theme to keep me working on my Disney album which is why I began doing the challenges. They are the only challenges I've ever done to date.

just my two cents.... :laundy:

I think this is the perfect solution! Thanks for hosting it DisneyCruiser2008!

PERFECT! I won't be playing as it is way over my head but I do love looking!
Can't wait to see what everyone creates.......just wish there was a step to thread......LOL! Even then I don't think I would get it!

I'm right there with ya Spinning. I made 1 digi-layout but I can't even get that off the place it's at in the computer to show anyone! LOL

I gave up. But it's a really cute page!

Since the discussion in the other thread continued here, I'm going to respond to something from there here

Okay, I wasn't orginally going to jump into this as I don't feel this particular thread should be turned into any debate. But it is making me slightly angry that it's turning into a slam on these challenges, which the majority of the participants really enjoy doing-

Way back when these were started the main purpose of this thread was to inspire us to get our Disney layouts done. For 21 weeks now this had been the underlying rule. This is really no different than any other challenge out there that specifies rules. Our rule is that it's Disney related. KWIM? :confused3

The purpose of the scrapbook forum (not this thread) is not restrictrive to just disney layouts or discussions, but everything. The simple solution for those who want non-Disney related challenges, is for those people to host one on these boards. I'm sure there would many of the same participants who join the Disney ones that would join. As many love a good digital challenge.

I don't think it is at all being non-disney like to continue with these challenges.

ITA. I honestly don't understand why, all of a sudden, a group of people have decided to blast the rules that have been in place for 5 months. No one has ever said a word about it before. I just don't get it.

I also feel like I was personally attacked a bit, by someone saying that it was "un-Disney like" to suggest that challenges at a Disney board should be Disney related.

I guess I just don't understand the concept of not having anymore Disney pics to scrap. ;) That won't happen for me until maybe 2050, and that's only if I stop going to Disney. :P But, that's the point of challenges, like Britt said in the other thread, to be CHALLENGED. If there's a challenge I don't think I can do because of the subject, or any of the rules, I just don't do it. I don't complain that I can't join in and want the rules completely changed.

I understand now there's going to be another challenge that has nothing to do with Disney pics, which is fine (though, again, you can get that anywhere.) I just wanted to get this off my chest because I'm one to let these things bother me too much when they shouldn't. ;)

I think we've found a perfect solution to the problem at hand. Thanks for taking the initiative and starting that up Christy.

Kswm - I was a little hurt too by the 'un-Disney' comment and how out of the blue this came too (especially as the original instigator of the challenges). But I'm trying my best not to take it personally. You and I know that we DIS gals are totally Disney-ish! Just try not to take that personally (I know its hard - being called un-Disney to people who love Disney as much as we do is like the ultimate insult :lmao: ). But they didn't mean us personally! :)

I LOVE YOU ALL!!

well, since I'm the one who said it... :) my feelings were hurt by being told that it was only for disney related pictures and then being told that there are many other boards that I could go find to do challenges on that weren't disney. I happen to like THIS board because you can find a little bit of everything on it, not just disney. I don't particularly want to have to look someplace else just because I don't have disney pictures. I've been on this board a long time and I like it. :) I've only recently discovered digi scrapping though, I have quite the supply room of paper and stuff... :) I'm perfectly happy to do the other challenge, it's nice to not have to leave the dis to do it. Thanks for that. :goodvibes maggie

I think the reason some were confused was because the Disney requirement was not in the last (current??) challenge and for new people coming in, they were not aware of the rules.

I would suggest posting the rules in each challenge or posting a link to the rules and mention something like "please read the rules before posting l/os. those rules can be found here _____"

and also maybe in the thread title say X digi challenge week 6 of 21.

As for the Disney pics, while I'm with you on having enough pics to last the next 50 years, some of the girls here only go like once every 5 years and get 200+ pages scrapped a month. I know, I know, they are crazy mad scrappers! Me, I'm lucky if I get 2 done!
But if you put those two things together then you can run out of Disney pics pretty quickly.

I think the best solution would definitely be to have 2 challenges going at the same time. Which I know was already started.

While we like to have people go to other sites to visit, we hope this is home to many if not all of you, so sticking to just Disney would lead to people go elsewhere and we don't want that!

We don't want that either Bianca. But we also feel like we have something special with our challenges and didn't want to change.

Maggie - we sure didn't mean to say you should go find other challenges elsewhere! no no no no! we were just saying that you can find non-disney challenges anywhere and that the Disney theme was what made ours special here.

The addition of the new challenges is the perfect solution! Glad we have come to it.

The moderators would like to remind you to be respectful when talking to or about other posters. Also, please bear in mind that the Creative Community is a place of INclusion, not EXclusion. Just as cooking discussions do not need to be only about Disney recipes or gardening discussions do not need to be only about Disney gardens, the scrapping board is not just about scrapping Disney photos.

While we like to have people go to other sites to visit, we hope this is home to many, if not all of you. Sticking to just Disney may lead to people go elsewhere and we don't want that! We have become a family here over the years and every year our family photo gets larger as we incorporate new sisters and brothers into the clan. Yes it gets a little squishy at times when you get stuck between Uncle Earl and Aunt B, but don't worry we'll make room for everyone. So please just have a little patience and respect as we work out the kinks for a new family photo for Grandpa Pete.

The Creative Community Moderating Team

Piratesmate - Are you saying the solution we came to is unacceptable to the moderators? I felt like we had all come to an agreement and then you confused me again.
:confused3

Just to speak in defense of these challenges. I have seen challenges on the Photography boards that are solely for Disney photos, in addition to other threads that are inclusive of all photos. I am heavily in favor of having the separate challenges so that all DIS'ers have the opportunity to participate in a challenge... and all can feel included. I have truly enjoyed these past several months of challenges, and would love to see our Disney themed challenges continue, in addition to an "all-inclusive" challenge.

Ditto Jenifer. That really is the perfect solution. I'm just confused about the reprimand after we already reached that solution. Just wanting to make sure its acceptable to the big wigs. It seems perfect to us though!

We don't want that either Bianca.

Maybe because it is 4:15 AM and I can't sleep, but I found this amusing. I have never in all my years on the DIS seen someone call BAMB, "Bianca" before.

Sorry for hijacking, back to your regular scheduled program;)

That's a good point, Jenifer... I LOVE checking out the Disney themed challenges on the photography board... They have them all the time. My favorite was the Disney Villains themed challenge.

I would never have gotten my DCL album *almost* completed had it not been for this board and the awesome challenges. :goodvibes

OMG! I agree! I am more of a lurker because I still consider myself a beginner when it comes to scrapbooking. I wouldn't know where to begin to get to the level of some people here.

I think Piratesmate was politely telling everyone to play nice & make room for/include new people, beginners, etc.

just keep working on it and you'll improve, hone, and change the way you scrap. My first pages were beyond scary!! LOL
But I read, listen, try new techniques, etc and I have learned a lot! I've even been known to lift a few digi pages here and there and convert them to traditional paper pages.

Yes, Piratesmate, Lewdyan1, and I are just trying to make this as friendly as a place as possible, we were writing something up at the same time Britt came up with the solution of doing 2 challenges. It was just a timing issue getting it out. All is good, I hope! And we can move forward from here.
