Hi- I have a question about availability. We are planning to buy via resale at either WLV or BLT, as a primary goal is to have easy access to MK. Our other main reason for buying is the ability to stay in a multi-room unit. We own HGVC and always stay in 2BR resorts when we travel. I realize travel habits change, but for the foreseeable future, we would want to book 2BR. Much of what I read on these forums is with regards to availability for studios and 1BR. I was curious if anyone had insight into how difficult it is to get a 2BR at WLV or BLT if it is your home resort. We plan ahead, would likely book early in the 11 month window, and would stay for a week at a time each year. Likely travel times are late October, early December, or late April (definitely non-Easter). Thanks!

If you are booking early in the eleven month window, the only problem you might have would be BLT STANDARD view - those go quickly regardless of room size. (DVCers seem to like their bargain rooms). And late October and early December are two of the peak DVC travel times.

But if any two bedroom at BLT would do and you own there, you won't have a problem if you book that early. And you won't have an issue at VWL. Wait a few months for travel at those times of year and things might get tighter.

Two bedroom lock-off units are made up of a 1 bedroom and a studio. If the studio portion is booked due to popularity, the 2 bedroom is removed from inventory.

Just a thought.

For BLT:
If you would be OK with any view, you will not have any trouble booking a 2 bedroom villa if you book when the 11 month window opens. Almost all of the time, you will even be able to book the standard and theme park views. Note that those categories do contain less villas than the lake view category and will book up more quickly. You should have no trouble getting a 2 bedroom in late April (in any category) at 11 months. As already mentioned, late October and early December are more popular times, so you occasionally may have to book lake view and waitlist if you want the standard or theme park categories.

For VWL:
As long as you book when the 11 month window opens, you will be able to book your 2 bedroom. It's possible (but not very likely) that you may have to waitlist for the early December dates.

Again and in summary, 11 month availability shouldn't be much of a concern for buying BLT & VWL if you are willing and able to book during your home resort priority.

I agree with crisis, you shouldn't have issues for those 2 resorts for a 2 BR if you plan at 11 months out. As a rule, the order of demand normally is studios, 3 BR, 2 BR then 1BR. Also as crisis noted, low cost options (AKV value, BWV standard, BLT & VGF standard) will tend to be more difficult as will specialty items like AKV concierge BCV 2 queen dedicated units.

As long as you can book 11 months out, you will not have a problem except potentially BLT standard view for times in Oct and early Dec. Early Dec is DVC's highest demand time of the year. October also has some very high demand times and as a month it is the second highest demand month behind Dec. Spring Break weeks including the two Easter weeks are low to moderate DVC demand times and even BLT standard view should be easy at 11 months out.

Today with no problem. I was up right when it came online but it is still available 5 hours later. I can't speak to it being available at 7 months but from what I hear it would be difficult, but certainly doesn't need to be 'walked' at 11 months.

To comment a little more on the availability of 2-bedroom units:

The room type popularity is as follows:

Grand Villas (because there are so few of them)
Studios (because they are cheapest)
2-Bedrooms
1-Bedrooms (Least popular because they are twice the cost of studios, but typically sleep the same # of people or 1 more)

As someone earlier pointed out, some 2-bedrooms are dedicated, while others are "lock-offs", which means they consist of a studio and a 1-bedroom with a door in between.

So, let's use the example of BLT, which has:
14 Grand Villas
148 dedicated 2-bedrooms
133 lockoff 2-bedrooms (which could be broken down to 133 studios and 133 1-bedrooms.

SO - if you owned there, the LARGEST inventory of rooms is actually the 2-bedrooms - of which there are 277. And there is an inventory of 144 rooms that can only be used as 2-bedrooms, even if all 133 lock-offs are booked as studios.

Most resorts are set up that way, which is a big reason why the 2-bedrooms are easier to get into than the studios.

Generally, getting a 2-bedroom at your home resort is easy enough to do, as others pointed out, you might have a hard time getting a standard room at BLT because they are cheaper.

I have had no trouble getting 2br lake view at BLT twice now at 7 months. 2nd week of Nov and last week of April. I'll be looking for 2nd week of Dec when the 7 month window opens this year.

We had no problem booking a 2 bedroom standard at BLT in late October this past fall (it still showed more availability for like a week or more after we booked) at the 11 month window.

I just booked a 1 bed standard at BLT and got basically the last one for our check in day and a 2 bedroom standard was still available (and was available even after the 1 beds were not in the days leading up) at the 11 month window.

Obviously this can vary based on the year, but I think most times you will even be fine getting a standard view as well.
