different birth cert. question!

My parents are cruising with us this time and don't have passports. I just checked their birth certificates. Mom's is from the state (certified) and has the raised seal. Dad is retired military and the one they have is some kind of free one they issue to people in the military. It is a form printed on green paper, but his information (name, birth date, mother's name, etc.) is all hand written. Up in the corner it is stamped "issued free on military status" and it does have a raised seal.
Has anyone used something like this? I was a little concerned because the info was handwritten.

Prior to going on our cruise this past June, I traveled into Boston to obtain a birth certificate for myself. When I received it, it was also hand written and with a raised seal, and was issued to me in 2002! As long as it is official and with a raised seal, I can't see why there should be a problem.

I agree if there is a raised seal of some type on the document, it is most likely good to go. Maybe you could check with the passport office or SSI to see if it an acceptable form with them, and then if it is, it is for sure good to use. I would hate to be unsure and find out differently once you are ready to board the ship.

I have my original BC with raised seal..no problems with using it last June for our cruise. Since this is the only copy I have, I had a local notary copy it and stamp it with her notary seal...she also wrote that this is a true and official copy of the original. I plan on taking my original BC (with raised seal) again next June, but was wondering if the copy from the notary was also acceptable?? As that I was adopted, it is difficult for me to obtain another certified copy from other sources....
