Different Airports, which is best?

We will be doing DL first then San Diego. Can you give me the scoop on the LA area airports? Which airports should we consider for departing San Diego?

Thanks.

We are also planning the same itinerary. We plan to fly into John Wayne Airport (Santa Ana) and departing from the airport in San Diego.

Is that what you are asking?

I would price it 2 ways -- Arriving in SNA (Orrange County) and leaving from San Diego. I would also try round trip to/from SNA. If the price was close I would chose the first option.

Have fun!

If you have small children flying with you, I would try to avoid flying OUT of San Diego. The security area is the worst for getting everything back together when you're trying to corral your kid(s). The area is tiny and if you lean over to tie your shoes, you block most people behind you, and last I went there were only three chairs to sit on. And the security line rivals the Space Mountain queue in the summer, going back and forth and back and forth.

I love visiting my brother in SD, but I hate flying home from there!

I will mention that I fly Southwest so there might be other security lines for those traveling on other airlines, I don't know.

I have flow into Ontario and SNA. ONT was cheaper, but getting to DLR was very expensive via Super Shuttle. SNA was more expensive in general, but super shuttle was a quarter the cost as from ONT. In addition, the Grayline Anaheim Disneyland Express bus was available from SNA (and LAX) but not from ONT.

Will you be renting a car? If so, be sure to check that you can rent in Anaheim and drop off in SD, and make sure the price is OK for you. If you don't want to rent in Anaheim, I've been intrigued by the SurfLiner train from Anaheim to San Diego. I figure you could take a taxi from the train station to the hotel, or get a rental around there... We always have my brother as our little SD shuttle service, so I don't know much about getting around SD, sorry!

I hope others have more info for you!

Will you be renting a car?

yes, we are renting a car. So shuttle service won't matter I was just wondering how far considering traffic the various airports are to DL. Orange County doesn't do nonstop from Nashville (Southwest), so I think that is out. LAX seems to be the cheapest and Ontario was the same price. I didn't know if one had an advantage over the other. We will be traveling with me, DH, and 3 small kids.

You also might seriously consider the Long Beach Airport (LGB). It's small, easy to get into & out of. It's about the same distance from Disneyland as is John Wayne Airport (SNA--Orange county). Good luck on your search.

Our favorite airport to fly into and out of is Long Beach (LGB). I've only flown into SNA once and I remember really liking it as well but we are able to fly cheaper on Jet Blue by flying into Long Beach. The thing I loved about it is that we (2 adults and 3 kids ages 2-9) got off our plane, picked up our luggage, picked up our rental car, drove into Anaheim, stopped and got breakfast at Mimi's Cafe, checked into our hotel (room wasn't ready but they held our luggage for us and called us when it was) and were walking through Disneyland in less than two hours from the time our flight landed. We don't fly into any other airport for Disney anymore. Although, my dad swears by SNA so I don't think you can go wrong either way.
Good Luck!
