Hi,

Can anyone give me the basic rundown on the different campsites? I've looked on disney's site and they don't really tell you, they just have pictures. I see they have Full Hookup, Preferred and Premium.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Amy,
The campsites are a great way to stay at Disney, and, in my opinion, it is the best resort on property because it offers you an affordable way to stay while also having a feeling of "home" to it.

There are four categories of campsites at FW, premium, preferred, full-hookup, and partial.

The Premium Site is billed as "big-rig" friendly. They accommodate RVs larger than 45 feet in length and those that have multiple slide outs. The sites are wide (some up to 24 ft), and deeper (up to 60 ft) meaning they have a larger, level-paved pad. They also feature all of the amenities - water, power, sewer, and cable. Tent campers can use premium sites, but since they have a full pad with no sand area at all, unlike the preferred, full, and partial, it can be impossible to find a place to put in tent stakes. The actual size and shape of each site "will depend on Mother Nature", as Disney likes to say.

Preferred sites means those that are located near the Settlement Trading Post, Pioneer Hall, and marina areas. They have water, power, sewer, and cable.

The Full-Hookup sites are in loops 1600, 1700, 1800, and 1900 have all the hookups and a tent pad. Their location more or less not close to any of the main locations in the Fort, but they are very nice and I would have no problems staying on them.

Loops 1500 and 2000 are the partials and are great for tents and small campers and offer everything except for sewer.

Fort Wilderness also has an area called Creekside Meadow: it is a primitive campsite area and is usually used by boy scouts and other groups.
Here is a basic list of the sites and their category and if they are pet friendly or not.

Loop 100 - Preferred
Loop 200 - Preferred
Loop 300 - Preferred (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 400 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 500 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 600 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 700 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 800 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 900 - Premium (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 1000 - Premium
Loop 1100 - Premium
Loop 1200 - Premium
Loop 1300 - Premium
Loop 1400 - Premium
Loop 1500 - Partial
Loop 1600 - Full (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 1700 - Full (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 1800 - Full (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 1900 - Full (Pet friendly loop)
Loop 2000 - Partial

Hope this helps

What!? Me...an Ed?!

Nah, I'll stick to the squirrels. Let the man enjoy his time in Europe.

But...after that...he's back on the job.

All the above is great advice. And depending on your unit you may not have an issue with any of the grades of sites. I personally like the preferred loops and the 300 to be exact. But with the new 5er even the 300 can be a bit tight. Premiums are of course great in size and I had already decided that when I take Caren and her children for the "kid" trip, to be separate from the "adult" trip (all adults and a lot more bars involved) that I would go with the premium loop. Our trip to Luray this year she is gaining experience spotting me but still doesn't think she wants to spot me into a 300 loop site. I am ok with that since the Kid trip has to deal with school schedules and I am siding with the premiums either 400 or 500 loop. Considered the 600 but I prefer being closer to the dog park and the other two seem to be the compromise for distance to the park and the pool.

Are there some premium sites that have enough sand for a small tent in addition to the big rig?

LaLinda,

Some Premiums have space off the pads and some don't.

It can be hit-and-miss. If you are planning to use it for storage I think you can put one almost anywhere. A tent can also go on the concrete if it is self-supporting (doesn't HAVE to be staked down). Just put "stuff" in it to keep it from blowing away and I would put some plastic between the tent and concrete to protect the tent material - something like a thick clear painters drop cloth.

Ed is right on the hit or miss. I know I had site 1446 and there was plenty of room at the rear of the site, but site 420 had no room for one.

I get to check in on Wednesday :D! I'm so excited to go back to the Fort!!! The last time we stayed there was in '96, but it was in the Cabins. We were close to the other pool (the loop right across the way).

My question is, should I try to get the 2000 loop or the 1500 loop? Is there a trail from the 2000 loop to the Meadows?

My suggestion, cindygirl, would be to try for 1500.

If you end up with 2000, you still have a short cut to the Trading Post and Camp Fire area. Try to get a site on the outside of the circle near the back Comfort Station (2000 has two CS). IIRC those sites are in the high 30's or 40's numbers (2040, 2042, etc.) Make sure it is on the outside of the circle.

The reason you want outside/backside is that area backs up against the group campsite, Creekside Meadow. The Comfort Station for Creekside Meadow is immediately behind the outside/backside sites of loop 2000. From the back of your campsite, walk to the back of the Creekside Meadow Comfort station and go past the right side of it. Toward the back of the group campsite over a little sandy rise is a wooden footbridge (my bike fit over it too) across a ditch that comes out into loop 900 which is directly across from the Trading Post.

It's a convenient short cut.

Ed is right about the bridge at Creekside, we used it alot last year. If you do end up in the 2000 loop, if they assign you site 2040, try to get a different site. When we where there it was very unlevel. The bridge also had walk way lights on it for night time use.

The sites up against the main road (1501-1504 and the last sites 1520-1521 get some bus noise (1500 is shaped like a lollipop with a short stick).

IMO any site in 1500 is better than then best site in 2000.

It's that simple.

Bama Ed

PS - I may be off on the exact number above but the point is the same. The sites on the circle of the lollipop nearest the stick get the most bus noise. That being said, the Comfort Station in 1500 is between 1503 and 1504 or thereabouts so close in some cases.

1501 - 1504 has advantages and disadvantages opposite of each other. Disadvantages are bus noise and even hearing individuals go to the close by Comfort Station. Advantages are close to the bus stop and the comfort stations. If you have children that have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night the short walk to the Comfort Station is a huge advantage.
