Difference between Toy Story Midway Mania & Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin?

What is the difference between these two rides? They basically seem like they're the same ride, are they?

In Buzz Lightyear you're shooting a laser at targets. Most times you have no idea what you're shooting at. You just see a bunch of random red dots all over the room with no idea which one's yours. Was probably cool when it first opened but these days it pales in comparison to Toy Story.

In Toy Story Mania you're wearing 3d glasses and shooting different computer generated projectiles at different targets. Very entertaining and you know exactly which shots are yours. You actually feel like you have some control over your score.

I'm confused, which one is which?

In Buzz you are shooting with lasers and have no clue which is yours - frustrating and your hand gets tired (or mine does)

in TSM you can tell exactly what you are shooting - it's 3D and is SO MUCH FUN!!

We rarely (as in once every 4 trips) ride Buzz - TSM is a must do multiple times per trip - once we rode it 8 times before 11 am (it was bucketing rain - only stopped because DD and DH said their arms were tired!)

Midway Mania is the 3-d glasses ride. Light-years above Buzz Lightyear.

You compete for high scores, that's about where the similarities end.

TSM is slick and engaging for just about everyone, 3D, quickly changing game play.

Buzz is much more old school.

The comparison between XBox One with Atari comes to mind.

On Buzz, you control the spin of the vehicle to aim at targets to get points.
On TSMM, the rider has no control of the movement of the vehicle, it's timed and moves from stop to stop in front of targets to shoot and gain points.

Along with what has already been said, on Buzz Lightyear you have to control your own car. It moves forward on it's own; but you have to turn towards the target yourself and they tend to be on both sides of you whereas on TSM, it is all done for you and you are aiming at one area. We enjoy both; but always want to go right back on TSM. You do use more physical energy on TSM because you are pulling back on your launcher as opposed to pushing a button to shoot the lasers on Buzz.

ETA: there is also a souvenir photo available on Buzz for purchase or load to your Memory Maker. No photo on TSM.

The difference is really technology. TSM is a lot more accurate but Buzz is a lot of fun because you can drive your kids crazy spinning the car away from where they want to shoot... or maybe that's just me. :)

The only ways they are alike is 1) they both feature Toy Story characters and 2) they both involve target shooting.

With all that we enjoyed Buzz a lot more - maybe because the ride wasn't stopped every few feet for loading issues the way TSMM was and we never got the full effect? What should have been a?5-7 minute ride took nearly 20 minutes. And we never had to wait in line for Buzz- to ride over and over. for a kid who likes video games this was heaven to my son

we like Buzz better, too, because we can ride it so many times. Riding TSM is so much work, hahaha. Either wait forever or middle-of-the-night fastpass booking or getting to HS at the crack of dawn. :) Buzz? You can ride again and again and again!

you dont have to get up till midnight to book FP+ for TSMM. There is availability right now for tomorrow.

This. The only things you need to book as soon as your window opens are Elsa & Anna and (sometimes) 7DMT.

My husband prefers Buzz so much more - he likes that he has more control over the ride vehicle and that there seems to be much more strategy involved. I like the theming and games TSMM has but don't care for the jerky motions and really don't like how much effort it takes to ride it without a very long wait.

I really enjoy them both, but I can only do Toy Story once per day because it makes my hand REALLY tired pulling that little string over and over. The laser gun on Buzz doesn't bother me.

Buzz was very frustrating because we could hardly ever find the target red dot and it just seemed like we had hardly any, if any at all, control over where we were shooting! We didn't get many points at all and even wondered if it was working right. And the shooter thing was all loose and wobbly. I'd love to go on tsm over a few times, but I agree, my hand definitely starts to hurt!
