Difference between Memory Maker and Photopass Archive

Ok, hope I can help you out :). I'm pretty excited about hopefully getting a 7DMT video.

Yes, how fun! I don't do ToT or RnR coaster, I'm not that wild about the thrill rides, so I was happy to learn there would be something for 7DMT. Since MM+ has the thrill ride pix, I was thinking of doing Space Mt, EE, and Dinosaur, which I don't do, we'll see I'm particularly nervous about EE. I am such a chicken. :lmao:

When I was there this summer, they added the dining pictures to my magic band and did not ask if we had MM....that was before they stopped trying to sell the photos at the meal.

That is true. You can download any edited photos. This will not work if the edits are done on someone else's account. ONLY the edits done on the account of the person who OWNS the MM will be able to be downloaded.

Regular PP still uses the cards. You can also have a regular card added to your account to be used with MM- they give these types of cards out at JTA and ETWB also.

This is a relief! :dance3: I'm really glad to know it. I don't think my niece will be doing edits, but I certainly will!

A non-sequiter response, but keep in mind if you do have MM, while you can add PP photos to any MB linked to your MDE account, you can only add ride photos to the MB linked to the primary owner of the MDE account or the MM RFID card itself. Since I'm the primary owner of the MDE account, I use my MB and give my wife the MM card.

That goes against everything I've read about MM. Everything I've read says that anyone on the Friends and Family list of the owner of the MM entitlement gets their pictures added to the account. The MM card should only be needed by someone staying offsite.

Not the same thing as what I said, so we are both right -- you can add PP photos from anyone linked to your MDE, but you need the actual MM to receive (free) ride photos (since without an MM added to your account they cost money to add a digital photo to your MB). Since the actual MM is only linked to the actual MDE account holder and the physical RFID card, you need the MB linked to the same MDE as the MM --or-- the physical MM card. YMMV.

Just got back from a trip using MM for the first time. Wanted to address several questions here. Everything linked to our bands perfectly. Had set DH up as able to use/view our MM account so either one of us were able to scan at PP locations, and both of our ride photos/videos showed up automatically in my account.

Also, linked 2 regular PP cards to the account with no problem (one from ETWB and once where their MB reader wasn't working).

We received printed photos at CRT and Akershus, but at Tusker House they just showed up in our account.

The archive photo disc is still an option to order for $29.99 and includes all original and edited photos. (Cannot find the option to order a personal archive disc anymore though?)

Any other questions, let me know and I'm happy to answer!

No matter what I do I can't find the $119 price for the disc either. I used to have direct links, now they all take me to a MM page. I tried adding it to my cart, still shows as $169. :/

Seems like pre-ordering MM is better if you can't get the $119 price anymore. Why pay $169 and not have ride photos?

I've been told many times that the CD is no longer available. The cheapest option appears to be MM buying it before your trip which is $149. Why the PP is $169 and gives you less stuff baffles me, other than they don't want to just close PP all together but they are modifying your behavior to want MM more. Cheaper and more photos, seems like a no brainer.

Is something you have to do? I thought that any magic band linked in your MDE could be used for MM??

There is nothing that needs to be done...all the bands are connected as long as everyone is linked/on your MDE account. Maybe the poster and her husband have separate MDE accounts? For us, we're all on one account (mine) so anyone in our party could scan their bands without doing anything more.

Also, FYI...for our last trip, I was able to order the Photopass Archive CD at the pre-trip discount in mid-August, and that option was taken away two days later (it's no longer available). It was a short trip, the only ride with photo we were going to do was Splash, we don't normally get ride photos anyway, and we elected to save the $30 by buying the CD vs. Memory Maker.

When the CD came the Splash ride photos were included on it, even though we didn't buy them separately and even though we didn't have Memory Maker! All of our photos from CRT (the one we got a hard copy of, plus all the other ones the Photopass photographer took) were all on there as well.
So, if anyone has a leftover Archive CD pre-purchase credit out there, you might want to consider going ahead and using it and not upgrading to Memory Maker. It looks like all the Memory Maker elements get thrown on the CD!

Same thing here. We got in on the Photopass Archive Dis before it was eliminated and used it on our trip this past August. All our ride photos ended up on the disk. They didn't how online when I did my edits so I didn't know but they were on our disk. A nice surprise. I guess it happened because I ordered it before they eliminated it but when I actually used it the option was gone.

It wasn't a no brainer for us. We had thought of buying MM, but waited too late to get the discount. In the end, I'm glad we did! We could still have bought the PP for $169 after we got home and there was a 20% discount that was good until a few days ago bringing it to about the same price as MM. However, the weather was awful and we got very few good pictures. Now there's a discount on singles so we'll just pick up the few that we really liked.

I look at the archive as insurance against not getting enough good photos to make it worth buying. We don't care about the videos or ride pics, so I'd rather wait and be sure I need it. There's always a discount that pops up before it would expire it seems. We would've wasted close to $100 considering what we'll actually spend on the specific photos we want.

Okay, so you can wait until after to buy PP at $169 but if you wait until after with MM it's $199 right? So you might pay an extra $20 but only if you don't waste $149? HAHA! Yeah, I'm getting that... Thanks this makes sense.

We've always gotten PP and now MM since it came out. We also take our own 400 pictures. :rotfl2:

That's pretty much how it works. ;)

I wish they'd offer a smaller photo package rather than a buy all or each individually, but you get what they offer I guess.

Thank you, cakebaker! That helps so much! :thumbsup2
