Difference between front and back seat on Space Mountain

I found out that in the very front seat of each car, I get banged around so much more in term of the middle bar in there. Now I only sit in the middle or back of the car so I can stretch my legs out on either side - much less painful (I have very long legs). I never really noticed either being rougher, just the way I had to sit made it harder for me.

I am tall too, I can't believe I forgot to mention the other reason why I don't like to sit in the front row, I really hate it when my legs are squished and I feel like I am on a kiddy ride. DH has the same problem, but for some reason the front car doesn't bother him as much so the girls and him fight out who sits in the front :rotfl:.

I rode SM the first and only time in the back. I knew there were differences between the SM at WDW and the one at DLR, but I was not prepared for the pain. My back was killing me when I got off. It was the first time I ever felt old on a ride. I just wanted it to be over-- and I LOVE the DLR version, esp. since the update.

Edit: and now I'm remembering my neck hurt from being snapped around, as well. I honestly thought I had whiplash. We are there in three days, and I was considering riding it again. Until this thread. ha ha.

Awww...I hope I didn't cause you to re-think space mountain........I love the ride....I was just wondering if anyone felt they had a different ride experience based on the seat they ride in. So I'm guessing the middle is the safest unless your tall........

The back is a rougher ride, but your view is partially blocked by the rider in front of you.
The front is smoother, but you see everything.

I agree that the very back seat is rougher, but as mentioned by pp I hate sitting in the very front car because I have long legs. I just cannot get comfortable and end up twisting my body or holding myself too rigid - then coming upon a sudden dip or fast turn. That's not a good combination for a middle aged woman who's had a child, if some of you know what I mean? ;)

I like the middle the best - not too rough but not super scary because although you're closer to the front, you can still kind of feel the turns and drops coming.

My husband and I both agree:

The front seat of Space Mountain is terrifying. To be sure, it's a smoother ride than the back (more on that in a moment), but it felt like I was going to hit every single vague outline of track and beam coming at me- not to mention being completely unable to see what's coming (you can kind of tell with people in front of you). I adore roller coasters and have never been so frightened on one before. The adrenaline was pretty good, though, and it's not scary enough that I wouldn't ride up front again! :)

The back seat on the other hand was awful, as other people say. Never again. I've never been so violently jostled and whipped about and banged up before!
