Just wondering what differences in terms of services there are compared to a regular Disney hotel room? Someone mentioned something about not missing housekeeping? What types of food options are there? Restauraunts, counter service, etc.? Refillable mugs? And whatever else someone can think of....

:smooth:

The answer to that question depends on what DVC hotel you are talking about. Some DVC hotels are connected to a regular non-DVC hotel and it can be assumed they get the same level of service.

So at the ones that are connected you still get all the usual services. How about the ones that are not connected?

DVC reservations when made on points (either yours or rented) do not include housekeeping as it does at a regular hotel room. There is trash & towel on day 4 and a full cleaning on day 8. You can add daily housekeeping for an additional charge.

As for food etc:

Villas of Wilderness Lodge - you have the same options as the Wilderness Lodge which means counter service, and two sit-down resturants.

Beach Club Villas - you have all the options of the Yacht/Beack club plus the Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin which are all nearby.

Boardwalk Villas - you have all the same options as the Beach Club since they are right across from each other.

Old Key West - There is Olivia's which is a sit-down and Goods to Go which is take-out. I believe there is also a snack bar by one of the pools.

Saratoga Springs - There is Artist Palette which is counter service. You are also very close to Downtown Disney and all of their food options.

The other thing that all DVC resorts have is a food section in their gift shops. You can buy milk, pop, beer, frozen foods, pizza, etc. to have in your room. You can also pre-order groceries (for a fee) and have them delivered to your room. Or you can make a grocery run.

Hope this helps.

Mousekeeping is probably the biggest difference in DVC vs. hotels. At DVC they come around every 4 days for trash and towel service. And we like it this way. At first it was a little odd but as time went on it became good for us. We arent disturbed every morning and we dont feel like we have to leave the room so they can do their job. So if we arent dressed and ready to go to a park by lunch, no big deal. Mousekeeping will bring you things if you run out or need a extra pillow or something. Same with maint. You wont be disturbed unless you call.

VWL I know for sure has 2 sitdown restaurants and a fast food counter. Also a bar inside and 1 by the pool. I think the same is true of BCV and BWV. These are all tied in with other hotels. HH and VB Im not sure. We have never been to these before.

OKW is not affiliated with other hotels but they do have same services. Only difference I see at OKW is they dont have counter service at main bldg. Most counter services are close to pools and seem to close a little earlier than the one at VWL.

Hope this helps some

Please remember, DVC is TIMESHARE not a hotel! Don't expect hotel services at a timeshare. I think DVC has far more hotel like services than many timeshares do.

No DVC resort offer daily maid service, unless you wish to pay extra for it.
All DVC resorts connected to a hotel, have the exact same services available to guests, as all the WDW deluxe resorts have.
The DVC resorts not connected to a hotel, do not have services such as valet parking and room service.

We're new to DVC and stayed for the first time on points. My biggest concern was the housekeeping issue. My wife refers to me as a "neat freak".

Surprisingly I didn't miss housekeeping at all. We picked up and made the bed before we left in the AM and it didn't seem any different than when we would stay and have housekeeping.

One additional difference between a hotel room at Disney and a DVC room is the bed situation. Only one queen size bed and a pull out sofa in most of the studios. I was worried about this one too but it turned out that we liked it more than two beds. Even in a studio it gave the kids a place to pull out all there toys and play. At night or nap time we picked up the toys, pulled out the sofa and had two beds. Although I didn't sleep on it, I was surprised at how comfortable the sofa bed was (at least in room 3059 at Boardwalk!:) )
