Diez (10) Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 de abril 2011 (4.17.11 Wonder!)

Now it's really real!! We did get an upgrade from 11c to 11b and that's perfect didn't expect any balcony (won't be in there much). I call my sister, Karen, and they are next door. :woohoo: :woohoo: :jumping1:

Now I have to go back and read todays posts. Got so excited!! :rolleyes1

YIPEEE!!!!!!!!! Congratulations. :cool1:

We got an upgrade!!!!! I can't believe it, first one ever and I was really really hoing for one!!! Here's to PIXIE DUST!!!! I'M SO EXCITED I COULD SCREAM!!

OK these little shout outs of excitement are getting me totally revved up!

YEAH!!! Can you believe it!! It's movin' so quick now!!

How about the $300 I am spending to board my dog for 12 nights. Yikes, I think Brennan cost just a tad bit more than that for the cruise. That is where my dolphin excursion money is going to, THE DOG!

You mean your dog is going to the spa for his vacation. For that price you should get a housesitter. :thumbsup2

Right-on!! I so know what your talkin' 'bout! Hoping everyone else is getting some pixie dust too!! :cool1:

Same here! Except for that price we have someone stay at the house.

I'm not entirely new to DCL, but it's been a few years since we've cruised. What is the rush in getting to the ports so early? Am I missing something? Other than the chance of getting an upgrade, what would be the reason to get there at nine or ten? (I should have asked this last week, before purchasing out plane tickets, cuz I bet I AM missing something, and an going to have to change the plane tickets!!!)

~Jennifer
I think we all are just really excited to start our DCL vacation!!! I have never inquired about an upgrade at port but it seems that the magic starts the earlier you get to the port. Even if we do just stand around for hours...at least we will be able to chat with each other.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the Welcome. What I meant about only being $95 is that we don't have other expenses like flights, or any transportation/parking fees or which we have always had before. Yes our points did cost us money but what deal for us to not even have to fly. I am excited that the ship is here!

My step-dad is one of the train engineers for the Disneyland Rail Road. They are steam powered trains with a fire and all in the front. My DD LOVES riding up front with him and waving at all the people.

Club 33 is a VERY expensive and exclusive club. I have only been up there once and have not ever eaten there. Just to get up there was a huge ordeal. We had to wait until she could escort us up the elevator. The door to the restaurant is a green door with a 33 on it or beside it and that's it. The restaurant is above Pirates of the Caribbean.

We live in Fullerton.

I hope that answers all the questions.

:)

Wow so much to catch up on. We must all be getting excited or something:yay::yay:!!

On naps... DD is always up when the sun comes up no matter where we are... East Coast, Europe, Hawaii. So, I found it a blessing that we had an interior stateroom on a couple of our cruises because she'd sleep until we tell her it's time to get up.

Connie,[/B] I'm using my office laptop, no access to photos here, but on FB you can grab one (Kel Fox) or if I can remember, I'll logon from home and shoot you one!

Got your photo up on the website!

Thanks Kristi and Helen for the cake idea for Jazmin's bday. I'll have to put a cake order on my TO DO list, and bring Dollar Tree decor for the room, etc. Maybe bring some to dinner.
I think someone else mentioned it. You can order a birthday celebration package from DCL. We did this for DD's 7th birthday and there was a cake and birthday decorations up by the time we get to our room on embarkation. You can decorate yourself for less but we opted for the convenience of it being there the first time we walked into the room.

.
Sounds like we have the makings of a real party up on 6. Connie (Travelbee)and I will be just a few doors down from you and MommaFox except I'll be adding 2 rambunctious boys to the mix. :goodvibes
The more the merrier! :banana::banana:

We did the dolphins in Cabo on our 2008 cruise. The facility is modern, clean, and very convenient (an easy 5 minute walk from the dock). Another advantage is if it's just the kids going in, you can go for free and watch as opposed to booking a $35 or so (per adult) dolphin "observer" package (basically a bus ride) in PV. It also appeared the dolphins were well cared for at the Cabo facility. One thing to be aware of though is they generally don't let you take your own camera near the pool so you have to buy their photos is you want any. They were expensive, but I must admit they were pretty awesome and you can get them on CD to print multiple copies at home. We're tentatively booked again this time for the Dolphin Kids package for the girls.

I can't speak directly about the PV facility as I've never been, but there are many reports in other threads or other sites. Just search for PV dolphins. PV also has sea lions if that interests you, although from what I saw when I used to work at Sea World, they don't smell very good. Hope that helps.
Ditto on Double Trouble's response. I love the Cabo facility and they took great photos. My only tip is if you can get in the same group as another family, you can share the CD. I can't remember how much it cost but it ended up being around $8 or $9 per photo - which is a lot less than paying for hard copies (something like $25 each).

Travelbee (Connie), I hope you enjoyed the skiing...sounds like fun! Our kids just started lessons this winter so they don't quite have the ski legs for deep powder yet. Maybe the girls can do Wii Ski together in the Lab (when they're not cranking up the "party" or pretending to be Taylor Swift anyway).

Thanks for all your hard work setting up the website and getting us added in. I'll send a PM (once I get 10 posts) or email with our info by Monday.

"Sleepin' L8" pirate: of Double Trouble
Thanks for the compliments on the website... really it's mostly just click and drag! I've updated your info (plus MiniCoops & MBoys) on the website.
We're not powder skiers but even packed powder is so much better just after a snow storm! We have the Wii ski, I'd have to dig it for DD to practice so the girls can it play together! DD loves karaoke... may they can meet up at Studio Sea for some sing-a-thon?

Hello,

I am a newbie! I have read through some of this thread but 127 pages is hard to get through.

I am Jill (41) my DH is Phil (45) and our DD Rachel is 8. This is our third Disney Cruise. We live in Southern California so we are excited that we don't have to pay for flights, parking or even a hotel! My parents are dropping us off at the port. :)We are Disney Vacation Club Members and so far it has only cost us $95.00 for the cruise.
Welcome! You're added to our roll call. Check out the website when you have a chance. http://april-17-2011-mexicanriviera.weebly.com/ You've definitely come to the right place. This group is filled with DD8s! As a matter of fact, the reason I stumbled across the Disboards was because I was trying to find DD (being an only child) a friend to hang out with on one of our cruises.

How about the $300 I am spending to board my dog for 12 nights. Yikes, I think Brennan cost just a tad bit more than that for the cruise. That is where my dolphin excursion money is going to, THE DOG!
Same here... the gal we use charges $20 per visit  so it's $40 a day. We're contemplating at leaving our dog at the groomer (who gives the dogs free reign) but then we'd still need someone to check on the cat...

There's really no rush. To me, getting there early is important only if you couldn't get your Palo or Spa reservations online and need to do it on Embarkation day. That said, it is probably the only time you'll find the pool not crowded too.

Now it's really real!! We did get an upgrade from 11c to 11b and that's perfect didn't expect any balcony (won't be in there much). I call my sister, Karen, and they are next door. :woohoo: :woohoo: :jumping1:

We got our room assignments today also!! No upgrade for us but I LOVE the location and they put our rooms right next to eachother!:banana: Wahoo!! Now I am ready to go!!:thumbsup2 Congrats to those that got there room assignments with upgrades!

We're doing the morning Swim. Would be interested into looking a sharing a CD. :thumbsup2

Okay this is my first time doing an FE, so all the information I have is from reading the boards extensively. It seems like anything goes for the gifts. Most people just give small little trinkets--dollar store, Oriental Trading Company, Target dollar section, etc. Some people make little goody bags with candy (since we are there at Easter you could go with that theme), some people are super crafty and make cool gifts and give one per cabin. You can do them however you want, anything goes. Some people give one gift per cabin, some give one for the adults to share and individual for the kids, some give every person individual gifts. I have heard of people giving cute magnets, magnet calendars, personalized pens, silly bandz, trinkets from their hometown, personalized cd's, picture frames, cup cozy's, just about anything you can think of. I don't think the FE's should break the bank. I would spend no more than a $1 or 2 per person.

Thanks Krisiti....this helps a bunch. We are still working out if we are doing both or one group. Was not sure on adults but we think we got kids covered in our budget. We will PM you once we figure out.

Also, realize I forgot to give you $$$ when we met at museum for wristbands. I had it but starting talking IT stuff with Kevin and forgot. We can paypal or pay the day of or something else. Just let Ann know (this is her department).

Does anyone remember what the concensus was on the lanyards? Is the group doing these too? If so, we want 4. I lost track a while back on these.

I also called DT this morning to get rate information, thinking it would be pretty convenient to stay the night before. I asked about the Catalina rate, the Government rate, the Union Member rate and AAA rate. WELL...it's almost full for that date already (what, it's only February!) and the rooms that are left start at around $220 for the night. :scared1: Fuggetaboudit, I'll drive on over and see y'all in the morning.

Wow, well that deal went quickly. Guess I'm back to getting someone to give us a ride. The Sunday isn't a problem it's more the return trip. I'm sure it will come together.

I don't think your missing anything if you don't get there early. For us it's just the excitement. We get there early and the boys can go straight to the pool and if I'm lucky I can go straight to the spa. :goodvibes

Yes, it looks so far like the main consensus was to do both wrist bands and lanyards. The poll is still open on the main site if people want to select their favorite. Personally I was waiting for the FE list to close so that I can move on to the next thing.

Perhaps we will close the polls on the 15th which I believe is when the Secret Mickey list closes as well. For those of you that are new be sure to check the polls and SM page on Connie's website to see if you want to join in on any of that stuff as well.

I have only posted 2 times and it says I have to post 10 times to pm.

That sounds great. I will have to post more to pm you back

Hi Jill. Welcome to the boards. Here is a little trick.:cool2:

Go to the Test board and post several "test" posts. These test posts count toward your number of posts. You should be able to PM after getting to 10.

The URL to Test board is below:

Hi Virdis, no worries at all about doing the full or half group. Whenever you decide, just shoot me a PM. Also I have not collected any money for the bands yet. Waiting for them to come in. When they do I will post a picture and let people know they can Paypal or just pay me on the ship. I am not worried. You and Kevin start talking all IT and getting carried away :rotfl2: At least he has someone who understands him to talk to. It is all a different language to me.

Helen and anyone else interested in the DoubleTree San Pedro. Go directly to their site to book, they still have the Catalina package for $159. Looks like all they have left is King beds, but there are still rooms available. Also, you do not have to pay immediately. They give you the regular 24 hour before the stay cancellation policy.

I am trying to tie up the FE lists this week and get them sent out. I sent out a bunch of PM's tonight to get some missing information.

Does anyone know how to attach an Excel spreadsheet in a PM? I wonder if it can be done. I am now wondering how to get my spreadsheet out to the participants.

Jill, so glad to have join our meet. Your daughter will have a blast on DCL. The ship has all the magic of Disney but so much more relaxing then Disneyland. We love the steam train. I just found out that you can make reservations to ride in the Lilly Belle. Will have to do that next time we are at the park.

Hey guys, since I keep reading how Mexico's beaches will be packed with locals on this holy holiday-time, I'm getting concerned that hopping in a taxi to/from somewhere may be more difficult than when we were there in November. I'm thinking of getting Don and I booked on an excursion for Puerta Vallarta, there is a kayaking one through the link on our website...anyone doing an excursion through these people? Anyone up for kayaking? http://www.puertovallartatours.net/kayaking.htm 10:00 am-3:30pm for $67.50, about a mile total of kayaking (not straight, you are sight seeing). Anyone?
Ya know, the kayaking one through DCL is similarly priced, but it goes to the stinky bird (from what I've read) islands. Might be easier.

Also, Manzanillo...there still is a challenge. Hmm. Maybe I'll wander off the ship and try to book my family last minute on something. I don't want a city tour, but also don't want to spend $400 for a family of four to hang out at a resort when the ship is practically a resort. Hmm.

Sounds like a plan! BTW - those who have expressed interest in the SM, please go to the website (http://april-17-2011-mexicanriviera.weebly.com/sm.html and fill out the form so your SM will have a better idea of what you may like... Also, this is not limited to the posters, your DH/DW are welcome to do the SM too!

Does anyone know how to attach an Excel spreadsheet in a PM? I wonder if it can be done. I am now wondering how to get my spreadsheet out to the participants.
Kristi, I can put the spreadsheet on the website. Just email me the file and I'll upload it.

Kel, the kayaking sounds fun in PV. We will be trying our hands at the zip lines. Can't wait to hear about everyone's adventures in port.

For Manzanillo a few of us are going to try for the Tesoro Resort. $29/adult $15/child 6+. So for your family of four would be $75 all inclusive. Same for us, since 2 kids would be free. They are supposed to have an excellent beach and a waterslide for the kids. However, we won't know if they will sell us a day pass until a few days before we sail. They said if they have 80%+ occupancy they don't sell the day passes. Now, if they are full I have no idea what we are going to do. Maybe get off the ship and see what tour operators are offering. I heard there is a neat turtle sanctuary nearby where the kids can release the babies.

Kristi, I can put the spreadsheet on the website. Just email me the file and I'll upload it.

I will send you a mail.
