Hi all,

I wondered if any of you can recomend some good resturants where the food is rather lowfat.

Or some low fat meals that you have had at wdw.

This will be my 5th visit to wdw and I'm sooooooo looking forward to it.

In the last month or so I have managed to lose nearly a stone in weight, but I always, always, always put on at least half a stone when im there.

I'm planning to have lots of fruit for breakfast and then a light lunch and healthy evening meal.

I know its my holiday and I should 'let my hair down ' as such and I will treat myself. We are stopping at Boardwalk again and I can hear the carrot cake calling my name from the bakery already. I just don't want to undo all the good work I have done before hand.

Some of my fav resturants at wdw are Rainforest cafe, Boma, planet hollywood and the Hollywood and Vine along with the Japanese tepenyaki table at epcot.

We are also doing the cruise for 3 nights and I have decided that that will be the time when I have pudding after my main meal.

Any tips, advice or comments will be appreiciated !!

Thanks

Hubby and I are trying to lose weight also...we are doing it the Atkins way, and we have no trouble finding food to eat at WDW, or anywhere else for that matter. Even if we go out to eat, the weight just keeps pouring off.

most counter service restaurants offer a healthy side. It may not be on the menu so just ask. For instance many of the counter service restaurants will substitute baby carrot sticks for french fries.

I work hard at keeping my weight healthy - I had gained a few pounds and went back on Weight Watchers 2 weeks ago and am back to where I need to be! Want to look good in a bathing suit at WDW, and just feel better in general!
I follow this plan at WDW to keep from gaining:
-Healthy breakfast (cereal or scrambled eggs - avoid the pastries and buffets!).
-Avoid buffets in general - too tempting!
-One treat a day is OK - just not a huge treat! Dole Whips in the MK are a good example of a treat that won't do you in!
-All the walking helps, and in the summer heat, my appetite is smaller.
Good Luck!

It's awfully hard with all the great things to snack on at the World. We rarely leave the room for breakfast, having the same food we have at home: cereal & juice. We split almost all the meals, sandwiches & snacks & try to avoid the buffets. This allows us to try a greater variety without overeating. Substituting for fries (carrots, grapes or an apple) does help, too. You can also get the sandwich w/o fries for about $1.80 less--just ask when you order. We get side salads when available, but sometimes the dressing they give you can be loaded with fat. DW brings fat-free dressing packets-the kind you can pick out when you buy a salad at a supermarket-and we use those. My biggest weakness is the fries, chips, etc., while DW loves the desserts-especially chocolate. Doing the things above makes us feel a little better than if we just eat whatever we feel like-although we still end up a few pounds heavier when we get home!!

There are also fresh fruit stands in all the parks. If I am going to have a fattening treat I make sure I have eaten a healthy snack earlier. Also share, share, share! Most dessert and snack portions are huge. It is better to eat only a half of slice of cake than a whole slice. I also just throw things away as soon as the urge passes. A few bites of ice cream and I am done! I don't feel like I am depriving myself but I get to enjoy what I want. Don't feel bad about wasting food because your waist line will thank you later.

Teppanyaki is great for dieting. The seafood (my fav) or the chicken is a good choice. Lots of restaurants have fish. I did well in Boston over the 4th having lots of fish and chicken for my meals. Good luck.

MelanieC, you reminded me that Yakitori House (fast food Japan) is also great for a healthy meal! DH and I love the Beef Udon Soup, while the kids like the skewered meats and rice. Easting outside in the Japanese Garden in the evening is so nice. No trip is complete for us without eating at Yakitori House!

We just returned from 12 days in Orlando. My family was experienceing the same weight loss concerns. We stopped and bought lowfat breakfast items and also took a low fat snack into the parks. We found the Special K bars worked like a charm. We stayed hydrated by asking for ice water from places with soda fountains. There was no bad taste and it was free.

For lunch, my husband and I usually split a meal. This allowed us to indulge but in a smaller way. Dinner was our big meal. However, we only ate dessert 3 nights and went easy on the alcohol.

I had a great chicken dish with garlic mashed at the Rainforest Cafe. The Kona Cafe at the Polynesian also had a good/healthy menu.

Good luck
