Dieting for Disney

Great thread! I'm a Weight Watchers leader and you all are very good advertisements! LOL! I thought I would just "weigh-in" on this subject and if any of you have questions I might know the answer.

First off, you don't need WW to lose weight. What you need is: knowledge of food so you make wise choices that don't leave you deprived, exercise that is enjoyable and not a chore, a support team, and accountabilty. Weight Watchers is just nice because it gives you all of those things in one place. For me it was the only thing that worked, accountability was my big problem and the big scale looming weekly was very helpful to my reaching my goal (which I've been at 3 years.) I've done both Core and Flex and both are great.

I'm going to Disney and a cruise this December and I have been trying to decide how to get back on course exercise-wise. Since I don't have pounds to lose, I might do the Disney Dollars for every mile I run. One Dollar for each mile! What do you think?

Also, any questions?

Esther

I love that so many people have posted. It really lets me know that I am not alone. I too love the disney dollar idea. Currently my DH is putting money away for me for new clothes $2 per pound. I have been having a hard time with this. Disney is a huge motivation for me.

I just need to say that I am so excited about this thread and VERY VERY happy that people are so positive about this thread. I am currently 5"4 and 180lbs. My goal is to lose 35-45lbs. by next year. That is a lot of weight when you love food! :teeth:

Im currently at goal but afraid of gaining
I use fitday every day to track my daily food intake
Im going about 200 calories lower/day so I can indulge on our summer vacations (Maine, NH, WDW)

Oh boy I am embarassed to say, but I dieted before Disney too, lost 10 lbs, than gained it all back eating all the awesome food! Do you think that ordering both the French toast and eggs benedict from boatwrights overdoing it? And, I ate all of it! :rotfl:

We are going in October as well, I have been trying to lose baby weight (from 6.5 years ago!) My only problem is that I am breastfeeding my 1 yr old. So I can't go all out like I used to. Anyone have any tips for dieting while breastfeeding? Thank you!!

I got great news when I went and exercised tonight. In the last couple of weeks, I have lost 8 more pounds and my bodyfat has went down. Finally, my waste is getting a little tighter. I still can't get my lower abs tight but they are getting better. I am 9 days away from leaving and I am getting more motivated by the minute.

Great thread! DH and I both need to lose some weight and have decided to use WDW in Dec as motivation. We've decided to walk every night after dinner with the kids, that way we'll all be ready for all the walking that we'll be doing in the parks! If we can figure out how to stick to a good healthy diet to go along with the walking, we'll be getting somewhere. Somehow, we find that there is is a big gap between knowing what we should do and actually doing it!! :confused3

But even baby steps will get us there eventually... Hopefully, posting here will help us all keep our goals in mind and remind us that feeling great for good is better than the momentary pleasure of eating whatever right now. Okay, I'm just gonna keep saying that over and over and over and over... :goodvibes

Good luck everybody!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

ESTHER the leader:

I think the running thing is perfect!! Leading is something I may consider when I get to goal...I would love to talk to others and inspire them!! Esther: I can not seem to get those last 3 pounds to goal gone!!!! The first 25 came off like melting butter and now...I know I am not doing all I should do and I am back STRICTLY OP this week...I love the core way of life. I love that I run, do step, weights, kickbox and am active wo even getting tired much anymore!! I am not afraid to walk the miles at disney now OR get in a swimsuit at the pool :sunny:

My ultimate goal is really 125 and I will do this til I get there, no matter how long it takes me....

good luck everyone!!!

This thread has me so motivated. I hope up earlier then the kids and got on my gazellle for 30 minutes and had a real core breakfast. Shredded wheat with ff milk and sliced strawberries. :jumping3: I hope everyone has a great day. :goodvibes

I'm so happy :flower: ! I love that there are so many supportive, good people on the DisBoards! :sunny:
Our trip to WDW was last Dec. with another trip to come in Dec 2006, but I still visit these boards everyday because each and every day there's SOMETHING that I can relate to. Last night my husband and I had a discussion about me going back to WW-he thinks I should be able to just jump into it without the meetings because I did it before and still have the materials (It was a great plan for me 3 yrs. ago and I liked the "order" to keeping points-I've put on some weight over my goal weight, but am only 3lbs. over my goal weight now-BUT I'd still like to be 10lbs. lighter...). Anyway, I think the meetings are great because of the support you give and receive during them-when I did it before, it gave me some "me" time that I desparetly needed.

I still would like to go back to some WW meetings to find out more about the "core program," but I think this thread will prove to be a great source of inspiration! :cheer2:

Try WW online! It is such a great resource. I get more out of the message boards then I do going to a meeting.

Hey guys,

Why don't you stop by the WISH board here on DIS. WISH stands for We are Inspired to Stay Healthy. We all support each other on loosing weight, getting healthy and exercise. Everyone there is so supportive and its really a great board for inspiration and support.

Would love to see you all.

didn't do well this week at my weigh in...gained 1/2 pound :guilty:

I am back on track today :flower:

please visit the WW boards they are awesome!!!!

This is a really good guide for using exercise to lose a considerable amount of weight. It was basically what I did a year ago to lose about 40 pounds (without the book) and I am smaller than I have ever been-EVEN BEFORE CHILDREN!!!!

Soooooo simple but you must be disciplined about the exercise! I am not a very good dieter, but I did count calories based on my weight and metabolism. I must take out more than I put in so fat will come off! :teacher: You can do that by cutting back but it is much easier to work it off and have normal food with your family.

Bob Greene's workout is pretty intense. I go at 5 am in the morning (if I don't go first thing, it will not happen....I have tried different schedules for at least ten years) I don't say we will go, Monday/Wednesday/Friday. WE GO EVERYDAY!!!!! Of course there is sickness and weather and so on, but we plan on going everyday. We are up to running 4 miles right now (I am no runner :sad2: ) We started by walking and increasing distance house by house. I trained for a 10K last year and that was what got me hooked! :lovestruc

I am not one of those "oh, I love to run" people, but I swear to you NOTHING absolutely nothing takes off pounds like running. You burn way more calories running than anything else. I encourage anyone who has struggled for years to take off weight-look up a local race. Start with a 3 miler and move up from there. There are beginner training schedules on line and almost anyone can run. :hyper:

I was thick in the middle for many years and even though I only weighed about 165 I was a size 16/18. At the end of last summer after running for about 9 months I weighed 135 and was wearing a 6/8!!!! Very little dieting involved (I cut out late-night binges, sweet drinks (still diet thought :goodvibes ) and still try to keep my calories around 1500 on a regular day. It can be done!!!

I am no inspiration but lots of my girlfriends got bit by the bug when they realized their friend (non-runner  ) started lookin' pretty good!!!

Feel free to pm me with questions. I love to encourage people! :sunny:

I will say it again, ANYONE CAN DO THIS. My running parter is a 40 year old mother of two with arthritis!!!! She had never run a day in her life! When I first started I could not run the distance of 3 houses  It takes time and discipline, but the payoffs are huge!

I always figured 1/2 a pound was "scratch" I get about a pound and a half if I wear jeans and a sweatshirt, have change in my pocket, leave my cell phone on my hip, etc... Last week I did an experiement. I have access to a good Doctor's type scale. I weighed myself with a full bladder. I weighed myself 90 seconds later with an empty bladder - 1/4 lb.

TNKBELL, First of all kudos to you for going a full year with breastfeeding! Now it's time to stop. JUST KIDDING :rotfl: . Seriously, you should have no problems with losing weight and breastfeeding, especially with a 1 year old. First, exercising is abolutely fine and recommended. As far as actual dieting, be sure you are getting at least 1800 calories/day of foods that are high in nutritional value and to make sure you include foods rich in calcium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6 and folate, and possibly you'd want to include a multivitamin. You should just never go below 1500 calories/day while nursing. if you don't get enough food, it likely won't affect your baby, but you run the risk of getting very sick and rundown (just what you want with little ones running around :sad2: ) Not sure about for a year old, but for younger babies, it's also not recommended to lose more than 4 pounds a month.

Sorry, didn't mean to write a book, but feel free to PM me if you have any other thoughts or questions about it. I really love to see breastfeeding work for families! :flower:

OH, I just realized you're THE TNKBELL from the other thread I. I told you we'd be great friends! :p

Hi again!! :sunny: About 5 years ago I joined Jenny Craig and they put me on 1700 calories a day. I felt like I was starving and went to bed shakey every night. Then when I went in to weigh each week the most I ever lost was 1/2 a pound! :confused3 I couldn't believe it because I never once cheated(too cheap to cheat paying that much per week!) They always asked me (in a very nice way) so what went wrong, why did I cheat? I assured them I wasn't cheating but they didn't seem too convinced. I think I lost a total of 1 1/2 lbs! I have been weary to restrict my calories too much because I feel like you have to excercise your metabolism by consuming healthy small portions and don't let yourself go hungry because(read up on this) if you do, your body goes into self-preservation mode and slows the metabolism to a crawl. I think that's what happened to me. Anyway I'm trying to eat healthier and excercise more. I need lots of encouragement though, because I'm a chocoholic! :mickeybar Sorry to ramble

TNKBELL-with WW, there were times I have to eat more just to eat my daily points. Like you said, some diets basically starve you and slow down your metabolism, which in turn slows down your ablilty to burn off the calories-so with WW (with points-I don't know how the core system works-YET :sunny: ) you need to eat a certain amount. The first few weeks of a new diet are always tough, no matter what you do (for me atleast). I tried to do South Beach, but the "induction" phase always killed me! Same thing-I would be very shaky, have headaches and feel so sick!!

There are a lot of yummy sugar-free candies out there now that help to satisfy my sweet tooth, but choc. is a hard one-once I start eating, I CRAVE it!

tnkbell WW will tell you anywhere from 1/2 pound to 2 pounds a week is a healthy, normal loss...only once did I loose 4 pounds one week and consistently lost 1/2 to 1 a week and here I am 25 pounds lighter!! You really need to get active with the diet plan...I do high intense cardio three to four times a week with weight training two to three times a week and 100 sit ups or ab work or pilates daily!! To the Bob Greene poster: I have such tummy problems, without my gross flabby tummy no doubt I would be hitting a 4 but my tummy is nasty and hangs down from a c section, what kinds of abs and workouts did you do to help that area??? I am considering a tummy tuck not for weight reasons but my tummy is grossly unproportioned with my body...I went from a 14 to a 6/8 now but tummy is still bad. I need help in this area. I also have DD chest but am REALLY small framed, no back side at all, small hips and shoulders but my tummy :sad2: anyone else have a c section problem?
