Dieting for Disney

First and foremost I want to thank all of you for your sincere, caring and uplifting posts! I cannot tell you how they've made me smile and how comforting they have been, you guys really are the best!! I can say now, that after research, talking to others and reading your encouraging words, that I feel much better about what is going on.

I am taking him Tuesday morning to consult with the Ped. Surgeon. I've spoken to them (partnership) on the phone already and tentatively are looking at next week for the surgery. He told me that the surgery would take place in the morning and we would be on our way home before lunch! Amazing isn't it?? My son is not bothered at all by this which, as funny as it seems, makes me even more at ease. Already my kids are taking care of their mom  Anyway, I will keep you updated on Tuesday and thereafter. Thanks again to my online family for your INCREDIBLE support!! :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

On to the positive... First I have to say...LOOK AT MY NEW TAG!!!
I was SO EXCITED to read it, and LOVE that she added comments from this thread!! THANK YOU TAG FAIRY!!! YOU SERIOUSLY ROCK!!!
Funny how such a little thing can make such a impact, I'm smiling right now as I type this.

I am planning on keeping my workout schedule, with no interruptions. I am also planning on a "bonus" day and going today. The tag fairy gave me the inspiration :goodvibes

I also want to welcome Blondealligator :welcome: :welcome:
I think your weight loss goal is totally attainable. Let us know what program you are doing (diet, exercise, etc) and if we can help you in any way!

Momrek...sounds like you are doing AWESOME!!! Housecleaning (especially deep housecleaning) is wonderful exercise, although not my favorite form :teeth: Keep up the great work, you are such an inspiration and I thank you for your kind and heartfelt thoughts.

Teacher..WOW, I cannot believe what you've gone through with your son. It is SO hard isn't it?? I'm absolutely THRILLED that everything is turning out so well, and will be thinking of you and have you in our prayers as well. Isn't it weird how we have so many similiarities? Thanks again, it means SO much!

Bubba..You GO!! Going to the gym twice in one day?? I think you've set a new thread world record :woohoo: :lmao: I don't think any others of us have accomplished such a feat...WAY 2 GO!!! Seriously, that is commitment and dedication :woohoo: Congrats on making out of the Mexican restaurant with very little guilt. I don't know if I could've done that. You are doing SO well and are so committed, you are such a continued inspiration and thank you so much for your dedication to your health and our questions. I agree with everyone else, I do not want someone with 3% body fat showing me how to take my 50% body fat and work it out :lmao: I want a REAL person who has had REAL results and can affect me on a personal, not superficial level. Let us know how you're doing.

I just decided that I am going to the gym today (DH just left after sympathetically trying to understand my joy at my new tag :rotfl2: ) so I might as well. I also added my weight loss ticker again, it gives me a reminder of how far I've come, and keeps me motivated. I think it's pretty great, I've worked hard for that sucker!! You all can understand ;)

Have a great weekend, will check back again later. Glad to see so many new people and the "regulars" committed to health!!

Thanks to everyone for their kind welcomes! I had my DD 3 1/2 years ago & after I finished nursing I started WW. I lost 50 lbs with them, although my doctor said that I lost a little too much. I was diagnosed with OCD & anxiety disorder (long story behind that...maybe for another time) & my weight was the only thing I felt I could control. Since then I have gained back @40 lbs. UGH!! My plan is to go back to the WW plan (though not attend meetings...too much $$ what with all the $ we are spending on DD's therpay for Autism)...count points, keep a food diary & excersise on the elliptical as much as I can (or walk when it's nice). I think that what made WW work for me before was knowing that I was accountable to someone every week. So I will make you guys my "meeting" & "weigh in" with you every week. I am excited & really feel like now that my OCD is under control & I have accepted my DD's Autism & she's getting what she needs, I can focus more of my energy on myself! Whoo hoo! I am so inspired by all of your successes & the way you suppport each other & I am so happy to have found this "home".

Right now I weigh 179. :sad1:

Wish me luck!!

Allison

Hi Everyone!! What a great Group!! I really, really need to lose weight, I would feel so much better about myself.....I'm going on a Disney Cruise in September and I keep saying I will start and commit to loose weight...I just don't know where to start. I don't want to join anything, been there done that and have spent way too much!! Any suggestions to get me started, what to eat, how to exercise etc. I am about 80lbs overweight, very healthy at last Dr. Visit. Just need to start!!

Thank you!! :goodvibes
Suzie

Welcome Suzie :cheer2: :welcome: :welcome: We are so happy to have you here. I am very hopeful that you will find the encouragement and helpful hints that you are looking for. We are all here to help any way we can so don't be afraid to ask. As far as getting started, you have already taken the first step. You have admitted that you need to do something. Now, to gain the appropriate knowledge to help you succeed. I will be honest. I am not a fan of "fad" diets. They usually don't last. You may loose weight but as soon as you get off the plan and get back on real food, you will put it back on. My suggestions to start off with are basic.
1) Cut out fried foods. You have to eat smarter. Grilled, baked and even broiled are a lot healthier alternatives.
2) Continue to eat fruits and vegetables but be mindful of when you eat them. Fruits have a high concentration of sugar in them. The later in the day that you eat them, the more likely they turn into fat. Vegetables, especially greens, are very good for you at night.
3) Drink lots of water. All the other drinks that are loaded with sugar turns into fat. Other drinks that are loaded with sodium so it makes you retain water. But when you drink water, it helps you keep your kidneys flushed out so you are not retaining water. It is an all-natural diuretic.
4) Sweat! No matter what kind of exercise you do: walking, jogging, bike riding, etc. It doesn't matter. Weight loss can only be achieved when you burn more calories than you take in. So get out there and sweat.

Blondealligator - We will be here for you every step of the way. It seems like you already have a plan. That's a good thing. Now, you just have to stay diligent in carrying that plan out. I know you can do it. You don't only have my support but the support of every one else on the thread. We will be here to aid you in your weight loss and to try to help comfort you with your DD's Autism. (I can totally understand. We had my DS tested for Autism when he was very young. He didn't have it. He has ADHD instead but I do understand some of what you are going through.) Good luck!

Lionqueen - I am so glad you are feeling better about the upcoming procedure on your son. Really, that is all it is. I have several friends that have had the hernia operation and they have all said the same thing. It was nothing. But still, as a parent, we all can understand your anxiety. You have been an emotional and motivational leader ever since you have joined our family and I hope we can return the favor during your trying times. We are going to continue to pray for you and your family.

Hope all of you are well and have a great Sunday!! :cheer2: :grouphug:

Good morning fellow Disney loving dieters! It is Monday and I feel exhilarated! I know that some of you may hate Mondays, most of us do, but I like to look at Monday as a fresh start to a great week!

I will be doing my regular workout and swimming today, keeping focused on the grand prize....looking and feeling great @ my 2nd home..WDW!! I do not know how anything I put (or don't put) in my mouth could be sweeter than that!

I know that Dday (departure day) is inching closer and closer for many of us, and I am going to be ready! I fantasize about seeing the castle for the 1st time and feeling good about having my picture taken in front of it. This is my motivation as well as all of you.

I am really trying to maintain focus and hope you all are too. Have a great Monday!! :woohoo:

Hey everyone. I hope you have had a fantastic day today. Did you stay motivated and dedicated to the cause? I hope so. I know that you did because you are all winners. You have set a goal in front of yourself and I know you will achieve it. I know the Olympics are over but I feel like saying, "Let's go for the Gold!!!"

Exercise Update - I had today off from work but I had my travel agent ask me to come by so I could help her to get in shape. So I spent some time with her on that and then I headed over to the gym. I did my normal workout and then I did an hour of cardio. I used the elliptical machine and according to the readings, I went a little over 5 miles and burned over 800 calories. I feel exhilarated. I know that sounds sick but it is true. I look at it as an accomplishment and getting me one step closer to my goal. After I left the gym, I even went over to get myself another push lawn mower. I am about to put it together and try to get as much as my yard done as I can before it gets dark. What an awesome feeling. I hope you get the same kind of feeling when you finish with your workout. :cool1: :cheer2: :cloud9:

Come on everyone! It is a brand new week. This could me the best one we have had yet if we want it to be. I know I am going to make it a personal goal of mine to try to do some form of cardio every single day this week. Is anyone with me? Wil anyone else take that challange? Come along! It is going to be a very fun week. :woohoo: :cheer2:

OK, one day down :woohoo: I am going to take on your challenge Bubba and do some cardio everyday. I may not be able to complete it due to Dr's appts and unknown coming schedule, but I will try! I think that is a GREAT idea!

It is so funny, I still have a little over a month to go and I'm acting like it's Crunch time :lmao: I've already begun alphabetizing my packing list and doing some shopping. I love the anticipation, it is just so awesome!!

Anyway, I will chat with you all tomorrow..let us know how your day went today!!

I'm with ya'! I'm hoping to do 5 step classes this week at the health club. I do this while my kids are at dance lessons and sports practice. Much better than walking around a store killing time. :thumbsup2

I need a reality check...

Is loosing about a pound a week okay? I know it's not as good as 2 pounds per week, but it is certainly better than gaining! I'm just beginning to hit that wall and am irritated.

Count me in for the daily cardio. I need a shove at this point. Hope everyone has a good week!

HEY EVERYONE: Well here it is MONDAY night. DH has informed me that he is really upset with himself and is now really really going to hop on board with his weight loss plan. As his resident "trainer" (hahaha) I have asked him to
pls add more time to the eliptical...(he does it everyday for 35min on level 9) but he has been doing this for sometime AND AND AND then comes home and because of his w/o thinks it is OPEN SEASON in the kitchen....so I have him now convinced it does NOT work that way, buddy.... :sad2: He has upped his time to 45 minutes!!! YEAH!!! And at dinner has CUT OUT the bread. NOT NECESSARY at all. For some (like DH) old habits die hard....I told him if he gives that NO BREAD one week solid he will not miss it after that...one week!!!
UGH...this is for us a LIFE STYLE COMMITMENT....!!! :)
Cleaned Gram's house ALL day Saturday. DS thought we would only need an hour, but when you only do SURFACE cleaning for 9 months...the dust and dirt does pile up. DS looks at me around 4pm (after being there all day) and says..."wow, housecleaning is exhausting"....."YUP, SONNY, it is"!!!!!
We got subs from subway, 6 inch, whole wheat, turkey, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, pickles ONLY...no dressing or cheese....do you think that was GOOD choice making for ME??? I was so hungry (we ate at 2pm) I INHALED it!!! Didn't even realize until I was almost done there was nothing on it...didn't need it....!!! Glass of diet pepsi and back to cleaning!!!

Sounds like everyone is doing GREAT!!! WE HAVE A NEWBIE, GANG...yes we do!!! TO SUZIEDISNEY :welcome: :welcome: to our wonderful motivating THREAD on diet, weightloss, fitness and health....YEAHHH!!!!
lionqueen: I am so jealous of your swimming...wish I had a pool or Y around me!!! UGH...BUBBA: COUNT ME IN!!! :thumbsup2 CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO :teeth: teacher: IMHO a loss is a loss....1 lb, 1/2 lb, KEEP GOING, we all hit walls from time to time...reflect back on how awesome you have done...that WILL give you POWER to continue...just remember we are all here for YOU. BUBBA: I did the TWIST today and thought of you all the time...I even had a friend ask "what exactly is that exercise"..told her a very good friend of mine does this and I am doing it NOW...she was intrigued...here I am at a GYM with 5000 sq feet of equipment, trainers everywhere and YOUR exercised BECAME very intriguing to those watching me...YEAH, BUBBA!!! I know this is in YOUR future!! YOU ROCK!!! Just had to share that with YOU!!! :yay:
OKAY, I am printing off some ideas on the web of snacks and will post that next time. I know I mentioned it last POST, but did not get to it. Today I did s/t and tomorrow will be cardio!!!
TO EVERYONE: keep moving and keep your heads up HIGH!!! I will try and POST more often but with work, some days it is easier than others!!!

ABOUT THOSE SNACKS: Has anyone tried the 100 calorie Nabisco Snacks...what do you all think of those...good to munch on at lunch on the side. I usually have 1/2 whole wheat pita with turkey OR peanut butter OR tuna and then I tried a package of those...nice... :)
I had tried the FAT FREE PRINGLES but those have that olestra and does not agree with moi!!!! :sad2: I am DOWN to one diet soda A DAY....YEAH!!! Love Diet Pepsi, but was overdoing it....I love YOGURT :teeth: but did you see the # of CARBS in there

ANYWAY: is BLESTMOM new to us as well..if so then :welcome: :welcome: !!!
:grouphug: for everyone...I will keep you all posted!!!

Not exactly new, but usually pretty quiet. I just got back from my first of 5 days of cardio...I did an hour step class. Tomorrow I'm going to try a Powerflex weight lifting class, and a step class. Talk about motivating...there are some women in the class who are at least 10 years older than me, lifting W-A-Y more weights than I can do. But I'm having fun, and trying to not compare myself with others.

Well here is my weekly weigh in....

Weight on 4/18: 166lbs
Weight today: 164lbs
Loss: 2lbs (the same 2lbs I keep gaining and losing for the
last couple of weeks)

Well, I lost the two lbs I gained last week, but I did that by 4/21, and have stayed the same since then. I went from doing 65% of my target heart rate on the eliptical to doing 75% of the target heart rate. I have to work ALOT harder on the eliptical to do it, and I still am not seeing any results. I started this after losing the 2lbs. It just seems like I am not getting anywhere. In the last couple of weeks I have just gained and lost the same 2lbs. I can't seem to break this plateau. Any suggestions?

This is what my stats have been:
Starting weight (Jan 17th): 197lbs
Goal Weight: 135lbs
total loss: 33lbs

I take One A Day Weight Smart. And this is what my tipical daily eating is like
Breakfast: special K
Snack: watermelon
Lunch: Weight Watchers Meal or Salad
Snack: Fruit
Dinner: Weight Watchers Meal or Salad

My total calories is about: 1,200
I work out every day doing: 30 minutes of cardio (eliptical)
20 minutes of Bowflex
free weight training
100 crunches (30 lbs of restistance
on the bowflex)
30 back lifts on a roman chair
(hyperextension)

I don't know what else to do. I can't drop my calories, I feel like I am starving as it is! I just don't get why the results have slowed down soooo much. HELP!

OK, OK, OK....here's the revelation I've made just recently, again, turn away if you're easily shocked..you MUST stay off the scale! Let me tell you why and my little story.

First of all, the scale can really screw with your head! I was MAJORLY discouraged last month and into early April because during the entire month of March I lost a whopping 2lbs. Keep in mind that I work out AT LEAST 5X per week, AT LEAST 1 HOUR of cardio + strenght Training + swimming 2X per week + walking to/from DS school 3X per week. Are you exhausted just reading about it?? Imagine doing it and not losing ANYTHING!!

Here is what I FINALLY figured out! My body weight as per the scale will never be exactly what I truly weigh. For example, water weight, time of day, clothes worn, etc..the list goes on and on. When I got my 1st BMI calculation (hadn't done it for 2 mos..didn't understand it) I weighed in with a total weight loss of 19lbs (IN # MONTHS). My BMI (body mass index I think is what it's called) I had lost 28lbs of fat :confused3 I looked at the trainer like wha?? She said that while I am losing weight, more importantly I am gaining muscle and losing fat. She told me also to stay off the scale. I only get on once per week now, not even then sometimes and I feel GREAT!! I am not a slave to the scale and feel wonderful.

I would also very strongly suggest to eat 2-3oz lean protein in between your meals. This will really boost your metabolism, trust me, it works! Also drink water until it seems like your eyeballs are going to float :rotfl2:

You know you're working hard so let you body show you your success, not the scale. Today I just got into a pair of designer jeans I haven't worn in 3+ years and they are LOOSE!! I am just thrilled by this, and this motivates me more than the dumb old scale. It took me a long time to figure this out, I hope it works for you!

To all the other "mom's" (momrek, blestmom, kidsmom and all) GREAT JOB and what a great and superior attitude I am getting from your postings. Way to go! I am super motivated and you all just pump me up even more, thanks so much!! Good luck to everyone this week, let's rock it!!

BTW, had my son's surgery consult today and boy am I relieved. The surgeon is SUPER and reassured me like you could not believe. I am actually looking forward to the procedure, which will be next Wednesday, and getting my little prince back to 100%. I have no fears at all and want to thank you all for your wonderful words of encouragement, thanks so much!!! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Hi everyone! My weigh-in day is not until Saturday, but I thought I would say a quick hello to you all. Since I have renewed my weight loss commitment I have been doing really well. I have stayed on my points (WW) & exercise plan & I really feel positive this time!

Question for you all...are any of you stress eaters? I am. I have OCD and so dealing with stress can be difficult for me...I tend to say "Oh what the ####" & use food as a coping device. It's almost like I will "reward" myself with a treat (or 2 or 3) at the end of a really bad day or weekend or whatever. How do you guys combat this habit??

I have come up with a motivation tool, though. I love going to the spa & getting manicures & pedicures. So, this week I am going to my favorite spa & buying 3 gift cards for myself for those treatments. I am giving the gift cards to my Mom to hang onto (she is keeping track of my weight loss for me so I have someone in person to be accountable to). Every 10 lbs I lose, she will give me one of the cards! This way, I get a treat that is not food related, I get to pamper myself as my reward for hard work. The 10 lb. increments make the goals seem more attainable instead of one big reward after I've lost it all, and since the cards are already paid for, I'll be motivated by the money I'll lose if I don't lose the weight! What do you think?

Well, good luck this week, everyone! I'll chekc in on Saturday & let you know how I've done!

:

I COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE :thumbsup2 !!! I have NOT weighed myself for sometime as in the past it does NOTHING for my MIND at all!
The scale makes me MORE depressed than CHEATING!!!!

I have to be so psyched up to get on the scale and that it will not reveal something I do NOT want to see.

When you have had the weight issues I have had (23years) the scale is NOT I repeat NOT your friend. :sad2:

I am SURE I will post everyone when and IF I get the guts up to get on a scale!!!

Lionqueen - Glad to hear you feel positive about the procedure. Obviously please keep us all posted.

I too hate the scale. Every time I get on that stupid thing it sets my mood for several days. I've been faithful. I work out at Curves 3 times per week for 45 minutes, walk 3 miles 3 days a week, eating about 1,500 calories and am also drinking like a fish. It's simply not coming off as quickly as I'd like - BUT AT LEAST IT'S COMING OFF!!

Is our official weight loss for the month of April due on Monday? That does give me a little more time. See? It's that scale thing again!

Have a wonderful rest of the week everybody!

Let me start this off by saying, "Holy Cow!!" I can't believe the day all of you had. WOW! I am impressed by your dedication and I am inspired by your stories. I am going to try to touch on everyone just a little but if this gets too long winded, please forgive me.

Blestmom - It is good to hear from you. By looking at your reports, you are doing well. I would love to know how your progress is going. The routines that you have set-up seem like they should do the trick. As far as the others that are in your class that is lifting more weight than you are, that's fine. Don't let that bother you. The more you lift, the bigger your muscles will get. Are you trying to get the tone look like a fitness model or do you want to be a Ms. Olympia contestant? How much you lift is not near as important as the results you get from what you are lifting. I think you are doing great. Please feel free to ask or share anything. We are here to help and support you.

thekidsmom - I understand your frustration. I was looking at your daily diet and I had two things that popped into my mind. Sugar & Sodium. How much sugar are you taking in per day? How much sodium do your weight watcher meals have? Just as a reminder. Sugar, especially taken at night, will turn mainly into fat. The fruits you are eating have a high concentration of sugar. This is great for energy but it is terrible when you have already done all of your exercise and you are going to be sitting down more than getting up. I would suggest to eat your fruits during the daytime (pre - 3pm) and eat more vegetables at night. You might start to see a difference with this. Also, the sodium. Sodium is salt and salt will make you retain water. This can and will always add a couple of pounds on the scale. It is real hard to keep sodium out of your diet but one of the best ways to do it is to eat fresh foods, not prepackaged. And I agree with lionqueen. Try eating a little more protein.

teacher31 - Loosing any weight is great. Remember that you are loosing it the right and healthy way. I would be more concerned if you came up and said you lost 7 pounds in one day. What you may want to try is to totally change up your routines? Your body as become used to what you are doing. Every 4-6 weeks you need to change up our else you will be stagnate. You also might want to have a day in your diet where you go drastic in your eating. For one whole day, eat nothing but protein. This will shock your system. Once every other week, splurge. Eat all the foods you have been craving. Then, when you go back to your diet, you will loose. Give that a try. I think you might be surprised the results.

BlondeAlligator - That is a fantastic idea. :cheer2:  :woohoo: Giving yourself those little rewards as a pat on the back a lot of the times will be more motivating than anything anyone could say. I know you will be able to make the goals that you have set for yourself and I know that we are going to be here :cheer2: you all the way.

Momrek - Try that Body Pump class. That will be a great way to change up your routine. Something like that could jumpstart you into a whole new level of fitness. You have been an awesome motivator on this thread. You are always looking for new stuff, new ideas. :woohoo:

lionqueen - I am thrilled that you are now at peace about your son's procedure. Your dedication to family and your inspiration and knowledge that you share here are incredible. There are so many parents out there that don't care about what happens with their kids that it is scary. But with you and the other Mom's on this site, it is refreshing. It's funny how we started this thread to loose weight and hopefully inspire and motivate but we have truly become a family. I know I feel like I can share anything with all of you without fear. Honestly, for me, that is a big step. Also, you are staying focused and diligent with your exercise. It would be so easy to just take a week or two off and eat out of stress like what BlondeAlligator mentioned earlier but you are not. I commend you. By the way, what a fantastic achievement you posted about the jeans. :woohoo: :cheer2: :cloud9: Words can't describe how happy and elated you are. You are doing such a wonderful job.

Ok. I think that is everyone. Quick notes. I did only 20 minutes worth of cardio today because I had a meeting tonight with a volunteer program I am in so I had to cut it short. Next week is our monthly weigh in. We are in the home stretch. Don't be discouraged by whatever weight loss you post. I know kidsmom has said she feels frustrated about the same two pounds . That's ok. If you have lost 2 pounds, that's great. You are achieving your goals of better health and fitness. If you have lost 10 pounds, you are achieving a little faster. Would you rather loose those 2 pounds or put on 5 because all we did was sit on the couch and watch tv? I think you all are wonderful. I feel like you are my family. And I know we are a TEAM because Together Everyone Achieves More.

Hope you have a fantastic Wednesday!! :sunny: :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Bubba: I took your advise and I started having a fresh vegetable for my afternoon snack. As for the weighht watcher meals I only have one a day. I switch off between salad and a ww meal. So it is either a salad for lunch and a ww for dinner or a ww for lunch and a salad for dinner. I do my exercises about and hour and a half after dinner and I don't eat anything after dinner. I also only drink water. Well, I also started doing some yoga, I have had these dvd's laying around so I thought I would try it, but I just don't seem to get into it. But I will hang in there and see if it can help, anything to break through this plateau. Thank you all for your suggestions and support, it mean the world.
Tammy

PS. as of tomorrow, I won't be on much untill after wednesday of next week. I am going to see my mother she is having knee replacement surgery.
