Dieting at Disney Restaurants?

I'm thinking about the same thing and am thinking about splitting meals with DW. We don't go to WDW until late November, but I am already checking out menus on allearsnet.com.
I've just started yesterday on new eating habits. Instead of three meals a day with lunch and supper being significant meals I am eating five or six small meals at more frequent intervals.

Excellent for your metabolism :goodvibes

I seem to eat one big meal a day, and then three small meals.

You should actually have three meals and two or three snacks: breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, evening snack, everything 2-3 hours apart. Keep the snacks healthy, low calorie & low fat. When I was losing weight, breakfast & lunch were about 300 calories each, dinner 400, snacks about 60 each. Since I'm 64 and pretty inactive, I was limited to 1100-1150 calories a day. YMMV.

This is exactly how I feel! I'm down almost 45 pounds and I'm hoping to be at my goal when I go to wdw in June. I am planning on enjoying everything while I'm there! I'm going to look at it as a reward for hopefully being at lifetime or close to it at ww. When I get back home, I'll get back on the wagon. I went on a cruise several years ago and only gained about 5 pounds. I figure it will be worth gaining 5 pounds to enjoy foods I haven't had in forever.

o man,, i know i am going to be a very,, very bad girl in sept!!!

i have been doing ww points and is going great:cool1: BUT i know in sept when i go w/ ddp i will eat everything:scared1:

i'm sorry but if i gain 10 lbs eating all my fave wdw food once a year:cloud9: so be it,,lol..... i will get back on the horse after!!

Since i know this already i wont feel guilty when they roll me out of wdw:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I've been doing WW since Oct. 31, 2007 and I'm down 88.8 lbs (as of weigh in this morning). Next week will be my 3rd trip to Disney since I started WW. I never count points at Disney, although I'm very diligent about tracking at home. Here are some of the strategies I use while there.

1. Share as much as possible. I basically never order fries for myself. :lmao: My dd8 and I will often share a lunch or dinner entree.

2. Eat a light breakfast in your room. We stay off-site and have a kitchen. I keep this stocked with my "normal" breakfast foods and lots of fruit. I also keep low point snacks with me in the parks. Saves money and calories.

3. Pick one or two special treats and really enjoy them. Mine is a chocolate dipped rice krispy treat from Goofy's Candy Co. It's huge and lasts at least 3 days. Other than that, I don't really get many desserts, although I try bites of my family's choices (see strategy 1!)

4. Volunteer to be the FP runner. OK, I really don't do this one all that often, but I might this year.

5. Drink lots of water. Then drink some more.

6. Get back on track the 1st day you are home. Don't let the vacation turn into a lifestyle.

I think Disney is one of the best place to vacation when you're trying to lose weight!

I was doing weight watchers pretty seriously when we went in December of 2008 and less so when we went in Sept/Oct 2009. Both times I didn't count points. I made some good choices (mostly because I felt so sick after eating healthy at home for so long). But it's important to stay hydrated. You'll be walking so much that as long as you drink plenty of water you won't retain as much weight from all the sodium in the food.

That being said if you do want to try and count points or calories, I'd suggest ordering dishes dry (not cooked in oil or butter, no sauce) and trying to control portion size (size of a fist is 4 ounces I think they say?). Avoid dishes that are creamy or cheesy. Try subbing any greasy/fatty sides for grilled vegetables. Avoid dessert. If you're going to have a cocktail have some wine instead of something sugary.

I've been a bit worried about this as well because I do not want to come back from Disney having gained back a lot of what I'm working so hard to lose before we go, esp. because I will still have more to lose when we get back. I LOVE food, and I am all about enjoying it. I also can't stand to pay for food and waste it by not eating it all - which is what got me this whole "need to lose weight" problem! - so I am afraid of the huge portions. Luckily, though, I have a 2-year-old that will have to eat off my plate!

I haven't done WW in years, but ever since I first did it, I find myself mentally tallying up points when I'm choosing my food, even if I'm going to eat it no matter how many it is!
