Dietary PSA...gelatin in the honey cupcake

For all those who avoid gelatin, it's in two parts of the honey cupcake at Hungry Bear. The whipped topping and somewhere else, my mind glazed over when I saw the first mention of it and I forgot instantly.

And now I realize that it's possible all the cupcakes have that in their topping, which, now that I think about it makes sense because their goal would be to have topping that holds its shape, and gelatin is a quick cheat to get that goal met.

It does NOT say what kind of gelatin, so this doesn't just mess with diets of veggie types like me, but it might also mess with those following kosher diets, and those who are Muslim as well, depending on where that gelatin came from. I'm not sure if I saw milk in the ingredient list, fwiw, so even if the gelatin is cow-based it still might not be OK for those keeping kosher, from what i understand.

Now I wish I had taken a picture of the ingredient list!

Hope that helps someone who, like me, thought "what possible meat would they put in a cupcake?"

Obviously a vegan wouldn't be going for this cupcake just from the use of honey, but thinking about it, I'm not sure I actually saw "honey" listed at all, LOL.

Well, that's disappointing.

On the other hand, I suppose I now have an even better reason to stay away from the cupcakes. (Drat.)

That is funny about the honey, lame about the gelatin. My Dad asked me if they sold flavored honey or honey related treats in the Winnie the Pooh shop next to the ride and I laughed and said I don't think there is anything honey related in there- but there should be!

I know what you mean about gelatin, we had no idea there was gelatin in Frosted Mini Wheats (and all generic brands too). Just weird.

I had lemon honey in the title and post, then could not remember if it had lemon LOL and edited it.

I was tremendously disappointed, more so with the decision to use it on the whole than for the moment. I once had a long talk with Chef Chris, and he told me that they try to serve as many people with each food item as possible. So the Spanish rice won't have animal fat in it, because it still tastes good and also can be eaten by a large number of people.

This decision shows me that that was either wrong, or they have changed. Spanish rice, yes, I ask. Cupcakes? Who thinks of that?

I'm sorry to tell anyone who didn't want to know. I'm like that sometimes. I don't ask about cheese at restaurants, for example.

I was checking for corn syrup based ingredients to see if my son and husband could have a bit of it WHEN I got it, and found that information.
