Diet? What diet? A countdown: 18 TS restaurants on TIW card...#1 on pg. 18!

I'm so glad you enjoyed Sci-Fi! We had such a blast there, and it was totally unplanned for us to have lunch there when we went. But I loved it - the atmosphere alone is well worth the visit!

Loving the reviews and the countdown is an excellent idea.

Shame you didn't love Le Cellier - we are going there and Sci-Fi for our first time this trip.

CP breakfast is our favourite but we love CRT too.

Subscribing for more. Your life seems very hectic at the moment - hope the wedding is amazing and you are well for it but don't forget to post here too!

My life is always hectic :rotfl2:!! But, I don't really know anyone who doesn't have a very busy life! I will keep posting, don't worry! I'm feeling better, and taking it easy between now and the wedding.

Don't let my review of Le Cellier discourage you. No, we didn't LOVE it. But we didn't hate it either. I just thought that some of the food was too salty, and I didn't really think it was anything extremely special, compared to other more unique restaurants at WDW. Many people love it there! We loved Sci-Fi, but I have read some negative things about it, and I am glad I did not listen to them! I like to go and judge for myself.

Definitely worth a visit! We absolutely loved it! I would try dinner there too but online, I don't see burgers on their dinner menu and the burger was so good! So I have a feeling we will be back for lunch again next time! And yes, the atmosphere was awesome! :thumbsup2

Well everyone, tomorrow is my sister's big day!:banana:
I'm feeling much better today from my cold, so that's good! We went for manicures and pedicures this morning, and I took it easy the rest of the day. I have a little time now (kids are in bed), so I decided to write another review!

And coming in at #6 is......

SAN ANGEL INN!!!

We went here for lunch on Sunday, July 18, 2010. It had been an EMH morning at Epcot, and guess what? We were there from before 8am! We had a very nice morning. Upon park opening, I went right to Test Track to get fastpasses for me and DS5. He loved that ride on our first Epcot day and wanted to ride it again! While I went and did that, DH walked very leisurely with the boys over to Spaceship Earth to meet me. I met up with them and we walked right onto Spaceship Earth, another favorite of DS5 and another request to go on it again since he loved it so much the first time! Then we headed into the Land pavilion to go on the Living with the Land boat ride. We all loved it. The boys were fascinated by the greenhouse and everything they saw in there! Then, the park was about to "officially" open to everyone, so we waited for the Circle of Life film, which we all enjoyed too. My boys love The Lion King, so they liked seeing familiar characters. Then it was on to the Living Seas for some Turtle Talk and the Nemo ride. We hit some shops, hit Club Cool for some soda (DH and myself only...the boys don't touch soda and I want to keep it that way!). Then, it was time to go on Test Track. DH waited with DS3 while DS5 and I went, and we loved it once again!

Our lunch ADR was for 12pm. It was perfect timing. We did not feel rushed in Future World and got to do everything we had planned. :thumbsup2

We arrived just before 12pm, and we were seated within 5 minutes. The Mexico pavilion is so beautiful, and everything there is inside, which is a nice break from the heat for everyone! I forgot our waiter's name (you'll find out exactly why in just a moment :rotfl2:), but he was very nice. He walked over to our table and said, "Hablan espanol?" I said, "Si senor, yo hablo espanol." I teach high school level Spanish and Italian, and I explained this to him in Spanish. He asked us if we were ready to order drinks. OH YEAH!!! ;) DH ordered a blood orange margarita, and I had my good old favorite, a frozen margarita!!

DSCF2875.jpg

DSCF2874.jpg

The server brought these right over. HOLY COW!!! This was the best frozen margarita I have ever had in my life!! I have a special place in my heart for frozen margaritas, and this one just melted it! :lmao: It was perfect. It did not have too much of a tequila taste, but just the right amount. Not too tart, not too sweet. VERY refreshing on a hot summer Florida day! And I drank it pretty quickly...that's why I can't remember the waiter's name! :rotfl: Seriously, I don't drink that much alcohol, maybe a glass of wine here and there, but this was great! At the end of the meal, I told the waiter that I could feel that margarita and he said, "Oh yes...now you have to go on Soarin'!" :rotfl: And let me tell you, that boat ride in the Mexico pavilion was a lot of fun after this lunch!! :lmao: DH loved his margarita also. He said it was very unique (which is what he had expected when he ordered this) and tasty. He said he would definitely order this again.

The server also brought out some chips and salsa. The chips were nice and warm, and definitely did not taste like packaged chips from the grocery store. The salsa was fresh and delicious, and not too spicy. We ate all of these!!

DSCF2876.jpg

We'll also take a side of guacamole please, but before the meal comes, so we can enjoy it first with the chips, and with the meal later!! I enjoyed the guacamole very much. And I am very picky when it comes to guacamole. I make my own all the time, and I have very high standards for this stuff! I DO NOT eat the packaged guacamole. To me, it tastes too much like they add vinegar or something like that to preserve the green color. For those of you who make your own guac, you would know that overnight it will brown on the top in the refrigerator, since avocadoes brown once the air hits them. This was fresh and delicious! Here's a pic to make you guacamole lovers drool! ;)

DSCF2877.jpg

I decided to order something from the appetizer part of the menu as my lunch entree, and there was no problem with this. The server brought mine over at the same time as DH's entree. I ordered tostadas de tinga, which are tostadas with chipotle chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese and avocado. It came with 2 of them and was the perfect size for me for lunch. A tostada is basically like a flat taco, and these were excellent! Perfect amount of everything on top of these!! I added some guac and they were perfect! Here they are:

DSCF2878.jpg

And DH ordered the tamales. I don't remember what was inside them, maybe pork? There goes that margarita, fogging things up for me again! :rotfl2: I do remember taking a bite and thinking they were good though! DH loved them and was very happy he ordered these:

DSCF2879.jpg

The boys shared a kids' quesadilla entree. It came with 2 small quesadillas, veggies and rice. Perfect for them to share for lunch! This came with a dessert, and the waiter was nice enough to bring ice cream for both boys! Here's DS5's plate, after I split up the entree between them:

DSCF2881.jpg

We really enjoyed this meal. The atmosphere is great, and we sat in the back, right by the railing and the "volcano"! We saw the boats go by from the boat ride. It was an awesome lunch and a great break after touring Future World all morning!

We definitely plan to return to San Angel on our next trip. I know this place gets a lot of negative reviews, but it is not your run-of-the-mill American Tex-Mex restaurant. It has more unique offerings than your typical Don Pablo or On the Border restaurant (both of which we also enjoy, just different). I have never been to Texas, California, or any of the Southwest states, so I have never had true authentic Mexican food, but I thought this food was excellent. Great quality, excellent service, beautiful atmosphere.

After lunch, I was feeling pretty nice from that margarita, and we went on the boat ride in the Mexico pavilion. I would like to go next time before the margarita!! :rotfl2: Seriously though, it was a lot of fun! ;)

Just signed on! Great reviews of the restaurants! Can't wait to read more!

Yay! I finally made it through! I am totally enjoying your reports! You aren't on the Dining Plan or anything, you are just paying OOP right? I think that or the TIW is the way to go. You have all the flexibility to order as little or as much as you want. I notice you guys don't order much dessert, and that's how we are, I'd much rather have appetizers than dessert!

I can't wait to hear the rest of them! What amazes me is how someone as skinny as you can eat so much! I'd be beat with the appetizer! My next dining review will be pathetic as we will hardly be able to eat as well as you and your kids, which are ADORABLE! I love the pic of them hugging each other!

Wow! You're updating like a crazy women! :lmao:

Isn't Sci-Fi wonderful!? I couldn't believe how much we liked it, and we never considered eating there! The atmosphere is so fun and relaxing!

CRT....not sure how much DH will do this...but I would LOVE to dine in that castle...just to say, "Pshht, yeah.... I ate there." :rotfl:

As for San Angel Inn, we never thought about eating here, just because we KNOW how Mexican food 'should' taste, but your food does look amazing...hmmm maybe some more convincing on my end for DH is in order :lmao:

I sooooo know what you mean about fresh vs pre-packaged guac. I love a lot of lime and tomatoes in my guac, and the guac you ordered looks delicious! Along with a nice, big glass of a margarita...drool..

Well I hope you have a great time today at the wedding, and enjoy every second of it! :goodvibes

I had got a bit behind with your reviews (real life got int he way) so just got all caught up.

I am so sad that we didn't try Sanaa when we were at AKV last year - the tandoori chicken looked great.

And we have eaten at 1900 Park Fare for brekkie before but I never noticed all those unusaual/different offerings - might be time to give it another go.

I am glad you enjoyed Sci-Fi since so many people say the atmosphere is better than the food. DH and I had considered this as an option for our DHS day next month.

We paid OOP but we had the TiW card. As a DVC member, I was able to get an AP for $100 off the regular price so I updated my ticket to an AP and bought the TiW card. It worked out very well for us. I will give more details on how much we saved after I finish my reviews.

As far as eating a lot and being thin...I work out a lot, and I only eat a lot like that when I am on vacation. DH and I love desserts, but we would do something like walk a while after dinner, then get a little something at the Boardwalk Bakery or Seashore Sweets (on the BW, they have candy & ice cream) when we were back at the resort. I still gained 7 pounds on this entire trip, which was 18 nights total with other traveling and driving! :scared1:

Thanks for the compliment about the boys! :)

I'm updating so fast because I am home the next few weeks until school starts again! So I have plenty of time to do this, and I am enjoying it! ;)

Yes, we LOVED Sci-Fi! It was amazing, and we thought the food was excellent. I know we only got burgers but everything was great!

I understand how you feel skeptical about going to San Angel. I feel the same way about Italian food while on vacation, and you won't ever catch me eating a bagel at breakfast on vacation, being from Brooklyn and all! We are VERY skeptical about Tutto Italia and the new Via Napoli. Although...I will admit, there is this Italian restaurant in Southern FL called Mario the Baker that we love. The owner is from NYC though! :rotfl:

The wedding was beautiful and everything went smoothly! That cruise ship is amazing and we didn't want to leave! Wish we were sailing with my sister and the others who joined her...oh well, next year.

As far as eating in the castle...not very romantic IMO, except maybe the fact you are eating inside a castle, but like you said, just to experience it once is nice. Maybe when you guys have little ones? ;)

Guacamole. :lovestruc Drooling and making a fool of myself.

That's all I have to say. ;)

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yes, real life sometimes gets in the way of the DIS for me too! ;)

OK, so you didn't try Sanaa last year...now you can plan another trip so you can try it! :rotfl: It was very good, and the resort is beautiful which I don't have to tell you since you stayed there!

1900 PF breakfast was wonderful. We'll be back there next trip for sure! :goodvibes

Ok, so after reading your San Angel review I'll relax and enjoy a marguerita (or 2) and have dinner there. My family thanks you for your wonderful review so they don't have to listen to me worry about this restaurant! Your pictures look wonderful!

Thanks for the great information!:flower3:

I've been lurking and loving your reviews! Thank you for taking the time to do them.

And as a fellow guacamole lover, I have to share a tip (that you may already know). When you make guacamole, save the pit from the avocado and toss it back into the finished guacamole - it slows down the browning! And the more pits, the better - although DH often complains because it makes it look like more guacamole is left than really is.

We did the same thing about a year ago and made two trips out of the TIW card. BTW, we stayed in a 1 br at the BWV and if you don't find any pictures of the room, I could put mine up, I always get pictures in the room before we "spread out" so I can remember what a nice room it is! :goodvibes

Glad I can help! You will love it there! Like I said, not your typical Mexican chain restaurant food, the food there is different but in a good way in my opinion. Very fresh and delicious! And you should definitely relax, the margaritas there help with that! ;)

Oh yes, I know all about leaving the pit in the guacamole! Funny that your DH complains that it looks like there is more than there really is...one thing my DH loved about San Angel is that they don't put a pile of shredded lettuce under the guacamole before they serve it. Many restaurants around here do that, and he can't stand it because he is always disappointed at how quickly it runs out and how much lettuce is under there!

I wish we could make 2 trips out of it. But, we did very well with it. Next July when my AP is about to expire, I want to see if they have any renewal specials like they do this year. Currently, if you have an AP that expires before the end of August 2010, when you renew it, you get 15 months instead of 12! If they have this next summer it would work out very nicely since my AP expires July 13, 2011 and a 15-month renewal would cover the trip in 2012 and cost less than buying the initial AP when we arrive in 2012. We'll see how it works out, but I am not counting on it.

I didn't get great pics of the room because the day we arrived, the room was ready a little late (they gave us a $50 credit on our room charge for this, WITHOUT asking! :thumbsup2), and by the time we got into it, it was almost 4:30pm. We had that 5pm ADR at Chef Mickey's so we basically went into the room, and left for dinner! It would be great if you could post some pics you have! Next time I will make a 6:00 ADR for the first night's dinner, and then if the room is ready a little later, I will have time to take some pics first! Did you stay in a standard view, preferred view, or BW view? We stayed standard view, and we were right across from the bus stop (which I requested), on the third floor (I requested top floor, so not bad at all). We had a view of the Eiffel Tower at Epcot and a wonderful view of some of the fireworks every night from IllumiNations! The boys loved seeing fireworks out on the balcony (or just in the livingroom with the drapes opened)!! It was a lot of fun and I will request this area every time we go! We have enough DVC points in our membership for a 1-bedroom standard view for 10 nights every other year as the boys grow up, and that's how we decided to do WDW, with a different type of vacation in the summer in between WDW trips. As you can tell from my signature, next year's "alternative" vacation will be a cruise!! So excited, we are booking this within the next week! :goodvibes

We had a standard view ground floor room with a view out to Valet parking. If we had been a few floors higher we might have been able to see fireworks, but I didn't know enough to request anything. We bought at SSR several years ago without a plan, and added on at VGC (even though I only live 25 minutes away) before it opened. We plan on buying more points at a few resorts in the next year, our money just has to come through! :lmao:

Anyways, I don't think we had an upgraded room (since I know they are working on upgrading them with flat screens, etc), but here's what it looked like...

We've never really considered it before but I love the setting inside the pyramid

Hope all has gone well at your sister's wedding :goodvibes

Yes, since these pics were taken, they did all the upgrading at BWV. The villas have flat screen TVs, the decor has changed slightly, and the carpeting in the hallway felt very new when walking on it! Nice photos, they really show what a 1-BR is like! We absolutely loved it and wouldn't vacation at WDW with the kids any other way! When we are older and go alone, we will stay in a studio and go more often, especially after we retire!

San Angel is great! And it's very easy to get an ADR there compared to many other places! We really loved it there, can't recommend it enough!

The wedding was beautiful. Thanks so much for asking. We had a small taste of a cruise ship by being on there for a few hours, which makes us even more excited about next summer's cruise! :goodvibes 24-hour food though at my disposal...I better start dieting now and lose some extra pounds! I tend to gain 10 pounds on a cruise that length! :scared1: (9-night cruise)

I do this too and find that it doesn't brown as quickly! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: I have to laugh because last night I made guacamole (what can I say, San Angel Inn inspired me ;) ), and DH was all, "Wow! That's a lotta guacamole." Then I showed him the four pits and he quickly turned into this :sad2: ....:rotfl2:

Alison - Thanks soooo much for posting your pics!! That room looks so nice! Not sure if we could ever afford a 1 BR (unless we get to be DVC members sometime), but I would seriously :lovestruc to stay here soon....bangzoom really convinced me with how nice and close the BW resort was to everything...and seeing how Epcot is our FAV park, why not be close to it all the time!

How would you get over to the MK? Bus only? Or could you walk through Epcot to get to the monorail? Or is there a bus to take you to Epcot in the front and then board the monorail?? So many options, but I know one is the best! :lmao:

Yes the Boardwalk Resort is wonderful, especially the location!! Seriously, we fell in love with the place...so much that if we weren't DVC members and this was our only trip staying there, I would be in a serious depression right now! ;)

As far as getting to MK...we went to MK two days. The first day was an EMH-morning and it was also when we had our dinner at CRT. We drove to the TTC, then had to wait and wait and wait for the monorail to take us over to the MK. We parked the car at 7am but didn't get off the monorail at MK until 7:35. In the afternoon, we took the bus back to BWV at around 1pm. There was a bus waiting when we left MK and we got right on, then it left within about 5 minutes. It was about a 10-minute ride from MK to the resort. BW shares a bus with Swan/Dolphin, so there is one additional stop. We took the bus back to MK for our dinner at CRT, minimal wait for the bus to arrive, then once again, a 10-min. ride to MK. Very easy. Then we just drove back to BWV that evening, but the bus was way more convenient than driving.

We decided for the second MK day, to just take the bus. We had the 8am ADR for Crystal Palace so I was concerned about making it to breakfast on time. We were at the bus stop a few minutes before 7am and only waited a few minutes for a bus. We got to MK at around 7:20! Plenty of time! We took the bus back in the afternoon (about 1:30pm) and it was terrific!

You could theoretically walk through Epcot and catch the monorail, but you enter Epcot in the Int'l Gateway by the countries. It takes a while to walk to the front gates, then to first take the monorail. Personally, I wouldn't do it that way.

If you don't feel like walking to Epcot, the boat goes directly from BW to Epcot! It is coming from DHS, Swan/Dolphin and Yacht/Beach Club. On the way to DHS from BW, you stop at those resorts, but we mostly walked to DHS and to Epcot. We only took the boat to or from Epcot if it was already there and we didn't have to wait, and I only took the boat once with the boys from DHS because it started to rain.

Hi everyone! Well, we're down to the top 5 in my countdown!!!

And, coming in at #5 is......

LES CHEFS DE FRANCE!!!

On our last full day at WDW, we had a lunch ADR at Les Chefs de France at 12pm. We decided to just hang out and enjoy the World Showcase on this day. We got passports for the kids and they had them stamped in each country. We arrived just before the WS opened (opens at 11am), and Canada was our first stop. They got to decorate a mask, and had their passports signed and stamped. Then, we made our way to the UK Pavilion, then France. Of course, I enjoyed looking in all the stores in the WS too! So we had covered 3 different countries already on our journey and it was time to eat!

DS3 decided somewhere in the middle of this trip that he was not going to eat very much, at least not consistently at each meal. For those of you who have (or have had) little kids, you know exactly how a 3-year-old can be when it comes to eating! So, we decided to just order him the cheese puff appetizer from the kids' menu and take it from there. We figured we could always order more food for him if he needed it. Of course, he did NOT need more food, as he hardly even ate this! But, DH and I both tasted it and it was delicious. If he wasn't so stubborn, DS3 would have really enjoyed this, it was right up his alley. Oh well. Here's a pic:

DSCF3090.jpg

DS5, who was the same as DS3 when he was that age (on our last Disney trip!), now eats much more than he used to, and is not as picky. Of course, he decided to go with the hamburger here! :rotfl: He ate it all and he loved it:

DSCF3089.jpg

DH ordered an alcoholic drink, but I can't remember the name of it or exactly what was in it. I do remember that it was made with apple juice and it was an apple flavor drink. He loved it and said it was very refreshing! I was saving myself for a nice Grey Goose lemonade slush later on outside in the heat...and in the longrun I was glad I did, as that was amazing!!

The waiter was training someone when we were there, so we got excellent service! They brought us some hot delicious baguette! This was exactly like I remember the baguette being when I was in the real France 14 years ago!! It was amazing and we ate it all...I was in such awe that I forgot to take a picture, sorry! ;)

DH decided to order the crepe entree with chicken inside, onions and peppers. I asked him how he liked it and he said it was excellent, very delicious. He then commented that it was sort of like eating a french fajita! :lmao: Here's a pic:

DSCF3087.jpg

As for myself, I decided to go with the quiche lorraine for my entree. Wow, this was delicious, and it came with a green salad which was very nice. The crust was flaky, the filling was delicious. Excellent quality cheese in there, and this quiche definitely did NOT taste frozen at all! Some of the best I've ever eaten! Here's a pic:

DSCF3088.jpg

While we were there, the guy was coming around with Remy! I knew they would most likely be there, but I didn't want to tell the boys just in case for some reason we didn't catch them. So we left this as a surprise for them. They were so happy!!! They both LOVE the movie "Ratatouille" and this just made their day!

We had so much fun at Les Chefs de France! It would have been just as good if Remy had not been there. The food was so delicious, and the service was wonderful. We are definitely returning here on our next trip, just don't know yet if it will be for lunch or dinner! Highly recommended if you have not yet tried this place!!
