Did your political views change as you got older?

Inspired by the politics/age poll.

I know in high school / early college I was very liberal. Later in college and early adulthood I was moderate, now at 27 (closer to 28) I am moderate leaning towards conservative.

I wonder if other people's views changed (either way) as they got older?

Did yours?

Not sure -- I didn't have many political views when I was younger, so I guess my answer would be a qualified yes. :)

I know I was highly influenced by the teachers I had in school, as my daughter is today. Yes they have changed 180 degrees!

You must be my long lost twin! Same thing here. At 31, I'm decidedly conservative.

I was brought up in a conservative household. As the years go by, I keep getting more and more liberal. So I guess it can work the opposite way too.:sunny:

I am not one of those people who really take a big part in politics. I am mostly republican but there are a few things from both sides that appeal to me. I just pray that the right person will be elected and cast my vote.

I think my views have changed in the sense that when I was younger I really did not care what happened and now I know that my freedom is something to cherish.

For me, they haven't. I was raised in a very liberal household -- its in my blood.

DH, on the other hand, started out somewhat liberal and is now a staunch conservative. Makes for good political discussion, I'll say that! :)

I definitely have become more conservative as I have gotten older. For me, having children made me more conservative.

I thought I was going to be such a 'cool' mom...LOL

Yes, I used to be quite liberal when I was younger but became more conservative as I became a tax payer and connected the dots. I actually voted for George McGovern because I didn't like Nixon and was concerned about Watergate prior to the second election. After than I voted for Ford and then by the time Reagan came along, his message made more sense to me than the president who was holding himself hostage in the White House. Interestingly enough, my voting age boys are all conservative Republicans.

Definately more conservative as I have gotten older. Old friends from my teen years remember me as a way liberal hippy type chick. Totally not me now!

i grew up in a very liberal household and as a teenager i was more liberal than my parents (truly impressive! :p ). now i am less liberal than them, but definitely not conservative. dh was very conservative when he came to college, but his views have gotten more middle of the road as well. i think we have had a moderating influence on each other.

I formed my political views very young and they've remained largely intact: conservative. I have changed my stance on capital punishment however: I can no longer support it. Humans should not kill humans.

I was very liberal in college (the '60's) and more of a moderate through my middle years, but I am again a liberal.

:D

My views have changed since I was younger. I'm almost 28 and when I was in my late teens and early twenties I was rather liberal. I am still liberal on some issues, but I have now taken a conservative approach on others. Actually, I don't even know if I could say it's a conservative outlook or a liberal outlook. I have noticed that I tend to not have an opinion one way or another on certain things. What I mean is that I am not as outspoken on issues as I was when I was younger, when i felt that my voice needed to be heard.

It's not to say that I don't care or I don't have an opinion. I'm just not as quick to speak up or speak out as I would have several years ago.

It's said that with age, comes wisdom. I hope that this is the case for me. I do not look at myself as knowing all that I need to know and therefore able to convey my views onto others as truth. I am simply a form of matter that has learned to hold his tongue in moments of outrage and anger (most of the time) as well as realizing that I'm not here to judge any of you, no matter how tempting it is (although I do fail sometimes).

I still have a lot to learn and I can see myself becoming more conservative in my outlook, at least politically.

That being said, I am not voting for Bush in November. Enough said.

I have always been pretty liberal through my high school and college years. Now in my middle 30's I am becoming a little (and I stress a little) more conservative but it all depends on the issue.

I remember sitting in the kitchen with my dad when I was about 17 and my dad rubbing his head frustrated saying "You're going to be a democrat aren't you?". I am still definitely a liberal and I will be 29 on Friday. My father, however, is now more of a liberal at 50. The Bush Administration pushed him over the edge. ;)

EsmeraldaX, I'm like you.

I used to be a certified bra-burner. Marched in Washington during the 1st Bush administration for any liberal cause. As I get older (did I mention today is my birthday :p ), I'm afraid I'm becoming more and more conservative. I'm afraid if I get any older I might vote for...gasp...a republican!

edited to spell your name correctly...my father always says, "geniuses can't spell." I've been hangin' on to that!;)

Happy Birthday to US!! I will be 34!

I was a die hard republican. Voted for Bush Sr. my first election and again in 1992...then I started thinking that the Democrats made alot of sense and that I agreed with their issues. I offically changed my party in 1994. My DH says I am a conservative democrat...LOL..I guess that might be true!
