Did your first trip home meet expectations?

We recently purchased a resell at VWL, after staying at the lodge for several trips. I am so excited, and am afraid my expectations are too high, and might be disappointed. Was your first trip home a WOW!!!!! experience? Was there any disappointment? We've always had the best times and greatest memories of our trips, and maybe I'm worrying over nothing. Please share your experiences and your reactions to your first trip home.

I can tell you, even after being a member for a long time, each and every trip is still "WOW!"

We were renting a 2BR at the VWL through Disney CRO from Saturday through Friday. On Tuesday we took the tour and purchased that same day. I used the points for that night through Friday night, which saved us a ton of money. The dollars we were going to use to pay for the room we instead used to pay the downpayment. Believe me, I said WOW!

Thank you for posting sucsh great replies! We aren't going until next September. It has been hard waiting, and you guys just made it nearly impossible to wait that long!

We purchased at VWL the day that it went on sale. Our first trip home was later that year to OKW (trying to save on points for a large family trip he following year).

We walked into the 2BR at OKW and were blown away. The size of the room, the decor, the setting was just perfect. From that moment on I have never doubted our decision.

Still haevn't stayed at VWL. Not planning on it anytime soon either. We are now OKW folks. I guess Rich was right!

We had our first trip home last month. Only one disappointment....that we had waited so long to buy!!!! Why didn't we do it much sooner!!!! It was soooo wonderful. We're going back in 69 days!!!!

We have stayed at all but SSR and like Chuck said... each has been a wow!!! With the except of VB.... we were very underwhelmed by VB, but we will give it another go in a couple of years when the kids are older.

But beware..... after you have a couple of DVC trips under your belt.... regular hotel rooms are a disapointment ::yes::

We had a fine first trip that lived up to expectations - but I'd allowed my expectations to be moderated. The room was nice - but a BWV room (or any room other than OKW) the living area is kind of tight, but I did expect that. The decor is rather plain - I understand at one point they had things like silk plants, but those "walked away" and were not replaced.

The Master Bedroom was wow! Plenty of room and very nice.

We had a couple of gotchas - getting the stove to work (the burners were unplugged. Getting the DVD player to work. Things that could probably be easily solved with a "room manual." i.e. before you call maintenance on the stove, check to make sure the burners are plugged in. It was a little disappointing not to find a room manual. Maintenance answered our questions promptly - and we had them in the room once for something (can't remember what) promptly - however, wow! would have never involved needing to call them.

The room was clean and well maintained, but slightly worn. The master bed had too much of an indent in it for my husband - but we went through three matresses in seven years - he is a picky guy with matresses (we now have a sleep number bed - that seems to be working better). The hideabed was functional for the kids - but I wouldn't want to spend a night there. But my expectation was "hideabed" - so it met expectations. Some people have posted here things that could have raised my expectations of the hideabed - if I'd have "bought" that, I'd let adults sleep there. As it stands (these are the old beds I'm talking about - I have high hopes that the new beds will be better), I think they are fine for children, but I wouldn't expect my mother in law to spend a week on it.

My biggest disappointment may have been with the BW View. It was nice, but I guess I'd expected more beauty and less noise. After all the fuss over that view, I can't really understand it. Nice, yes. Worth yelling at a desk clerk or getting to the resort at six in the morning (as was happening before it became at guarenteed room) - don't get it.

We'd taken my mother in law and her sister - they certainly were wow'd by the room. But then we took them to the GF for dinner - and they gave us a good natured hard time for being so "cheap."

I knew the room wouldn't get cleaned during our stay - which was fine. I did pull out the vaccuum once, but the room stayed pretty clean and making up beds wasn't a big deal. I think I've come down on the side of "housekeeping is more bother than its worth"

I certainly feel we got a great value - I'm not complaining. But I would recommend moderating your expectations.

Our first trip home was last December. We went on a Carnival Cruise that left from Miami, and in the fall we bought into DVC thinking that our first trip home would be to Vero Beach for Spring Break.

Since we would be in Florida, both DH and I began to think that maybe we should see if a studio would be available at the VWL after the cruise. It was, those weekend points must have been why, we were about 2 months out. I signed up for the VWL Christmas tree and bought tickets for the last MVMCP of the season.

We read about Dumpster View and worried, what are we doing?

Then we saw the Lobby decorated. We mentioned to the CM that we were expecting a tree, she looked it wasn't in storage. Well, it was in our room. That was Dec. 19th and when we got back from the party we had a message that our new little grandson was born!

Now, everyone at the villas isn't jumping up and down for joy, but we were, we are, we are very happy with our DVC experience.

We purchased our Beach Club Villas points over the phone, sight unseen. My husband & I love the world showcase and were just thrilled about the idea of walking there from our hotel. We had dined at the Beach Club, but had never stayed at the resort. We bought 170 points because were a little hesitant about if we'd like it or not.

We banked our points so we could get a 2 bedroom this last June. It was SPECTACULAR! Everyday, my husband and I woke up saying..."This is definitely one of the best purchases we've ever made". We loved the extra space, the refrigerator, the Washer & Dryer were the best!!! Not to mention, I had no idea how much we'd love the Beach Club. Stormalong Bay, we could have spent time there everyday. It never got too crowded and it was so clean!

Now, we're going to the Grand Floridian for Xmas and my only thought is...Oh I'm going to miss that Washer & Dryer!

Every trip has more than met our expectations. We have stayed at BCV, BWV and VWL. Our first trip was to VWL, and we had a perfect location near the elevator and best of all, with a bay view over the quiet pool. Next time, amazingly, we got the same room. It really did make it feel like home. Now my only problem is to try and downgrade my family's expectations for the next trip. They won't know how to act if we get a different room.

We purchased at VWL last year and stayed there in December. We loved it and are looking forward to our stay this year. The decorations for Christmas are beautiful. You'll love it there.

Welcome to the VWL Girlie Goofy, you have great taste!::yes::

We had stayed at WL a few times before the VWL were built. It was our favorite place to stay and we could not wait till they were built. We could not purchase until after Jan, so we rented a 1 br from CRO in Dec (the most we have ever paid for a hotel room by the way) to make sure we loved it before we made the plunge. Well, we loved it and we bought in.

After we purchased we tried a studio. Bought more points. ::yes::

We got back from my first trip home last night about 8:00 p.m. I can tell you that while some things were not perfect, the trip on the whole was GREAT! No regrets! In fact, I already have the add-on bug!

On our first trip we are expectations were more then met. We stayed two nights in an OKW 2br and 3 nights in a 2br at BCV.
When we first walked into the OKW room we so excited and couldnt believe how nice it was. IMO the best rooms in DVC due to the size of the living room/kitchen area, and the nice big whirlpool tub on the master bedroom side. Having a W/D in the rooms makes it nice by not having to pack so much. We enjoyed our stay there very much. At BCV we liked our room alot but liked the living area better at OKW. But it in no way made our stay there less enjoyable. Its so true about the location of BCV. Its great. We had an awesome view of of SSE from our balcony(I could look at it all night) and with Epcot becoming one of our favorite parks it was great being able to walk there or MGM from our villa. Plus as they all say SAB was alot of fun and a great place to swim, relax, and unwind after being in the parks.
Also like laurabears said "But beware..... after you have a couple of DVC trips under your belt.... regular hotel rooms are a disapointment" Because it is so true. My wife even said"I dont think I can stay in a regular hotel room on vacation anymore". So since I cant afford rooms like DVC outside of DVC it looks like I am going to have to go to WDW every year. Yay No complaints here. :D :D

Oh my yes!!! We were wowed.

Be bought OKW site unseen, we were at Vero in an Inn room when we made the decision.

The next summer was our first trip home. We had a 1 bedroom at OKW. We walked in and couldn't believe the amount of room. I was especially amazed at the number of windows in the villa. I walked around and counted 10!!!! Our teenagers couldn't believe that this is where we were going to stay. We were used to stays at the All-Stars, and moderates. We had wonderful vacations staying there, but knew that now the kids were teenagers that we wanted more hotel amenties since we were no longer park commandos. Teenagers like sleeping in and having nice meals. They are less excited about standing in line for characters, but they do humor me sometimes.

We are staying in a 2 bedroom, for the first time, with the inlaws. I know we will be wowed again. Yes, I'll probably count windows again. :hyper:

I forgot to touch on this in my last post. Being that we have gone so many times we know what we like and dont like in the parks and only spend about 3 hours in a park, and we no longer go to two parks a day. So we have alot more time to relax and it sooo nice staying in a 1 br villa instead of going back to a value or moderate room and basically if your in your room have basically have to lay on the bed. With DVC its so great being able to sit on your balcony or sit on the living room. DVC really improved the quality of our vacations.

Now that I think of it this really doesnt touch the subject that much but it was something I thought of on our first trip

I agree 100% southtown. Just hanging around the resort is so much more fun now (than at a the regular resorts). Just a few hours for the parks (if any at all) and we've had it.

All the more reason to give us an AP discount! That way I will visit the parks each day and spend more $$ there, otherwise we are more inclined to spend it off site, or cook or something silly like that.

We got back from our first trip home in July and I couldn't be happier. We just had so much fun in our 2bdrm! We had enough room to spread out and not be in one another's hair and the resort (BCV) was so wonderful with it's proximity to Epcot and the different things to do on the Boardwalk. I'm already planning our next trip in December 2005! It just seems so far away! We didn't feel rushed to do "everything" at the parks and just hung out at the room/resort some days just relaxing with the family. It was what memories were made of.
