did you wait a while after your Disney wedding to have your at-home reception? we're trying to decide what to do.. our wedding is on Feb. 14, 2008, we'll be getting home around Feb. 20 and we could have a reception as early as Feb. 29. The only problem we're running into is we live in PA.. and we live kinda in the mountains so we usually get hit with a lot of snow around that time (my b-day is Feb. 28, and my birthday plans have been ruined many times due to snow! i hate it!:headache:) so we're worried about getting a storm and guests not wanting to go out in a blizzard for our reception (roads get REAL bad in our area when it snows!) Also, we're afraid it might be TOO close to returning from our wedding to be having to get the reception stuff ready. But we're afraid that if we wait until April/May when it warms up to have a reception that we won't feel like going thru renting the tux/getting the dress steamed/cleaned.. and getting back into the wedding mode again. We just can't decide!! :confused3 What do you guys suggest or what did you do?

We were married November 14th-- came home about a week later and had our at-home reception December 2nd. We took care of everything before hand and basically just showed up for our own party. A lot of people wait months before a reception!

Hi, we get married on feb 12 (2 days before you!), at whitehall and patio, gf, than dp at uk lower terr. Saying that, im actually looking at ariels also, as i really liked the look of that as well when i saw the photos! so much choice and so little decisions!:scared1:
Where are you getting married, and where are you staying?:)

We're getting married in March 2008 and are planning our at-home reception at the beginning of June. We wanted to have all of our photos, etc. back to share with our guests. Also, we're in Michigan and wanted to guarantee nice weather to utilize an outside area at our hall.

we "planned" to have a at home reception at home about a week after we got home, but we had a great opportunity on a real estate purchase, so we canceled everything & went for the home
but we would have done the week after & the planning was running rather smoothly.
Have you asked some family what they think...just for an idea??

We're getting married October 27, 2007 and our at home reception will be Nov. 10-the week we return from our Disney honeymoon. We were debating when to have it, as we didn't want it too close to the holidays and we wanted to avoid any inclement weather during the winter months.

We are getting married January 3rd, and are not even thinking about a reception until March. We want to have our pictures and video back. :bride:

we're getting married at 10 am. at the Yacht Club and we're probably (not 100% sure though) staying at All Stars for the entire trip (we have small kids traveling with us, we have found in recent years, that seems to suit the little ones.. and the budget.. the best) maybe we'll see you down there!! :goodvibes

we did ask my family (my DF's family could care less) and they're also kinda torn haha.. i'm too much like my parents, but they'll be just as happy as long as i'm happy, so not much help there!! haha i'm REALLY leaning towards waiting a few months after so i'm sure the weather will be warmer! i would HATE to have my reception, get a huge snow storm and then have no guests!! :scared1:

I'm getting married on your birthday, but we aren't doing a reception until about 6 months later. All the family lives in Michigan, we live in Florida, so scheduling is a bit of a problem. Plus we want to have all the photos/video together.

I am getting married on June 25 and having my at-home reception 6 days later on July 1. My at-home reception is actually in my hometown in NJ. The reason we are having it so soon is b/c of DF's school schedule, it's the only time we can travel up there until December. Our second at-home reception will be at DF's parents house and that won't be until September. We'll hopefully have all our pictures back then and be a bit more relaxed ;)

A BIG reason we are having a DFTW is that our wedding size will be smaller and more comfortable for us. The idea of an at-home-reception scares me but we have one in the works. We are dubbing it our at-home-celebration and will be doing something much more informal such as a cookout. Our wedding is 01-05-08 and in order to have a cookout in PA (where I was born and raised) we obviously have to wait a few months. I haven't encountered any problems with waiting for the reception and it takes pressure off of our guests who want to be at our DFTW but can't. It gives them something to look forward to (and gives me another reason to buy a cute dress).

We are getting married in Disney on July 17 and having a reception at home on August 11. My fiances parents are hosting the reception so hopefully this gives them enough time to drive back from Florida and prepare for the reception.

We haven't really started planning, but we know it will be pretty casual. It is going to be a big barbeque and party at their farm with a couple kegs of beer. We are also planning to hopefully have our wedding blessed in the Catholic Church that weekend.

It is my fiances grandmothers 92 Birthday this year so we will be celebrating that on the sunday of that weekend. We also have plans to show a movie on the side of the barn on the friday night using the projector we are having put into our new home. It should be a fun weekend.

Our at-home reception was about a month after our wedding :bride: It was more for my husband's side of the family that couldn't make it, I didn't really care if we had it or not (actually I didn't really want it..) but my mother-in-law wanted it. So I let her do all the inviting, planning, and paying for it ;) (i did do the decorating though!). Anyway, we didn't have our professional video or photos back yet, but we had enough of our own photos to show people. It was fun! I would wait and do it when it's convenient, spread out the wedding fun! :)
