I just read on another post that the members voted on MS hours and that's why MS isn't open on weekends. We've only been members for 2 1/2 years, but we certainly have never been asked for any imput on MS hours. You long-time members: did you ever vote on an issue that pertained to MS hours?

I certainly didn't. I have been a member since 93.

however I like the hours that they work - it insured a good staff to work with and a time when most people can get them.

if this doesn't work for you - you can always fax or email them - both will be back to you in 48 hours.

okay for very popular times fax and email won't work.

I've been a member since 1997 and I never received a "vote" on anything, just requests to fill out surveys regarding my visit. I don't mind the hours as they are now so I would most likely have voted "no" if given the chance.

We have been members since '92 and I don't ever remember getting anything in regards to MS hours. I do recall receiving surveys but with nothing about the hours of MS.

The hours are working fine for us...

The MS hours are fine with me as they are. I never need anything "immediately", as I plan my trips well in advance. To increase hours to 24/7 as some have indicated would more than quadruple our cost for reservation CMs, based on a 40 hour work week and 24/7 requiring staffing 168 hours per week.

I have used email resies in the past and everything has been fine. If I am trying to book for a busy season, I MAKE the time to call during MS business hours.

Online booking would be 365/24/7

But I wouldnt mind it if MS was open later... maybe until 7pm, but I am not willing to pay for it.

I didn't vote. I don't mind the hours now.

It would be nice to have a skeleton staff (or specific DVC knowledgeable persons at CRO) available on the weekends to help members if required.

MS has never been open on weekends and I don't recall ever seeing a vote about it -- also a member since '93.

There was a time when they reduced MS's hours and had them close for lunch. I think it was something like 12:00-2:00 that they were closed every day. That was not a good move and they reversed that decision a year or so later.

I don't recall any surveys/questions about Member Services hours. I don't want to see my dues increased for additional hours at Member Services.

I've been a member 5 years and have never been asked to vote on anything. I've heard of them doing surveys, but the results are not binding so I would not call them "votes".

I never voted either but would also like to agree with Laura. An online system would do the trick. Overall the hours work for me except for the fact that I hate calling WDW-Dine at 7:00 A.M. for PS because MS isn't open yet.

Disney has a strange way to construe answers to questions it has asked in the past. For example when it did away with early entry a few years back (which has now returned), it conducted park surveys asking quests whether they would like to see more characters at the hotels and parks. People answered yes and Disney justified doing away with ee by saying it was adding character mornings to the resorts which was what people told Disney they really wanted instead of ee; of course, none of the survey questions asked whether people wanted characters rather than ee, just whether they wanted characters.

I suspect the same is happening here. I do recall being asked (before MS added late night hours on Thursday) whether adding such to the existing 9 to 5 hours is something I would prefer and of course said yes. Probably in Disney's view that means I prefered late night Thursday to weekend hours.

Also, for those concerned that adding weekend hours would raise dues: It won't because of the way MS gets its money to operate. It has four sources -- a $1 per member fee (which cannot be raised); a substantial portion of the rental money from renting units in last 60 days before occupancy that are not reserved by members; fees charged for exchanges to other resorts; and an unspecifried portion of the Management Fee in your dues which is a set percentage of all other dues charged (and the percent cannot be raised).

drusba: I never knew about the $1.00 fee. Is that on a yearly or monthly basis? Or is it based on reservations made? It just doesn't seem like much considering there are 80,000 members. 80K just doesn't go far in the corporate world.

Your reasons would also seem to explain why DVC won't add weekend hours. Doing so wouldn't come out of our pockets but from their profits if I understand your points correctly.

We have been members since 1998 and we have never had the opportunity to vote on the operational hours of MS.

We've never voted on the hours for Member Services in the 10 years we've been members.

Maybe they were talking about about the cast members having voted on whether they'd rather work weekends or spend some time with their families.

Just a thought.

is this the sort of thing that would be voted on at resort meetings and if you didn't go you wouldn't get to vote?

imo, having just experienced an adjusted vacay due to frances, i would like to see someone available on weekends for members that are doing a disney vacay, not really for ressies, but guest services type of issues. like some others that i saw posting around here we tend to check in to the resort on the weekend and it would be nice to be able to speak to someone if needed.

No. AFAIK, there have never been any votes / surveys done on DVC issues at member meetings, including the annual condo meetings.

FWIW, I believe our contracts say that DVC has complete discretionary power in matters pertaining to the management/operation of the resorts. It's not a democracy. Believe the only thing we can do is vote them out as the management company, but if we do that, there are all sorts of ramifications.

Best wishes -
