Did you think your first contract would be your only contract?

Nope. I knew I wanted more going in. Couldn't afford more at the time though so.....

Well, yes, the initial buy in was 230 points, which was enough for nearly a month in a studio at OKW in 1992. But that was followed quickly by 3 add ons bringing the total to 345. After we stayed in a one bedroom, it was rare for us to get a studio.

yes, first contract at BLT was for 220 points in 2009. It took less than 6 months to realize not nearly enough to meet our needs. We now have a total of 5 contracts for 590 points.

We bought 500 at SSR last year. We were spoiled by the "Double" (i.e. 2020 UY) points the first year so now we are already in a borrow from the next UY phase. But, I think we will do a cash stay to get points back in balance before adding on.

We absolutely did, especially since The Vacation Club (now Old Key West) was the only purchase available at the time in 93. We never would have seen it expanding like it has, and we NEVER would have thought we would buy at 3 other resorts over the years. The way DVC has worked for us has been amazing, and we've made other purchases based on our changing lives. We've had different 'favorite' locations over the years - when the kids were young, when the kids were older, now that we usually travel without the kids - and who knows what happens if/when grandkids come! Then those monorail resorts might be more interesting again! But we figured OKW and done - didn't turn out that way, and we're very glad.

No.
I thought we would start with a 50 pointer and keep adding small contracts as we got extra money.

When I first bought in in 2005, yes. But after just a couple of trips...nope.

No....bought the first one so we could buy the second as soon as that resort went up for sale

No. I would have purchased VGC for my first (only?) contract, but it wasn't selling yet. So I bought 160 points at AKV and then another 160 points when VGC went on sale.

At this point I don't plan on buying any more points, either direct or resale. If Disney/DVC keep going in the direction they've been lately, I expect to sell the AKV contract at some point and keep VGC.

No. I am pretty conservative fiscally, I’d targeted AKV as my first contract, I’d stayed in a room there & liked the resort & the relatively low cost of resale points there, however, just to be sure, when Disney was offering a 40% discount for cash stays there I stayed in a 1 br. because that was the villa size I planned to stay in. At that time there was no Poly or VGF. After that stay I bought half the points I figured I’d need at AKV to get a feel for how the DVC system worked for me.

The plan was to get the other half of the points I wanted at BWV since I liked staying at the YC in my pre DVC days, but I disliked the BCV’s location tucked in behind the main BC resort, so I used some of my AKV points to stay a couple of nights in a 1 br. at BWV. Meanwhile VGF opened so I added staying a few nights in a 1 br. there w/ those AKV points since I‘d loved staying in regular GF rooms previously.

After the ‘trying resorts of interest’ trip I knew the second half of my points were going to be for VGF, so I bought there.

Then a few years later I added a few points at AKV because I decided 2 br.s were nicer than 1 br.s there, so that was an unplanned add on. I’m still deciding whether I’ll add on at VGF to jump from 1 to 2 br.s there.

W/ my previous purchases I’d wait until my checking account accumulated enough unspent money to pay for a contract & then buy one. Although I’m at that point again, I’m unsure that I want to throw that cash DVC’s way due to the changes at DVC & at WDW & may instead just increase & upgrade my other travels :)

Nope. We bought a small contract with the intention of adding on several small contracts to get the points we needed at HHI and figured we'd add on at BRV at some point. BWV add on was a surprise, though. It just made sense to be close to Epcot for a split stay.

No. We knew we needed 200 points (7 nights, 1BR unit, BWV in Jan) ... yet our first contract was 150 pts with next year's reservation already booked via II exchange against other timeshare. Thus, we had three years of banking to tide us over until we needed to either purchase another contract or start borrowing.

Nope! I bought resale at BRV so I could immediately add on direct at BLT and didn’t want to have to get the 160 minimum at the time.

Once we added on, we sold the BRV. Of course, slowly built it to 800 we have today with another 80 to 100 at VGF if the price works!
