Did you start Back to School Shopping yet?

DD is so ready to buy school supplies. School starts in 1 month! We haven't receieved a list yet and will wait on one before we go.
As far as clothes go, we won't be buying much of anything until Oct. She'll be in shorts and capris until then. I have to save until then because she needs all new pants this year as she has had a growth spurt.

OP: You are WAY ahead of me! Good for you! :woohoo:

:lmao: :lmao: No I'm not, I don't any little ones to buy for anymore! My dd is away at College, and it is on her now! We pay her tuiton, as far as clothes, paper, pens, etc. she has to buy them.... :teeth:

I don't even want to think about it. We sold our house and the closing as of right now isn't until August 17th. My kids start school the next Monday. We are working on packing up the house right now. The last thing I want/need is school supplies to buy and pack. I can just see them getting placed in a box marked kitchen or something and me not finding them until a year from now! There is a very good chance that they will move up our closing to the end of July or early August. I hope the do because I would like to be able to get the supplies afer we move.

Our first grader starts on July 18th. I'm trying to wait for the Florida sales tax break to buy most of her clothes and things, but I had to buy a couple of clothes items because she has a uniform this year.

I've bought cloths off of ebay. I found I can get them cheaper on there now before everyone starts looking closer to school time. I'm done, all but 1 pair of shoes for my oldest. :teeth:

They start so quickly! My dd is in a Catholic high school, and the girls aren't allowed to wear skirts, so it's easy getting her clothes. :)

Back to School supplies have been on my mind all week. Walmart looks like they are having a good sale on supplies so I will be heading over there this evening. I usually don't take the kids with me to school shop because I will always end up overbuying. I will work on the clothes shopping over the next couple of weeks. My kids are dying for those shoes that have the wheels in the heels. I have to go to the mall and set out a search for those.

When is that going to be this year?

Summer vacation has barely begun here  . DD's last day of school was June 23rd - I still haven't cleaned out her backpack.

Luckily I picked up extra lunch boxes last fall for 75 cents and she has a good rolling backpack so the 2 most important things for 2nd grade are taken care of.

Back of school shopping won't reach a frenzied pitch here until mid-August.

i am soooooo glad our tiny private school budgets all school supplies into our tuition (so all we have to have is paper/pencils for home) :thumbsup2 . as far as school clothes-we have indian summers that go until october or early november so it makes no sense to buy warmer clothes this early. i just go through the kid's closets and designate which summer clothing is acceptable for school use.

about all i'll have to get is a couple of new lunch boxes, maybe backpacks-i hate the things- stuff just gets lost in them, and since they only walk a short distance from the classroom to my car it isn't going to kill them to just carry their books-so we'll see, and new sneakers.

once the school year kicks into gear i'll start scouting out stuff for the winter months, and by then the kids can clue me in on what NOT to buy ('ewwwww mom that's so babyish!' ).

I just finished up a couple of hours ago!! I have been buying things off her list a little at a time and when Office MAX here went out of business I stocked up on some things then. I went into Walmart today and saw the crayons and glue at 20 cents so I doubled up on everything and hopefully will have some for next year also!!! I bought some of those XL Ziploc bags and put all the kleenex, sanitizer, glue, etc in it for her to take to school. The teachers here want to kids to take everything in at one time at the beginning of school. DD is so ready for school to start!!! GA will have some tax-free days coming up but it is so crowded that weekend I would rather pay the tax and get the stuff before it is picked over!!

The kids start here August 4th and I go back July 31st (with meetings and grocery orders due in a couple of weeks.) I have to say that this year I am not very excited for the new year. We are getting a new Principal and assistant principal AND we are getting the 2nd graders this year so that will be another 200 kids to feed!! I still cry about our Principal not getting his contract renewed and I am trying very hard to look positive but it will be hard. I did go to the teacher school supply store today and got some new posters and such so I guess I am "getting there"!!!

I wait until October to buy clothes too. Usually they only need shorts until then and the occasional pants but they usually have a pair or two from the previous year that work. DD usually wants something new for the first day of school so she gets a new shirt to wear with some shorts she has. They boys don't care.

I always buy tons of extra paper, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, pencils, hand sanitizer and kleenx and keep them in a cabinet at home. My dad always told me to buy extras if we could to help out the teachers so they won't have to spend their money on extras for the class. I 'm the supply mom!! :thumbsup2

This teacher says thanks Coolbeans!

Not yet.. but planning on heading to Walmart tomorrow for school supplies.. I decided to wait until tax free day here for the actual clothes.. so many places have great deals that weekend.. even with fighting the crowds it'll be worth it..

Thats when ours ended too...but I don't clean out the backpack, the packback, lunch box and snack box go right in the trash the last day of school and she starts out fresh for the new school year. This year she is going into second grade so its no more backpack for her-to babyish! All the "big kids" carry messengar bags, not backpacks LOL!
We get their list for the supplies they need for Sept the end of May so I know what she needs, just haven't gotten them yet. Usually its the same junk, folders, 75 pencils, markers, colored pencils, babywipes, a box of ziplock bags, 3 boxes of tissues, etc...soon they will make us start sending in toilet paper!!!

I haven't started officially yet, just pick up things when I see them on sale.

Clothes are easy since DD wears uniforms--black/blue pants and white shirts with collars. This will be the last year though, next year she will be in high school :scared1: I think I better start saving my money now for clothes :rotfl:

I went to The Children's Place today to buy shorts for my son to replace a pair that got ruined(tell me why a Rec program would use NON washable paint with a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds? ) and they had great sales 50% off already reduced prices. I got 2 pairs of jean shorts for $5 each,a plain green tee for $2 and a striped tee for $4.

Anyway, while I was there I saw an adorable tiered black corduroy skirt for DD that I just had to buy, so i guess I have started back to school shopping.

I also stopped in TDS and she picked out her lunchbox, I would have bought her backpack there too, but she wants an LL Bean backpack, so that will wait.

We don't go back until after labor Day so I don't need to shop for ages yet.

Last year, the PTO had so much money left over that they bought all of the kids' school supplies for the year. I need to ask my SIL if they are doing that again this year. I will stock up on supplies for doing homework, though.

I have plenty of shirts, sweaters and pullovers for DS, mostly bought them during season closeouts last winter. He may need a few new turtlenecks if last year's don't fit. And DS will need new jeans and lots of them (6 or 7 pairs).

DS is starting Kindergarten this fall and I'm trying to decide whether I want to invest $50-$60 in a good backpack from Lands End or Eddie Bauer or whether I want to go the cheap route for a couple years.

Words of Wisdom from debster:

If you shell out the bucks for the LL Bean, or Lands End, make sure it's not too 'young'. For Kindergarten, we got DS an LL Bean Backpack with a Lizard embroidered on it. It still looks brand new and DS will be in 4th grade in Sept, but he doesn't like to use it anymore for school, because it's for "little kids" (In his words). He used a cheap one for 2nd grade and part of 3rd grade. We just found a great LL Bean pack on sale that will last him for years, and won't be too young.

Just about all his school supplies are bought too. We got the list on the last day of school, and I went and got them all last night. We only have to get a calculator and pencil box and he's done, and now I don't have to worry about racing around at the end of the summer.

For the kindergarten backpack route, let him pick out a cheap one now with whatever character he wants. It will most likely last for kindergarten and first grade then get the nice one after that. By 3rd/4th grade he will need a larger backpack, kindergarten/first grade they don't bring that much stuff home usually and the larger packs are HUGE on them.
