in the July issue of the UK edition of Good Housekeeping the paragraph about the secret of successful dieting? According to two separate American studies you maximise your chances of success by setting a realistic target weight and ..........wait for it - slimming with friends or joining a group! So that's what we are all doing right to be so successful.

Apparently those who are members of a group lost an average of 8lbs more than those who dieted alone.

Absolutely! As long as we believe, we can do it! You know, Birds of a feather and all that! Common goals and support are priceless when it comes to successful lifestyle changes. Look at how successful 12 step programs are. They couldn't work without the group dynamic. The combination of subtle (sometimes not so subtle;) ) pressure from group members, and infinite understanding and patience, is the MAGIC behind these types of programs. We definately have the foundation of a great support group, and our successes and increasing membership support that.
Congrats to us all for seeing in ourselves, and eachother, the ability to make it happen, even if it takes forever. A recent study, (and I'm sorry, I don't have a citing for this) shows that even if you are trying to lose weight, exercise, cut cholesteral, whatever your bit is, you are decreasing your chances of a lethal event, even if you don't actually succeed in meeting your target. That is why we.....NEVER SURRENDER!

Keep the Faith!

I definitely believe that!! I have had so much success thanks to this board!! I know that I have lost the weight myself, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without the motivation and support of friends here!! :)

It's so true! I'm especially lucky that 3 of my WISH buddies are also my sisters. They were the ones that not only gave me encouragement, but also convinced me to journal what I eat. They have been incredibly helpful as I try to figure out my WW points/correct measuring of food, etc. I've seen how great their successes have been, and I now feel like I really CAN do this. I'm not a fan of "dieting", but just writing everything down has made me more aware of what I'm eating. I was not emotionally motivated when I first joined WISH to journal ... now I am, and it is all due to the them, and the rest of my WISH support group! I think it's especially cool that WISH members are able to give each other motivation and support, even though we've never met one another. I look forward to the 1/2 marathon when I'll finally be able to meet some of my wonderful WISH friends. :)

I agree. Because of the WISH (and Fitday) I KNOW I can do it!
I'll be walking on that Magic this Nov 20lbs lighter (35 if you count what I lost last fall).

And thanks to my friend Tammie

Wow Sue I just KNOW that we're ALL gonna succeed now. With lots and lots of old and new buddies to help me along the way - Fantastic :)

WISH is a great help, isn't t? I believe that study must be true, look how well everyone on WISH has been doing.

Have a support group available makes all the difference in the world. I'm so glad that I am part of the magic of WISH.
