Did you see this!!!!

And we missed seeing you this year, too!! :goodvibes
Check out the mileage game, Kim. You can still sign up, log miles as a substitue. We'd love to have that smiling face around here more!!

I REALLY missed you guys too!!! The weekend of the Marathon events, I stayed away from the DIS because I was really was hurt that I couldn't run. I peeked in here sent a silent well wishes for support to you guys and quickly got off because I really wanted to be with my extended family sweating it out two weekends ago :) But nothing is going to stop me in 2009 "I WILL BE THERE" :thumbsup2

sk8ing mom...I see...just reread your profile thingy that says you are 4K miles from AK...I was reading it as AK being 4K miles from WDW! duh.

Yes, Ketchikan is rainy. But I'm only up there 4-5 weeks a year.
I suppose there is a bit more opportunity for triathlon in Virginia for you, though, than in AK! Are you doing any of the Disney tris? I'll be down for the 70.3 in May.

I always forget the AK-AK thing here. I tend to use the abbreviation for all states when I post, so Alaska gets confusing. Someone on another thread suggested that I use AK(polar bears) and AK(elephants). :)

There are certainly more tris in VA than AK(poalr bears), but there are quite a few up there. I was race director for one of the few open water swim tris in the state & a Christmas tri - that one was bike, run, swim just to lower the risk of hypothermia. Studded tires stongly encouraged.

No Disney tris this year. I'm more a sprint distance girl. I WAS going to sk8 the in-line marathon, but it was cancelled. We're going to do this race & DH is running for Mickey again in 2009 + the Panama DCL is sucking up all my vacation days and finances.

Hi. I emailed them too about the ticket vs AP holders (more voices). Don't know yet if I'm committing to it, we have to keep an eye on airfare, :wizard: but DH does seem interested, with little convincing :cool1:

DS11 and I are gonna do it! Of course, he doesn't know this yet...:rolleyes1

Ok, here is the response from WDWSports on the question if there will be a discount option available for those of us who have an AP?

Unfortunately, there is no discounts available on the registration for
the event. The tickets will be valid from September 26th through
October 10, 2008.

Thanks,

Disney Sports

I'm working on trying to convince DH that we should do this event. We just need to find someone to watch a 4 year old and a 16 month old for the weekend.

EE is our absolute favorite ride, so I'm quite intrigued about what they might have in store for us.

Well that stinks. Just what I want - 2 tickets I can't use.
Thanks for sharing the e-mail. I haven't heard boo from them.

I agree, that stinks! It makes me think I won't be doing this event! $100 each is expensive (2 of my kids wanted to do it too) but I can't even use the passes! I thought they's be one day tickets, good for a year at least, like you get when you volunteer at 3 of the events.

BOO HOO!

Well my AP expires on 10/8 so maybe I can convince them to trade the ticket in on my new AP?

I wonder if you sign up as a team I am sure they give you 2 tickets and not just one.

That might work.
Our APs don't expire until November & we aren't going back until Marathon Weekend.

Here is my theory: The "included" one-day, no hopping ticket is essentially what is paying for the "free" racers-only after party. Sort of like the extra ticket needed for Pirate & Princess, etc. parties.

I wonder if you sign up as a team I am sure they give you 2 tickets and not just one.

Yep because it says EACH person that registers receives:

1-day/1-park Theme Park Ticket
Champion® Tech-Shirt
3 month trial subscription to Men's or Women's Health
Admission to an Exclusive After-Hours Party at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park
Commemorative Inaugural Medal for all Finishers

So for me and dh he can get the 3 month Men's Health, and I will get the 3 month Women's health.

Any idea if there is a minimum age I know DD is very interested. She is a huge Yeti fan!

I'm an annual passholder and I want to sign up for this too! But $100 is kind of steep, considering I don't need the tickets.

I'm going to email them and ask for either an annual passholder discount, or for the tickets to have a longer usage window. Also, I wonder if the registrant has to use the ticket, or if I could give the tickets to someone else, like my parents.

I'd like to know that too because if that is the case then I can figure out someway of using my DH's ticket and my ticket and having 2 days there. I normally have AP's but mine is expiring this Sunday but my DH's AP goes till Oct 27.

We're still up in the air on this one. Pricey and we too have AP's but it sounds like so much fun. Problem is we'll be there for ToT so have to see if anything resembling cheap airfares show up.

I know this may not be the right place to ask this, but here goes.

I saw this a few days ago and I can NOT stop thinking about it. I have never raced, dont even like running. And I keep putting that diet off that I know needs to be done. But I am really excited about this, and thinking maybe this could be some major motivation.

So, I want opinions please. Can a person 100 lbs overweight start walking/training now and be able to do this??

Also very interested in age limit. My DD10 wants to do this, also.

Thanks for any input.

Alisha

Alisha- Go for it! You have over 7 months to get ready for it; plenty of time. I walk, not run and if I can work it out I plan to do it just for the fun of it. It really does sound like it could be a blast.
On this board you will find plenty of advice, exercise plans, and loads of support and encouragement.

Too many DIS races - too little time and $$$$

Inaugural event would be exciting except I was disappointed with the 'inaugural' TOT. I don't think the t-shirts were dated and neither were the tech shirts. I think the only thing dated was the medal (???) but not even too sure of that (even thought I should just RUN upstairs and go look).

I was hoping to see RFTT moved to September to kick off the Food Festival and bring some space between TOT in October to catch them both. But two weeks in between is just too tough. And now, there is one in September but a whole new one.

DH (dennyha) and I are doing RFTT this year - we've never done that one yet.

YES YES YES...GO FOR IT! YOU CAN DO IT!

I am a run/walker or rather I'd prefer an interval (walk) runner!
